Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Official Teaser Trailer

Looks more like a bacta tank than anything else. Holograms in SW have never looked like that.
In fact that's the thing that is keeping Snoke's pieces alive (troll theory)
I hope kylo ren takes out snoke and completes his journey to the dark side. Snoke was a just a dumb idea IMO. They tried to emulate ANH and they needed a emperor type character. That's why they made snoke.
I thought about that too, and I can totally see that happening.

That's a damn delicious trailer if you ask me. Only slight worry is that Jyn seems like a pretty similar character to Rey, hope she comes into her own. Other than that, I know it's franchise milking but for this one series I'm totally fine with it. Can't wait!

I thought Monsters was decent and really enjoyed Godzilla, even though the human element is flawed.

That does really worry me: not a single memorable character in Godzilla, really. TFA is build on a strong foundation of likable, relateable characters that you want to hang out with and cheer for. Godzilla had none of that, and Monsters was eh.

I'm not worried about the action/spectacle at all. He'll knock that shit out of the park.

Hayden is a great actor and he had the right "look" for Anakin -- He did what he could with the material. I would never level my many complaints with those movies at the actors, who are all great actors.

Hayden really is great with the right direction. Not best of his generation or anything like that, but he is better than the script and director he got in the prequels.

Yes, he didn't have much to work with for sure, but watch some of his other movies. For example Shattered Glass. The guy is just a bad actor.

Not bad. Nailed the visuals, which I hoped they would. Kinda worried about the writing ("This is a rebellion, I rebel" = bizzarf).

Hype levels modestly amplified.

They are not similar, have faith.

I was gonna give people the benefit of the doubt, but man even people who frequent the Internet really have no idea what is going on here.

It's not their fault. And I know not everyone cares about it as much as we do. But everywhere I go people are confused about what is happening. I tell my family (who really enjoy the Star Wars movies) "hold up, what the hell is this? This doesn't look like Force Awakens" all over the Internet:"Where is Rey? Another Death Star? Etc." we are going to be explaining what this movie is for the next 8 months, then people will go to the theater and still be confused.

It will make a ton of money, but I think the overall reception will be interesting to see. If people are confused and angry I wonder if they will change their strategy.

I'm sure that over the next 6 months, people will understand the pitch and look forward to getting SW spinoffs to pass the time between episodes. This is all fairly new territory, for a film mega-franchise to produce spinoffs alongside the main series.

I don't think he even acts anymore, SW pretty much killed his career. Why would he even want to reprise the role?

Yeah, the "I rebel" line was pretty cheesy, and awkwardly placed against such a dark trailer.

Probably just the way the teaser is cut. The TFA teasers were pretty serious too. I'm sure there's gonna be some humor.

The first TFA teaser was cool but it was hard to go on. The second one was definitely full of life and emotion. I think this looks like it could be good, I'm just saying the teaser itself didn't do anything for me like every single previous trailer for every previous Star Wars movie. I've never felt downright indifferent before; and it's probably just because the teaser was very straightforward, had not one element that had me really that interested in the new protagonist, and a story that I am not yet feeling that much excitement for.

I'm still on board, but the teaser just didn't get me excited at all. I saw some cool stuff there, but we'll see.

Disney to change the title to "A Star Wars Story that is not a sequel to Force Awakens don't worry Episode VIII will be out next year: Rogue One" confirmed.

Looks too serious for me. Where's the fun sense of adventure?

I'm less hyped than I was before.

Star Wars is not a comedy , is a war people die...

as long as they hire someone to do his makeup that has actually seen the original movies

I think McDiarmid himself has criticised the awful makeup in ROTS, George was the only one who didn't seem to care that he looked like a plastic walrus.

Disney really seems to get it. Looks awesome.

Episode VII was a great start and the best start of all the SW film trilogies (best SW film after Episode V and VI for me personally), but I do hope the next films will have more of an own identity. I agree it was a bit too much ANH 1:1 at times. But at the same time, they did all of the classic characters justice and introduced a lot of cool new ones and a new droid worthy of becoming iconic. That is an impressive feat already.

If you have to explain it, just say it's another prequel movie. Potentially with Hayden Christensen as Vader.

Oh he does...and he is still pretty bad. Check out this Nicolas Cage gem if you ever see it on Netflix or something.

I think it's also cuz we sorta know what the story is about. Unless they do some grand reveal, it might be a pretty straightforward plot.

I agree about EoT. I am thinking more Mission Impossible and Jack Reacher. In which he is great at everything in those films.
Those examples prove that "Mary sue" is definitely a thing, regardless of gender.
The term being used by people with a sexist agenda, doesn't invalidate the existence of the concept.

Hell, Ethan Hunt is a very shallow character, and Jack Reacher is outright embarrassing, in how hollow of a power fantasy it is.
I say this as someone who has enjoyed both, mind you.

I also don't think Rey qualify as much of a Mary sue, since she's clearly goofy and flawed in character, similarly to Luke she's more naive than anything, and shows some vulnerability.
and her "abilities" are mostly to move the story forward, and give her something to do.

She's not a very deep character, but it's Star Wars, there are no amazingly deep characters in Star Wars.

EDIT: I should say that i personally always used Mary Sue as the unrealistic "perfection" of someone's character, more than someone's physical abilities, but i guess it's an interchangeable thing.

Visuals looked awesome - but is she a good actress? Can't tell if it was the writing (it was) but she wasn't selling me on some of those lines.

I'm fine with that. Star Wars always has straightforward storytelling. It just doesn't leave me asking questions. The TFA stuff did. I was interested in everything, the new characters, villain, BB8, what it's about, etc. Maybe I just care more for the main dish than the appetizer in this case, but like I said I'm still on board, at worst it'll be a fun little detour while waiting on Episode VIII.

Not retractable, they were installing the dish. This takes place weeks/months before the original film, A New Hope.

Ah, that makes more sense.

It would have to be BEFORE Alderaan was destroyed then - since it was operational by then.

So this movie may have been around the time Leia was traveling around on Captain Antilles' embassador ship, with the two droids?

I wonder if they'll mention her traveling around trying to gain support for the rebellion during this time?

Luke is still on Tatooine working Moisture Vaporators? lol

This is so fucking awesome.

I've found out who is in the capsule

Not to say he won't be great, but this looked menacing too and turned out to be laughable

Wasn't that the point, though? Kylo and Hux were little kids playing at being Vader and Tarkin, they were cosplayers that Snoke had wrapped around his little finger and who got bitchslapped by Rey and the resistance.

Felicity Jones has been nominated for a Best Actress Oscar in the recent past, for The Theory of Everything, so yeah, I'd say she's pretty good.

She was also really great in the heartbreaking Like Crazy.

But I want them to be excited.

It's just a bummer. Me and all my friends went to TFA last year, and we all loved it. I put this trailer in the group chat though:
"This doesn't look like a sequel"

"It's not, they do a spinoff movie in between main releases. This one is about stealing the Death Star plans right before the original movie."

"That's fucking stupid."

Even though they are all going to see it day one. For some reason the first time people hear that, they say it's stupid. Every time!
