I think I'm more pissed that all these e3 interviews are bullshit fluff pieces. Why doesn't anyone ask them real questions instead of following a PR script?

I know if I was in a room with these guys and gals, the following things would be blurted out within seconds of seeing the game:

- What in the fuck is wrong with the calibration?

- Does the realtar require different calibration settings?

- How anal does a player have to be about keeping the realtar tuned?

- If the realtar requires a midi input, does that means it's wired?

- Tell me ten more songs right now.

- How many of the on disc songs have keyboard? Reports have claimed everything from "some" to "most" to "pretty much all". How did that effect your song decisions and is it going to extend into DLC (i.e. are we going to be looking at mostly keyboard heavy songs during the first 1-2 months)?

- Is the vocalist absolutely unable to choose songs in a 5 person band?

- Are any of the old disc songs or recent dlc going to be updated for RB3?

- Are dlc prices going to rise with the inclusion of keyboards and pro modes?

- Have any previously apprehensive artists changed their opinion after seeing the realtar?

- What happened to voxtar?

- Is CAC money global now?

- How do all these drop in/out, on fly difficulty changes, etc. affect achievements?

- Can a gamertag switch instruments easily or do we still have to sign out and back in every time?

Nice list, though I think you need to follow up the bolded question with:

Since the guitar uses MIDI, are you going to allow people to use MIDI guitars and basses with the game (with the knowledge they will not have visual cues)? If not, what is the logic behind not including this feature?

In game, it has no effect, we are purely detecting hand placement and string movement

I suspect that is incorrect

If you were dropping names like Clapton or SRV maybe, but I'm not a technical guitarist kinda guy. Yngwie irritates the shit out of me.
I don't like Yngwie too but Paul Gilbert is awesome and so is Chris Oliva (I don't know why I'm mentioning him but he's awesome too).

I went to E3 yesterday and saw the live show they were doing. It's probably been said a Bowie-like number of times, but the realtar played over an amp, both separately from the in-game stuff (when paused) and along with it as well (during gameplay). It was truly amazing and probably the biggest surprise of the show while I was there. It's an actual substitution for a real electric guitar as best I can tell. Oh and in non-RB news (completely unheard of for this thread), 3DS is actually a more enjoyable 3D experience than I've had in 3D theaters. Paper Mario probably had the most impressive 3D effect. MGS3D and Ridge Racer looked great too. The analog slider worked great for RR. It controlled just as well as an analog stick for me.

Edit: The realtar was confirmed to be wireless according to the HMX guys doing the show.

My "lol guitar wankery" comment was more against Yngwie and his playing fast for the sake of it mentality.

I don't get why it would be. They have technology in the neck that detects finger placement, and they presumably detect if you hit a string. Why would it matter what the sound coming off the strings is?

LOL at the Real-tar not being ready for launch.

How much you wanna bet the Game Informer cover story for next month's issue will have all the new RB3 information?

And who the fuck are Graveyard BBQ?

I'm guessing we'll see 10-20 songs announced in the coming months until October 31st.

There really isn't much else to announce outside of the soundtrack (and other minor details)

I like the song rating feature but I wish they'd let us rate 0-100% or 0-10. 5 lighters is... idk... doesn't give me enough discretion. /i'm just nitpicking.

In the conference, they stated MIDI and fret sensing as separate features. It occurred to me that it certainly could be a situation where the fret-sensing tech was converting the data to MIDI for output (though for a few reasons, that is unlikely) ... however, I postulated: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=21866805&postcount=139027

Once pictures started showing up, it seems all but confirmed: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=21894190&postcount=139208

That appears to be a hex pickup (MIDI). So I'd assume it's MIDI for actual note detection, and the fret-sensing tech in the neck is simply for visual cues?

The new Devo album should be in Rock Band now, with future-compatible keyboard charts ;)

I can honestly see a new Devo song on-disc. There better be more new wave, too, that stuff's all prime for keyboards.

While I appreciate and respect your line of reasoning, there is really no way it could work like that. You would have to retune for any song that isn't in standard E and that's waaaay too ridiculous. I more asked the question because I wondered how annoying hearing the real strings sounded playing along with a RB3 song in a different key.

Oh and hi guys. I found out around 10am that I have a shit ton of work that needs to finished today so I wasn't around earlier. Thanks for sticking up for Miley. :lol

half-tar is wireless

real-tar is not
That's what I think too, but I'm only basing it off that ign article. Supposedly the realtar requires a midi dongle. So, the dongle will have to plug into the console. I'm going out on a limb and saying the guitar won't communicate with the dongle wirelessly.

Dongle dongle dongle

No more so than in real life :p

I am curious about that as well. If you are correct and it is only using the fret-sensing ... that will sound a bit obnoxious.

I will say this however. If it does not in fact use MIDI for note detection, then why have MIDI pickups and MIDI output? And if it's doing fret-sensing->MIDI, how does it differentiate between playing and simply positioning? I'd have to check the MIDI ICD, but I don't recall there being a way to specify something like that.

I'm not sure what's going on, but something seems odd.

Did you ever end up doing anything with the beginner stuff I sent you ages ago?
BTW: Always thought it was dick-ish that you never even threw a quick "Thanks".

"Deal with it."

Thanks

I think that's an added bonus for people who want to use the guitar as a recording tool, just like the keyboard. I'm not certain, but the official RB keyboard has a MIDI out but it doesn't use that to interface with the game; it uses a standard controller connection/is wireless (can anyone confirm?). Regardless, the MIDI out on the keyboard can be used for recording.

For those who haven't played it yet, Let Me Hear You Scream is a blast. Hell, I'm liking the whole Ozzy pack. Crazy Babies has a very cool, creative main riff.

Fuck, I have the urge to get Green Day because of RB3. Game didn't bomb hard enough, should be 30€ by now :lol

Well, I hope it's cheaper when the World Cup's over.
