My moms bought me Braveheart on blu-ray and I got around to watching the first half of the movie this morning. The transfer is absolutely IMPECCABLE, it's like seeing the movie again for the very first time. The reason I'm bringing up that film in the AVATAR thread is because of the absolutely MAGNIFICENT score James Horner delivered for that film. My god, the man was firing on all cylinders back then. It is one of the most emotionally stirring scores I have ever heard. I get chills every time I hear the main theme from that film. It's a reminder of just how unmemorable the AVATAR score is by comparison. The war drum beats in Braveheart absolutely SMOKE anything in AVATAR and the main theme is just heart breaking and epic. What the hell happened to James Horner? Nowadays he serves up shit like TROY and AVATAR. The main theme from AVATAR rips TITANIC off heavily .. the first cue is like note for note the same.

I don't think his work on AVATAR is trash it's just highly derivative. The Braveheart days of James Horner are long gone. He just doesn't have it in him anymore, whatever he used to have.

It is pretty damn sad this movie is actually making money. Fake shit = money apparently. Shit like this just continues to push movies into the shitty CG move hell where CG matters more than writing and actual directing matter. Pathetic.

WTF?

I can't recall that part... Does that means that I need to see the movie again?

"Ma' Jake" is a pet name of Neytiri for Jake
. She calls him that a few times in the final act of the movie. Weird if you didn't notice. :P

I don't remember her saying that more than in the aforementioned scene (and I've seen it 4 times). Where I think it sounds more like 'Ma Jake' only because she pronounces the J of 'Jake' as in 'brojol'.

I didn't cry or tear cause I knew she was going to get what he was trying to get.

But it wasn't about that.

It was about the love and desperation. And then "I See You." Really, really great scene.

Nah she says it when she's behind the tree too.

Also, remember that I've seen this movie with subtitles. :P

Ah.

To be honest, I never thought I would like Neytiri going in. That is, I didn't think I would mind her at all, but I couldn't really see myself caring for her as a character. But every rewatch I fall in love with that character a little more. You really feel like every win for her is a little win for the audience.

Eywa has heard you..........EYWA HAS HEARD YOU!!!

Me too but that scene was very poignant just because
it showed she truly loved Jake, despite it being himself in human form, whose race just wiped out her home. There was never any hestitation.
I see you.

The War track on the OST is Awesome sauce.

Especially starting at 6m35s then hitting it out of the park at the 6m58s mark.

Ive said this exact same thing at least 6 times already in this thread :lol From 6:58 to 7:28 is my favorite piece of score in 2009.

Listening to the "War" track... :lol Lucky for Hollywood that Holst's The Planets is public domain. :P

These people just unabashedly rip it off over and over again.

See Zimmer's Gladiator score for the worst offence.

Strange how I don't make the connection between Saldana and Neytiri. Maybe it's because you don't see Saldana as a human in the film.

Prediction: if Saldana gets as big in the next few years as I know she will, somehow Cameron will get her in the movie for real in the sequel. Reverse avataring? :lol

sob sob sob

There are lots of crybabies on forums now a days, some even crying that Avatar has an added benefit of 3D priced tickets and how it should not cross the movies like TF2, Star Wars and the like. :lol

Jake dream sequence.

Just back from viewing #2, with my daughter. Thumbs up from the seven year old.

It was the 11:20 showing (in 3D).

People weren't even having to specify what movie they were seeing. "Four in 3D," or "Two adults, one child in 3D." Everyone knew what they were seeing. :lol

We got there 25 minutes early, which was good because it sold out before starting. If the first showing of the day is sold out, things are looking up for the rest of the weekend.

There was definitely more kids in the mix. They were well behaved, mostly. But it could be a sign that parents who saw it last weekend are coming back with the young ones. That's what I did, at least.

Once again, big applause at the end. People just don't applaud at movies around here, at least not in the five years I've lived here.

I have a lot of thoughts on the movie the second time around, but I'll organize them for another time.

The movie is going to have mad legs. Long, blue, muscular legs.

The issue of 3D having higher ticket sales should not be a factor in people's arguments, since before this film's coming 3D was largely considered as something people wouldn't embrace for the most part. It is to the film's credit that so many theatres were upgrading specifically for it. It deserves every bit of cash that is attributed to it.

And the fact that it's 3D is constricting the number of theaters and screens somewhat. Alvin and the Chipmunks and Sherlock Holmes are both on more screens than Avatar. Not to mention the running time reducing the number of showings; Alvin has two more showings that Avatar at my theater (it's a full hour shorter).

Neytiri is definitely my favorite movie character of the year.
Same. Great character, amazing performance.

I envy the kids. All the predictable storytelling devices and cliches won't be very predictable at all for a kid. Ironically enough, they'll probably think that Dune and other classic movies are cliche if they see them when they're older.

Oh, to be young again...

Some websites are predicting 3.4 multipliers and 80+ million weekend for Avatar. Aw lawd.

I know it's important but I knew she loved him already despite being a human. I already seen her desperation earlier in the movie. I cared and was thinking more about how he was going to get back into the Avatar body to be with her. She carried him after that scene right? That was more meaningful to me.

For the record
when I took my mum to see AVATAR the other day, she started crying when Neytiri was shaking Jake's lifeless body. We all knew she would find the rebreather, but I think its the desperation in trying to understand what she can do to fix him. I definitely didn't feel much for it the first time, but on subsequent watches it hit me and I felt something in that scene.

Haters will come up with all sorts of excuses, best to laugh at them.

Man I took a douche off my ignore list only to see I see that he is still a fucking idiot. I guess I'll just endure the craziness of irfan.

Sitting in the theater now for my 3rd viewing. Avatar has sold out every show so far today (3 screens). The next two were sold out with the final shows except the 1030 were all at low seating (under 75 tickets for those houses....use to run this theater).

Holmes has sold out two shows with low seating in the rest.

Sorry for spelling, on my iPhone.

James Cameron should team up with Nintendo to produce their next console. They both seem to print money with everything they touch. Could you imagine the possibilities?

There's a insulting joke be made here about Nintendo's different philosophy regarding technology.

You know what would be funny as hell? AVATAR finishing its IMAX run as planned in March. Then after it wins a few oscars FOX re-release it in IMAX Dark Knight style.

irfan, its time to let it go. NOBODY CARES. :lol

I'm still only my first watch. The things that messed with me the most emotionally were: 1) running off in the avatar body, 2) the exploration, 3) epic mount, 4) the end. The home tree falling, causalities, and him almost dieing with his mask next to him didn't effect me because I guess I was in a Star Wars A New Hope mode. As in when Luke saw his aunt and uncle killed. He didn't cry. Obi Wan assured him it was out of his hands. It lead to his epic journey and business time. It had to be done just like the chamber being destroyed had to be done to force permanent fusion. Earlier they tried to put that woman in the avatar body and it failed and I knew it was leading to that. Her being was scared is logical. So, her carrying him and him getting his body back was a lot more meaningful and overshadowing the first time. Not saying it wont get to me the second time.

Does the "Confidential Report on the Biological and Social History of
Pandora" book have any info about the human tech or is it totally only Pandora stuff? I just ordered it, but if there's an equivalent human book too, I'd be interested in that as well.

Also, in the matter of talking about eachother, could irfan and jett kindly shut the fuck up? :lol
