I like his films and also don't really care for the idea of giving the guy freedom and awards anymore after all this time so let's just call it a day on his catalog and send him to court finally please? This seems to be a nail in the coffin on that happening unfortunately

Roman Polanski Cannot Be Extradited To U.S.; Polish Supreme Court’s Final Ruling - Deadline Hollywood
https://apple.news/Axb9IrWVgNQuWGdP1kFh-qg
Ending a years-long back-and-forth, Poland’s supreme court today upheld an earlier verdict that Roman Polanski cannot be extradited to the U.S. over a 1977 child sex conviction. In May this year, Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro said he would appeal a 2015 Polish court decision which had already rejected a request to return the Oscar-winning director to the States. At the time of that verdict, prosecutors had said they would not challenge the court’s ruling, but Ziobro was a vocal critic of the decree, citing Polanski’s celebrity status.

So is it really too much to ask for a bounty hunter to nab his ass and bring him back somehow?

Or is that too Batmanish to hope for.

Still pathetic and disgusting how much of Hollywood's power players continue to go to bat for this scum just because he's also a talented director

I can sympathize with the victim's sentiments in this, because it would probably be hard to move past something if the guy stays free and he pops up every couple of years in the news with people defending him and refusing to extradite him. Never going to get closure, at least externally.

I think you are reading that the wrong way. Extradition was rejected already in 2015 and Ziobro appealed it. Now it got rejected again by the court. Seems he wanted to make an example of him because he was a celebrity, instead of letting him off.
Yeah, realised it after I read the whole article. My bad.

Polanski is a horrible human being and to hell with anyone who'll defend him cause "he makes gud film". Serve your time you old fuck, and if you end up dying from it, that's your problem.

Any reason for the decision known?

He is a renowned director with ties to influential politicians and actors and celebrities. He is famous and also rich. Think about it.

Just shows that you can drug and rape an underage girl and have celebrities cheer your Oscar wins, governments help hide you from punishment as long as you are rich and famous.

Trying to find any specifics about the decision but there's nothing to hang onto.

Not even the minister of justice could do annul it, damn.

Tyson served jail time though.

I and others would be more forgiving to Polanski if he received any punishment.

Polanski did serve jail time.

I never really know what to make of this case, and I'm not excusing Polanski's behavior, but after what happened to Sharon Tate, his mental state, the victim not wanting to pursue this any longer. It's just a mess.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
We have a really weird fixation on and are quite apologetic towards celebrity rapists...

In some cases, we give them their own cartoon series.

Isn't that just wacky?

Tyson was convicted and served jail time. Polanski ran to another country. Not to defend what Mike did either but its not like he got away scott free.

Ugh, this piece of shit should be spending the rest of his natural life behind bars. Makes me sick that celebrity status makes him above the law....this sick fuck is literally a pedophile and a rapist.

Geez, this is going to drag on until the day he dies. Yes, the judge in the original trial wanted to screw him over and in some way it may understandable he ran, but after the details of that trial surfaced years later he should've just turn himself in. It's not like that all the questionable stuff from the first trial would be swept under the rug.

True. He did his time.

Polanski raped a child, ran away, escaped justice, and has countless actors and directors applaud him as some bastion of artistic merit instead of the child rapist that should actually be his title.

We also welcome them back into sports teams with open arms.

Expand the category to sexual assaulters and we just elected one to be president.

The victim has forgiven him and doesn't want him to be prosecuted anymore.

Aside from "he made some great movies" the other sympathetic defense of Polanski I've seen stems from his wife and unborn child being brutally murdered by Charles Manson's cult. As if that excuses his behavior not only with what happened with that girl but his continuing in getting involved with young teen girls afterwards. The fact that people in Hollywood have him still on a pedestal, even Mia fucking Farrow with what we know about what allegedly happened with Woody Allen is especially disgusting.

That's because there are arguments in the Tyson case that he got railroaded in Indiana and Don King sabotaged his defense by sending him a divorce attorney with no experience in this area and the idea that King wanted Tyson to be out of the way as King continued stealing from him. Tyson would've likely never been convicted if he had competent representation. At the end of the day though, he served time unlike Polanski who was only held for a limited amount of time. That said, Tyson's going to prison anyway was probably an inevitability.

The victim has forgiven him and doesn't want him to be prosecuted anymore.

That's because IIRC she's extremely tired of the circus and what the media has been putting her through for almost 40 years.

from Polanski's wikipedia page:

During a television interview on 10 March 2011, Geimer blamed the media, reporters, the court, and the judge for causing "way more damage to [her] and [her] family than anything Roman Polanski has ever done", and opined that the judge was using her and Polanski for the media exposure.

Polanksi deserves to be held accountable for what he did, but it sounds like Geimer might actually want to be done with it.

He had to pay her a cash settlement, and the entire world knows that Polanksi raped a child. I could imagine a scenario where that was enough for her to be able to move on with her life, only for it to be continuously brought up by the courts and the media for decades.

So what? That means someone who drugged and raped a child should not face punishment? A lot of families of murder victims forgive their killers and don't want them to be prosecuted or in jail anymore but it doesn't work like that. This is a molester who fled the country.

Methinks that might have something to do with the fact that it keeps getting brought up and he's never actually brought to justice. Rather than her being okay with getting raped.

I think the thing that has always bothered me is that the film industry is ok with the rapist Polanski to continue to evade justice, but were against Trump.

Because she wants to move on with her life, so just wants it left in her passed. I reckon I can safely say I am 99% confident she hasn't really forgiven him.

Maybe enough for her. Maybe not enough for people that don't want other children raped, and have an enabled child rapist free and frequently praised and defended.

Yes, he does deserve to be held accountable, but the entire circus that she wants to be done with is also his doing.

This is only the case because Polanski fled before he was sentenced. This isn't on the media and the courts. Nobody but Polanski is responsible that this has dragged on as long as it has.

Honestly, after processing her quote I don't even feel comfortable talking about this anymore.

There's nothing I can do about the courts grinding on, but for once I can be one less person on the internet talking shit.
