What a shame, looks like they completely ditched Katarn.

Oh well, otherwise it looks pretty cool. Great to see how these new directors manage to completely nail the Empire's aesthetic.

The non-film material is all canon unless something in the films contradicts it. None of the future films will be bound to obey what's written in comic books or novelisations, if they want to override it they can.

I thought part of the reason why they did the canon wipe was so that there wasn't this multi-tiered canon. Everything coming out now (post canon wipe) is canon and they aren't planning on overriding it AFAIK.

The AT-AT scene and the shot of the dish being installed on the Death Star were both pretty impressive. But yeah, I'm not seeing anything yet that puts this movie leaps and bounds ahead of TFA yet.

Those are the ones that stood out above the rest, yeah, but in general I'm just not feeling any of it visually. I guess the point was to make something less lighthearted and serious, but even darker movies like Empire can have loads of charm/soul, which I'm not excavating from this yet. I think I just really need to see another trailer.

I'm gonna be pretty bummed if Vader doesn't absolutely wreck shop for every non-ANH character in this film. Like turn live action Vader loose I wanna see some shit.

I would honestly love to have some kind of sequence similar to the factory scene at the end of Terminator 1, where the hero(es) are trying to hide while Vader ominously stalks the fuck out of them. If Vader is used right in this movie it could easily repair a lot of the damage the prequels did.

Also its entirely possible this droid running with Luna and Felicity is Alan Tudyk

Fun fact. They filmed that in Canary Wharf Tube Station.

I have a feeling this is going to be the Halo Reach of the Star Wars saga. Tonally and similarly in narrative anyway. I do feel like we'll see many of these characters die in the prospect of getting these plans to the rebellion. I imagine the last shot of the movie may very well be the plans being beamed onto the Tantive IV or someone from the Tantive IV being given the plans and quickly trying to escape the grasp of the Empire to take those plans to the Empire.

I loved the feel of the trailer, dark, gritty with a hint of hopefulness. I hope there are some genuinely funny moments in this movie like TFA, but probably on a different way to help fit better in this time period. Hopefully we'll get to see more at Celebration and maybe a glimpse into Episode 8 there too.

Um no that isn't how it worked at all. Rebels and the films are pulling certain pieces of old EU back into the fold to make them canon, but any book pre-New Dawn, any game before that, any comic before that, isn't canon.

What? It actually looks like it fits with the original trilogy more than TFA does. TFA did a great job fitting into the Star Wars universe (way better than any of the prequels), but this trailer actually does look like it belongs.

I'm not talking about how well either movie looks compared to the OT but rather how they stand by themselves. The TFA trailers had some really fantastic shots like the Starkiller beam traveling through space in front of Kylo.

I've been saying for a while if they make Vader a slasher film type monster where he just starts cutting down people and is entirely unstoppable I'll be happy. I want some more stuff like the Rebels sequence of him vs. Kanan/Ezra. Dude is a monster basic Rebels aren't gonna stop him.

I'm just saying that they can override it if they want to. They won't be telling Rian Johnson that he has to stick to what someone else wrote in a comic book. If they had a great idea that contradicted something in the non film canon, they could use it and the film would trump everything else.

Well yeah, I mean the post Disney material. The old EU was nuked forever.

I like how the main character of this movie is basically Kylie Katarn. At least they are cribbing the right ideas from the old EU.

This looks like it's going to suck massively. We already know what's going to happen. Only cool thing that could happen is if it somehow ties with the new Star Wars trilogy.

Really disappointed.

Really? Guess I gotta listen to this with actual speakers and not my phone's speakers.

I don't hear it at all. Most of it is the score or sound FX, IMO.

In the TFA trailers, you could deliberately *hear* Vader when they wanted us to. Here, it could go either way, which makes me think it's people hearing things.

There's no need to tease Vader in the first teaser trailer, anyway.

I'm totally down for them squeezing Snoke or other elements in there as long as it feels natural. Where he's been around it would make sense in the new context.

I'm not sold on the time period chosen either, seems like they're doing it JUST to have a new movie with Vader in it. Still, Disney has been on a roll lately and the trailer looks on point so I'm not overly worried.

Looks Ok. Didn't hype me up for the film or anything. Will wait and see if it's good. Who's the director again?

Also, seems like Hollywood has suddenly put a lot of faith in its female leads.

Donnie Yen and Forest really stick out like a sore thumb haha. Should have changed their look a bit

And the line delivery from felicity is mad suspect. But I love the look of this

Man, maybe it's just subjective but I don't see how at all. This definitely looks gritty or something, but I'm not seeing one single shot that comes close to most of the more impressive stuff in Force Awakens, like Rey speeding alongside the Star Destroyer, hell most of the Jakku shots, Han and Kylo on the bridge at the end, the entirety of the lightsaber duel... pretty much nothing.

I mean it looks fine for what it is and I get that there's different types of cinematography and directions you can go in, but no shots really stuck out to me whereas so many shots from the TFA trailers were embedded in my brain pronto. I also thought Godzilla looked super bland apart from the money shots in the trailers of the skydivers, so maybe it's just purely a taste thing.

Correct. TFA is one of the slickest, most gorgeous blockbusters I've ever seen. Everything here also looks pretty nice, but better than TFA? Not yet by any stretch. Also, that sole shot of Donnie Yen hitting the stormtrooper is extremely bland to the point where I'm wondering how they even let it in the trailer. It looks like a shot Lucas would compose. Completely static, mid-frame two shot, boring composition, colors are dull, the action is plodding. Any of these things would be fine if there was something else to pick up the slack, instead it makes for a really dull shot.

Obviously a complete nit-pick, but if we're talking about already looking, visually above TFA, I'm not seeing it, and this shot is a good example of that.

Ewww, no. I'll never know why people insist on making the universe feel smaller by having everything connect.

Yeah, this is like prequel levels bad of massively sucking. Since we already knew what was going to happen anyway.
