Also the shittiness of Rocky V that some neglected:
- Paulie losing Rocky's entire fortune, SOMEHOW
- The fact that Rocky doesn't even do anything the entire movie in terms of training, being a fighter, ANYTHING
- Odd uncharacteristic flashbacks of Mickie being like overly sentimental with Rocky. Also the fact that he is ridiculously too old in this movie (Mickie that is.)
Rocky V is like the most reconned movie of the series for good reason. The son magicaly being 4-5 years older than he is. The fact that Rocky's title belt is suddenly in his basement after he left it at Apollo's grave in IV. The fact that George Washington Duke jumps in on the press conference where Rocky "defended" his title against Drago, when it wasn't even on the line. And that Sly wanted Rocky to die at the end of this one. So luckily, it could have turned out even worse.
Oh and if anyone's ever seen Rocky Balboa (if you're in this thread, you should have), his "condition" where in V he couldn't fight due to medical ban, is completely ignore. Also in the compilation of clips in that movie, V is completely ignored. That should tell you enough about how bad the movie was.
And the sad thing is, I can see where the writers are coming from in this one. Rocky is too "hurt" to fight, so he trains someone else. Completely understandable. Rocky has to go back to his "roots" after being rich off of his fame. Not a bad idea. Except for the fact that getting to this point is ridiculous, and no one watches a Rocky movie for Rocky to not do shit. Hell, even the stret fight was completely anticlimatic. I can see where they came from with the whole Rocky back on his turf what he knows best type of thing, but the ending was comletely anticlimatic. He beat up Tommy Gun, the end, so what? That was it?
Okay, I'm done ranting. I guess the only thing about Rocky V is that a long time later it inspired a new movie that was really good, and the relationship with his son, and why he was still in the old neighborhood area.
