I saw RG is out in Japan when perusing the Japanese 360 threads. Anyone played it? Any impressions? I'm a real fan of Level 5's graphics but I'd like to know more about the game itself.

Thanks, did a search but couldn't find squat. Yes, between Grandia3, KH2, and this I can easily wait a bit for next-gen. I STILL haven't put DQ8 down in over a month; I'm on my second playthrough and have probably put over 100 hours into the game so far.

Anyone who's played it has done nothing but gush about it.

Not really. There's a review out there floating around by me that's pretty harsh on it (although I give it an 8/10 mainly for technical and visual achievements).

There's so much wrong with the game:
-terrible AI on your teammates
-bad battle camera
-crappy platforming controls (though it's hard to fall off so it's not a big deal)
-boring LONG dungeons that are cut & paste jobs (random dungeons in DC2 had more variety)
-boring story/cutscene direction/characters
-shallow battle system
-no georama
-no GOLF
-pokemon meets mushiking minigame instead :(

Honestly the game put me to sleep every minute the more and more I played it and if I wasn't reviewing it I would've shelved it after an hour or two.

In a month with exciting rpgs that have great stories/characters and kickass battle systems (Ryu Ga Gotoku [fighting rpg] & Tales of the Abyss [action rpg]) there's no reason to play boring traditional rpgs.

Dark Cloud 2 was much better in every aspect IMO.

whoa!

i thought dark cloud 2 was really boring, since the weak story and the random dungeons. even the whole minigame stuff didnt please me.

Yeah. This is slower and more boring than DC2 and even more kiddy. At least DC2 had Max, who I felt was a likeable lead (everyone loves a poor kid with a camera), and the georama stuff was neat because it was so different and refreshing from other rpgs (and I personally golfed every dungeon in the entire game because I was the KING OF GOLF. So I looooved the golf game).

*Pulls hair out in frustration*

That damn golf minigame had to be the hardest minigame I've ever played. Some dungeon levels were freaking impossible.

This game wasn't what I expected. I didn't follow it before the release, so I was surprised that the game took an action approach to the battles. The game really couldn't keep my interest for long, so far the battles are really really boring. Uninteresting characters and uninteresting premise. Maybe if you like Star Wars this will appeal to you. Pretty much the same story it seems, main character lives on a desert planet enslaved by a large kingdom, meets a stranger/bounty hunter, drawn into a quest.....

Well, it's a decent game, but I was never hyped for the game, and it's really nothing special imo aside from the technical achievements you can expect from Level 5.

Yeah, it's decent. But there's just so many amazing games out atm, why should anyone waste their time on something decent? ;P
