Rockman Rockman for PSP pics

WTF is this? This graphical style looks more suited for the other portable system.

I do not approve of this game.

Well of the 5 different Rockman series out there, the classic series was always the most childish of'em in terms of design. X series was Rockman's chance to get darker and more serious XD Dash was a return to a little more lighthearted themes. .EXE/Zero was the aerodynamic age for Rockman. IE .EXE transformed the classic robotmasters into really sleek navis.

Some details...

- Apparently it's a semi-remake of Rockman 1
- There's a level editor that allows you to create a level and challenge your friends with them over wifi

Mrbob has a point. Not that the game doesn't look cute--it does, definitely--but it seems like wasted potential when the PSP's capable of so much more on the visual front. I'd rather see Capcom save something like this for the DS, and develop an original Rockman game with 3D characters and 2D gameplay (a la MMX8) for the PSP.

My first impressions looked like this: o_O

Then I realized this will probably rock extremely hardcore considering it's an actual Megaman game with some added style. My guess it that they're using polys that look like 2D sprites, I bet it looks awesome in motion.

This is the first thing that came to mind....I'm all for new styles and somthing sharp looking....But I rather have him look like this...

Bit of insider info for you. Last year, at a major Capcom board meeting in Japan, president Kenzo Tsujimoto was found sitting at the head of the table playing Hot Shots Golf on the PSP. This is a man who, although he's done much for this industry, rarely has time for games anymore. He was absolutely hooked on the game. The meeting started, he held up the PSP and said: This is the future and we must support it.

:lol :lol :lol

I think it looks fine. The screens caused a little bit of a "o.0" moment for me, but then I saw the mega man 1 screens, and I understood.

I'm not sure I see why this is wasted potential. The game has a particular visual style mostly drawn in pastels which certainly gives it a simpler look but its hard to say based on small screenshots whether that translates into a waster of PSP potential. And if its true that it has a level editor where user creations can be shared over wifi, that's a perfect use of "psp potential".

They need move the Rockman Zero series over to the PSP

some of the best Megaman since the NES

Wherever they move it, they need to keep making those. Nevermind it just being some of the best Mega Man gaming since the NES, it's some of the best all-around gaming since the NES.

To be fair, I did specify visual potential. :) From the screenshots, the game looks like a sprite/tile-based platformer with a simple-but-cute artstyle, something that seems like a better fit for the DS hardware than the PSP. Given the PSP's superior poly-pushing capabilities, I feel a Megaman X8-style title with 3D graphics and 2D gameplay would use the hardware to better advantage, but hey, that's just my opinion. :)

.. What the hell did they do to my favorite series ever? ):

Not that I won't be picking this up on day one, because I'm a Mega Man fanatic, but for the love of God Capcom, AN ORIGINAL GAME, PLEASE. Darkstalkers, Breath of Fire 3, MML1, MML2 (soon enough), SFA2, now Mega Man 1. I might be missing one.

At least we have DMC and RE... except they haven't shown them yet. ):

EDIT: It'd be cool if this was a budget title for PSP and they did it for 2-6 as well.

I agree. The game looks pretty good, and the art direction is consistent. Pastels never (on their own) made me turn down a good game, at least not since Wind Waker.

If this is a remake of the first game, back when I liked MegaMan (splooj) AND has a level editor, sign me UP.

Same here.

Juice, is this one of those objectively good games that nobody can hate? =p

Rockman X is being ported too :lol

What? When did they announced an X port for PSP? I don't think they did. (And that would be stupid, considering the X Collection comes out in November.)

I think maybe that's the assumption of what Irregular Hunter X is.. Hopefully it doesn't look as retarded as this.

...I feel like kicking him though--like a football or something.

PS: I wonder how long it'll take before somebody here at GAF snags that as their avatar/icon.

Yeah and if history is anything to go by then that potential-filled game would likely suck. No 3D Side-scrolling Mega Man game has captured the reflex-driven, snappy, and precision-based timing for the controls that has made the series a hit with players who develop the drive to master it. The stuff built for Mega Man X7 and X8 is slipshod, no matter how much better they are from past efforts. And let's not even start to discuss about how they fail to truly capture the style.

Play MM3 or X1 for that matter, and then play X8. The difference is beyond noteworthy. And bah humbig to this pretentious "potential" talk. I'm not meaning to viciously take pot shots at anyone specifically but let's get real for a minute... This is a company that will drill home ten sequels within a matter of years after they create a runaway hit. Personally, I don't care about that so long as the games offer something in the realm of decent interaction.

Also, this is a system building its public success on being a portable movie player, where many individuals are apparently buying it for the sole purpose of watching videos that you CAN'T play on any other media hardware. I also have no qualms with this but let's not waste space defending corporate strategies for maximizing entertainment "potential". On a grander scope, they couldn't give two shits about that. Individual members of individual teams within those companies, on the other hand, are a different story.
