Boxing isn't exactly illegitimate either. You don't want a trained boxer punching you in the face. It will suck worse than some drunk douchebag you might brawl with punching you in the face. That's because, you know, the boxer has thousands of hours of practice learning how to best punch you in the face.

I think he means they do it for points where as , true martial arts is made to apply force to a weak point that wont get any stronger , not score take down pts. Rousey did it all the time, one arm vs someones whole body in an arm bar is lights out real world or in professional trainning. He's just talking about the situation when you are talking about the people / atheletes in teh situation. Of course someone who participates in mma is going to be trouble in the ring or outside of it, but they wont need the in ring stuff to drop most people outside the ring there's no benefit of wearing down the legs and taking away movement if you're fighting in the street.

Yes, people were led to believe that Rousey possesses great striking skills, drops boxing champs on a daily basis with body shots, and that she'd be able to become a champion in boxing.

If you are unfortunate enough to get into a brawl or multi versus one fight you are better off with striking (though you're pretty much in trouble anyway). But that's just too obvious.
