Roller Coasters rides can be fun but...

Why are they so uncomfortable to sit and ride in? They should obviously put alot of cushioning in the seats and not have you sit and get banged by metal on every movement. I think roller coasters are too jerky, don't they have the technology to make them move smoothly by now? I dont see whey the tracks have to feel so bumpy and jerky.

This is why I cannot stand wooden roller coasters.

I prefer steel coasters, but wooden coasters are great. Nothing like feeling like you just got the shit beat out of you when you step off of a roller coaster (The Beast and Son of Beast at King's Island are the worst for this).

This thread makes me upset, I haven't been on a rollercoaster in ages. I really should head out to some kind of amusement park or fair or whatever one of these days.

ps. the hardness of the seats are part of the fun lmao as has been mentioned here previously.

Most of the coasters at Cedar Point are extremely comfortable, even the older ones. Then again, it's Cedar Point, the roller coaster Mecca of the world, so perhaps I'm just spoiled.

For those of us with male genitalia, Mantis' bicycle seats aren't too comfortable, and Mean Streak tends to give me a decent back ache, but the rest feel pretty damn comfy to me.

and loose lap bars/shoulder restraints is the other half of the fun

I used to be the type that squeezed the shit out of the bar trying to get that one extra click of security. That's just no fun.

Going to Great Adventure a lot when I was younger I can attest to this, the newer they are the smoother they are. Nitro when it first came out was pretty damn smooth, but its really bumpy now, especially when going around the dips. As for the seats, people ruin them.

How is less safety more fun?>

There are quite a few smooth coasters. In Six Flags Great Adventure, Nitro is a smooth and fast ride that basically scares you by bringing you up really high on a car that feels very open and barely restrained. There are no sharp turns or shaking around, but it's one of the best rides in the park.

Usually depends on the make and model. B&M usually create a typically smooth coaster with comfy restraints. Intimin are pretty good too. Vekoma's are usually awful.

I hate the one where you get hit by a charger and go flying over the fence and then get puked on and no matter how hard you try you can't get back on...

...ah shit.

I have bad experiences with roller coasters. I'm not a thrill seeker so I've never found the appeal. The first ever coaster I've ridden was Ghost Rider at Knott's. Is that thing more intense than the average coaster? I hated riding it. I was cursing the entire way through. Looking back I feel kind of bad because there were probably children. Anyway by the time it was done I was putting my face in between my legs.

Just to prove how much of a loser I am I couldn't even handle Space Mountain. :lol I just hate not being able to see where I'm going. Again my face was buried in my body out of fear.

:(

Oh shit :lol

Smooth roller coasters are better for repeat rides but they definitely don't give you as big an adrenalin rush. Dreamworld in Brisbane / Goldcoast has an old rollercoaster that shakes the shit out of you. It's not a big rollercoaster but it really throws you around. The other rollercoaster they have though feels like you're riding on a cloud. It probly pulls more geforces but because its so smooth you never really notice it.

Love coasters. <3 Cedar Point. But I agree, some of the seats just are not designed to well for some. Even for me being 6'2 215lbs, most just suck comfort wise. But guess it adds to the mystique of the scare.

I love almost all thrill rides but HOLY FUCK.

I would never ride that. It doesn't even look fun.

My friend just came back from Vegas and he said those types of rides are extremly expensive to go on. They charge you both for going to the top of the hotel and for the ride itself. I think he was specificly talking about Circus Circus, but I imagine they all use that trick.

I think most (American) rollercoasters are fine, comfort-wise. At least, the ones in Disney and Universal Florida are. Much better than what I'm used to in Holland. I never go on rollercoasters here, because it's one big crampfest. I have my knees jammed against the seat in front of me and the brace just barely clicks in on the first notch (if it's a over-the-shoulders-brace) or I have to puzzle my knees under the brace so that it can close if it's a lap-brace. Fuck European rollercoasterdesigners who think everyone is 1.80m, I'm 2.04m I want to enjoy a rollercoaster too dammit (I'm not even allowed on one rollercoaster in Six Flags Holland because I'm too tall).

The corkscrew at alton towers (uk) was always bad if you weren't the right hight you got bashed into the headrests. A short friend had earing imprints on the side of her head after a ride

The wooden coaster in Busch Gardens, Florida is terrible for comfort. There seemed to be no place to put your arms, no space for feet, no space at all actually, and as it bumps you everywhere, we both had bruises the next day.

It's the other way round.

The "American coasters" you're talking about are built by a company from Switzerland and preferably designed by a German engineering bureau.

The ones you complain about, are built by a Dutch company, which started out as sort of the European branch of an American company.

By the time you rode it, it was probably over 25 years old. And it was never any good to begin with.

They might be affraid you smash your legs into a tree. Its pretty close sometimes in El Condor.

I don't think the trees are the problem... the chainlinkfences you soar over are what kept me from going "WTF, I'll go anyway.", some people cut that fairly close and they're much smaller than I am.

My current favorite roller coaster is The Hulk at Universal Studios Florida.

The ride itself is very smooth, it's just fast and constantly twisting you all over :P
I like that one a lot too. I don't even like roller coasters much in general, but I've been on that one numerous times.

That's a girl? Midn Bolwn

No it's not. It's two football (the european one) players and the guy getting his head stuck is Dieumerci Mbokani from standard liege. The other guy is Steven Defour, their captain.

the texas giant was probably the most uncomfortable coaster ive been on. its a wooden coaster and from the waiting lines u can even see the supports sway which adds to the experience

The nearest theme park of note is Six Flags Over Georgia, so I've been there a lot over the years. It supposedly has the worst roller coaster in the US. I've ridden it and thought nothing of it. The line's always short, and it's a quick ride. What I can't stand, however, is the Georgia Cyclone. I rode this thing once, and I it completely turned me off to wooden coasters. When the ride was over I had bruises, a splitting headache, and somehow my hand was bleeding. I got all of the fun and excitement of two guys leaping out of the bushes and beating the crap out of me while making loud train noises.

Haven't ridden a wood coaster since. But it's a decent park other than that.
