Speaking of graphics, Killzone 3 was looking pretty damn rough in the framerate department. It's probably a good thing that it's supposed to be a 2011 title.

Artistically and graphically it looks like doodoo. And I have no idea how it will play so that's what I'm basing it on.

And why is the GT.com version censored so damn much even with the age-gate. On TV it was way gorier.

Itagaki's game is not Dead or Alive 5?

damn...

hey finally I have a good camera to record videos, I got tired of recording with Video 8, then going upstairs to digitalize it with the PC...then converting, compressing and then uploading.

Inspired by Grecco's recommendation on Christmas I went for a pocket hd camcorder...he recommended a Flip Mino that was the best by that time...months after I found out that Kodak zi8 is a great little cam that does its job very good.

I tested the cam for a while, a friend recorded me playing drums...so we could test video and sound quality (sadly for the last quarter of the song he had his stupid finger over the mic).

I chose Tap Dancing in a Mineville, the last RBN recommendation from Wired all Wrong. Great song! I almost GS it, Im pretty sure I can do it...and Im sure you already did.

This is not a very serious RB video at all because of the fact that he focus very little on the screen and the chart....but if you want to see me hitting the pads, now it is a good chance =)

Im very happy with the quality results...but the original file still looks a lot better, I will investigate how to make youtube broadcast my videos in a closer quality to the original file.

(it has been so long since I posted a video)
Me playing drums in "Tap Dancing in a Mineville"

I skimmed your post and thought you said you recorded yourself tap dancing, Pedro. I clicked on the video and was disappointed when I realized my error.

now that I've had a chance to truly catch up:

that waifu thing is fucking weird, especially when you do a google image search.

I'm taking GD:RB back tomorrow* (haven't opened it yet) and transferring the credit to RB3 full band pack. I'm also taking all of my plastic guitars (they won't take drums) and applying that as well. Next week will be amazing, I hope.

*I used the pre-order code already so I have the songs available in RB2/3 on the hard drive. :D

Keep the guitars, they will prolly give you $3 for them.....

I just had the "oh shit, it's that song!" revelation with In the Meantime from the RB3 setlist.

Wait, was that song in GH5? I seem to remember it in a GH.

Yeah.

There's a fair amount of GH crossover in the announced list.

If I had to guess 160$ max for the real-tar MAYBE 170 but thats a big maybe.

You. Are. Wrong.

here's a quote from Harmonix's press release concerning the Fender real-tar
http://www.rockband.com/news/rockband3-pro
The Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster uses technology built into the neck and fingerboard of the guitar to track finger positions in real time. The guitar also transmits strum data for the six individual strings

having a neck and fingerboard that tracks finger positions is going to cost at the VERY least $100 extra on top of the original guitar. Also - for the guitar to transmit strum data - well that's another $50 or so.

The real-tar will NOT be less than $250. G U A R A N T E E D.

I think it's excellent marketing for Harmonix to have released all of these press releases / interviews / videos a few days before E3 - where they'll finally show pro-guitar mode. You'll notice none of the videos show the real-tar or the button-tar being played at all. This is something they're saving for E3. I'm hoping a price will be announced for the real-tar at E3.

I've casually played guitar for about 8 years or so and after getting many sores on my fingers I can tell you that holding down vibrating strings is much more difficult than pressing thin buttons (like on the Mad Catz button-tar); so while using the button-tar will help you transition to a real guitar - getting 100% on pro guitar on the REAL-TAR... then you are actually ready to do the real thing. I might get the midi controller though because I have Garageband on my laptop and want to try out a midi guitar - and I also already own a Squier electric guitar so yea... I'll save my $120, thanks.

Start your countdowns til midnight release on 10/31/10...

140 days - 22 hours - 44 minutes - 10 seconds

I can't stop listening to the announced tracks: http://rockbandaide.com/5615/rock-band-3-keyboard-images-songs-video/

The cool thing about a Halloween release is that it falls on a Sunday this year so it'll be just like the Saturday midnight release of RB1 from so many years ago.
Game will not be a Halloween release...that's a placeholder date because their computers needed to have someinng in the date field.

Strangely, I cow,d see gh6 doing a Halloween release, because then you would have midnight sales where people show up in costumes, which would fit with the warriors of rock style.

So going by this, if the half-tar didn't track your hands, it would cost <$50 for 102 fret buttons, six strum strings and a palm-mute pad? Your numbers make no sense.

of course 102 buttons are going to add some cost. And of course it has to wirelessly transmit data to the console. And it has a midi interface built in for use on a computer.

I think $130 for the half-tar is a fair price.

but to say that the full-tar is going to be around $150 is ridiculous. It costs more than $20 to add a touch sensitive fretboard to a $130 Squier electric guitar.

Don't want to be a party pooper but before E3 hits: was there any news of the Xev? I've been asking myself from time to time now, browsing the forum.

Last we heard was a couple of days ago that said he was probably going to pull through, but he still had a ways to go. They had tried to take him off of the respirator, but he took 40 breaths in one minute because his body has been accustomed to very shallow breathing. If he can't "learn to breathe" again, then they might have to take some drastic measures like a tracheotomy. :(

Yeah. Without pro mode the genre will die.
The genre is already in decline due to stagnation. A ham fisted story mode will do nothing to help music games get out of their rut. Pro mode and keyboards, at the very least, provide something new for players.

Holy Geebus, did my desktop computer pick a freaking bad week to die.

Got my new one set up last night, trying to get caught up from Tuesday on. Have to go to a college graduation this morning but hoping to do the 4 player GD achievement with Ronabo and my son later (me on voxbass) and then I hope to get all caught up on the RB3 stuff tonight/tomorrow.

Still several pages behind on skimming, if there's anything new about Xevren in the past couple, can someone please PM me?

Remove Pro mode from your argument completely.

I'll agree on keyboards though. It's a good gimmick for getting people interested again.

Archie said:
Why? Pro mode gives long time players a new challenge and compels them to keep on playing the game.

Did you get a copy of the PR?

Most people struggle with medium guitar, man. Pro Mode is fine for us but it's hardly a big deal commercially.

Hardcore players keep game communities alive. Starcraft is still relevant because a few thousand players are dedicated enough to play at a professional level. Adding a hardcore mode to Rock Band is a good thing, even if only a small subset of pepole use it.

Pro mode means that more people will gravitate towards Rock Band because it provides a new challenge that cannot currently be matched in GH, which in turn means that more attention will be paid to Rock Band. Calling GH irrelevant is hyperbole, but Activision has to at least match RB3's feature set in the future or it will be seen as outdated and a relic of the past.

There is a reason why GHWT went the full band route and tried to one up the original Rock Band.

Yeah, because drums and vocals were proven to be popular. Unlike Pro Mode.

Pro Mode reinvigorates the base but will do nothing to bring in new customers. Which is what should be the point in a dieing genre.
I'm gonna call bullshit on that. A consumer-friendly way to learn guitar, keyboards or drum is sure to leave an impression on the general public.

What percentage of RB/GH players made the jump from medium to hard/expert? making an even harder mode will atract new consumers?

It doesn't have to be harder though.. Pro mode has all four difficulties as well.

The difference this time is that there's an actual real-world payoff when you go from Medium to Hard.

The idea of learning a skill while playing a video game might appeal to new consumers. They will not think of the time spent as wasted.
