For the record, have you read or do you like PKD? I'm predicting non-fans won't like it very much (because I don't think this particular book would make an interesting movie).

The cinematography, humorous situations and dialogue, and dynamic plot in the movie keeps things rolling and always interesting.

I had never even heard of Philip K. Dick until I saw the trailer for this a couple months ago. This was the best movie that's come out so far this year and I really don't think it'll be topped (I don't play into political Oscar film bullshit). Then again, I'm a huge fan of the surreal and drug-enduced movies. I'm very pleased I saw the screening of this yesterday and it's one of the few movies I'll see twice in cinemas, if only to pick up on the some of the long dialogue I missed.

Keanu does a good enough job in this role
Since he's already a ****ing burnout (see Bill and Ted)
, but Downey was a charismatic asshole; he did a damn fine job. Hell, I'm probably gonna pick up the novel and a couple more of Dick's work if I can find it since I'm going on a road trip tomorrow for a few hours.

A Scanner Darkly is just barely a scifi book, with the exception of 2 plot elements. Making the movie look this way always came across as kind of useless. Yeah, it'll be interesting to look at, but it's kinda pointless.

These wacked out losers inhabit their own reality. See things a certain way. We straights could never really feel it. For us, there is no dog doo on the car engine.

While I can't say I'm a huge fan, I have read several of his books and liked what I've read. My brother who's a huge fan buys me one of his novels every Christmas. The movie just didn't do it for me, maybe it was the style combined with the general slowness.

Just came back from watching this movie. It was pretty great but not awesome.

Having never read a Philip K. Dick novel and only having seen 6th Day (barf), I only had expectations of seeing cool visuals guided by a more arthouse Linklater. I did see Waking Life and I couldn't get through half of that, too much nonsensical talking and the animation was nauseating. Scanner Darkly was much better animated although the plot of the story didn't really call for such a style but it was a treat. Downey Jr., Reeves, and Harrelson were great especially the chemistry between Downey Jr.'s and Harrelson's character. So ****ing hilarious. Ryder's performance was sorta annoying, ugh. Anyway, all in all, SD is a fun creepy ride, I enjoyed it.

Btw, the soundtrack is good. Some Radiohead.
