:lol

game looks very wierd (what's up with megaman's head?) pictures are too small to say it looks ugly. I'll wait for some videos or better pictures although... level editor that sounds awesome.

This looks kinda crappy. Only "kinda", because it's Mega Man's sprite that's the sucky part. Everything else looks good. Maybe the sprite looks better in motion, like the Mario model looks better in motion for New Super Mario Bros. But right now, the proportions are unappealing to me, even for SD (which I don't normally mind).

But but...If Capcom put this in the DS it would suddenly become kiddie! :(

If this was on the DS people would be going nuts over it and praising the art style for being unique.

Cute graphics. I'm not all that attracted. Ok.

but.... MEGAMAN THE FIRST REMAKE + LEVEL EDITOR ***this is God damned heaven sent imo.

Where's all the "looks hideous! It's not 1997 anymore" posts?

Oh. it's for PSP.

In that case, it looks "interesting" and "experimental".

This looks worse then Spider-man 2 DS for fuck's sake.

The fuck? You have a reading comprehension problem methinks. :)

...but it doesn't look like a 1997 game at all. It's a full 3D title and it looks much better than Spiderman 2 (good lord, did you actually enjoy that?). RMRM certainly doesn't look amazing, but it is a clean game with sharp models and colors.

wait a minute...MEGA MAN X IS BEING REMADE TOO?!?

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/09/07/news_6132701.html

Capcom's been going back to its roots a lot lately. The storied publisher is redoing the original Resident Evil for the Nintendo DS, readying the retro compilation Capcom Classics Collection for release later this month, and now remaking the first games in its two most popular RockMan series (Mega Man and Mega Man X to American audiences) for the PSP, according to the latest issue of Famitsu.

This isn't the first news of a RockMan RockMan for the PSP, but is the first detailed explanation of the title, which is actually a remake of the original 1987 NES release that started the series. The game features familiar (albeit noticeably cuter) graphics redrawn with 3D polygons, but the gameplay has stayed strictly 2D. RockMan RockMan also has a stage edit mode, where players can create their own missions and trade them with their friends. No release date has been set for the game yet.

The second title, Irregular Hunter X, is a remake of the SNES game Mega Man X from 1993. The game features visuals redrawn in 3D like in RockMan RockMan, but the characters here have a more mature look to them. In addition, the game features arranged stages and new modes. Irregular Hunter X is slated for release in Japan in winter 2005.

Both RockMan RockMan and Irregular Hunter X will be on playable display at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. Visitors will be able to download a demo of RockMan RockMan if they bring their PSP to the show.

IRREGULAR HUNTER X IS A REMAKE?

If that has a level editor in it too, Capcom is finally on PSP for the motha fuckin' win. New Modes? What of these modes? PLZ!

A Mega Man X 1 visual update?

I don't like to complain, but....X1's graphics are already perfect! Why update something that doesn't need updating. Just port it to GBA or something, and I'll be content.

What's the point of re-releasing it if it isn't improved?

Well, Capcom relreleased Street Fighter 2, Final Fight, Mega Man and Bass, and Super Ghouls and Ghosts for GBA with minimal changes.
So you would not prefer an actual upgrade?

So you're jealous Capcom is putting more effort in PSP rereleases than GBA rereleases? ;)

That depends. If the upgrades are good, then yeah.

If they wanted to add a few new levels or bosses, maybe a battle mode or something, that would be nice. But X1's graphics are already perfect. I suppose those 16-bit graphics wouldn't exactly fly on a powerhouse machine like the PSP. Perhaps the original X will be playable(unlockable?) as well?

Not everybody has a system of preference. :p

I don't care what system its released for, so long the game is good.

WTF, am I the only one who thinks this game looks absolutely fucking awesome!? I mean, Mega Man is a half-human, half-robot Astro Boy-clone who shoots fucking laser bubbles out of his arm and fights guys named Wood Man and shit. A 'teh mature' Mega Man art style is much more ridiculous than this, and an anime art style would be crimping on Astro Boy too much. This is perfect in my opinion.

And why does a pastel colored, chibi art style automatically require quotes like 'Why isn't this on the DS'? Aren't these the same people who claim Nintendo systems aren't all kiddy, all the time?

This game looks fucking hot, Capcom is throwing shit to the floor.

Megaman and Bass disagrees with you. :p

Sure, Rockman Rockman looks cute, but the character designs didn't need an overhaul. They were already cute and cartoony to begin with. The characters and enemies in the later games of the series still look fine, even by current standards. If the Rockman I saw in those screens is any indication, the redesigns are hardly an improvement. SD characters are all well and good, but he looks like somebody used a big head code on a Pocket Fighter character. :p About the only other character I can think of who had such a skewed head-to-body ratio was Bonk, and that character was using his hypertrophied cranium to shatter stone and kill his enemies, so at least the designer had an excuse.

If Megahead's appearances were limited to the promotional art for the game, I'd probably be waxing eloquent about how adorable the design is. But to get me excited with news of a new Rockman/Megaman coming for the PSP, then show me that... it's kind of like getting hyped about a new Bond film, only to discover that the new Bond is going to be played by Screech from Saved By The Bell. Nice guy, funny, sure--just not Bond material. Just like Megahead's not Megaman material, IMO.

I can't speak for anyone else here, but the reason I suggested this should've been a DS title didn't have anything to do with the pastel pallette or Rockman's overinflated noggin. It's because despite the fact that the game's supposedly pushing polys around on the PSP, it certainly didn't look it, at least not in the screens I saw. If anything, it looked like a nicely-executed Flash game, with a simple, clean vector art look. To me, that suggested something that could be done on the DS. A game along the lines of MMX8, on the other hand, could probably be done easily on the PSP (2D gameplay, 3D models with Gouraud shading and simple textures), but not nearly so well on the DS. So my feeling was that if Capcom was developing a Megaman game for the PSP, they ought to do something that could only be done on that platform, something that really takes advantage of its capabilities. If it's visuals with a clean 2D look you're after, the DS could do that just as well, and it wouldn't feel like the developers were ignoring the capabilities of the hardware. (Later in a system's life, when the library's grown to a respectable size, I have no qualms whatsoever with devs coasting a little. Early on, though, I like to see them at least try to push the limits of a new platform. When new releases are slow in coming to begin with, the last thing I want is for the games that do show up to underwhelm me.)

Ugh, MegaMan X8 was so good and now we get this.

Perhaps Irregular Hunter X will sport more proportional 3-D graphics.

On that note I am darn happy that they went with 3-D with the X series, since every 2-D effort since X4 was absolutel garbage. MMX8 comes very close to recapturing the golden days of MMX, I have high hopes for MMX9.

Uh, are you nuts?

There were only two 2D games after X4: X5 and X6, and BOTH are unquestionably better than the first 3D X game, X7. X7 is easily the WORST "normal" Mega Man game EVER. Hands down.

X8 was great, but the only 3D thing about it was the graphics. It still played in 2D.

And I don't see how you can say something so stupid like "X8 was so good and now we get this" as if you've played it and know it's bad.

No I'm not nuts. X5 and X6 were the worst X games ever made by a huge margin. X8 is right up there behind X4 and X1. The game series isn't suited to true 3D, but the whole 3D graphics initiative seemed to re-inspire to team to actually try. As bad as X7 was they did try with it, it just sucked and wasn't meant to be.

I'd take serious issue with provlaiming that X8 is ship shod, you're free to your own view.
