I really like HFR, but agree in that I'm not sure it was right for The Hobbit in that it drew a lot of attention to pieces of the sets that couldn't stand up to the scrutiny that HFR allowed. I think it will be a much different story when it comes to experiencing Pandora - where the sets don't actually exist and everything is congruous.

Another thing is that I don't believe PJ approached his filming style any differently when using 48fps, which I think is a mistake. Cameron is very different in that regard and I think the Avatar sequels will be the real eye-opener for the benefits of HFR. I'm hoping he goes 60fps as has been rumored.

The benefits that HFR have on 3D are unquestionable, however.

Cool, I'm certainly game for it again. Yeah, 3D was much improved. I look forward to seeing what Cameron can do with it...and already talking about editorial decisions? Maybe we'll get this one sooner than we thought.

Yeah... it's still gonna be end of 2016 at the absolute earliest. They're hoping to start filming at the end of this year, but it should also be noted that Cameron did SIX MONTHS of filming on both the capture stages and live action shooting for the first film (including having actors come back for re-shoots), where this time he'll be shooting two films at the same time. For comparison, Spielberg - using the same capture process, shot Tintin in just under four weeks.

Ya I don't see this hitting before Christmas 2016... Star Wars 7 will probably be delayed to 2016 also so big special effect blockbusters that year.

Zoe Saldana Confirms 2014 Shoot for Avatar Sequels
think that they're doing a part two and a part three and they're probably going to shoot it at the same time...If we just do two and then wait, I'll probably be 45 or 50 by the time we get to part three. It takes a long time, it's a very hard process."

Previous reports on the sequels had the film targeting a late 2013 production start but Saldana confirmed an early 2014 start date for the filming.

Erm, the only thing she confirmed there was that they would shoot back to back. Which we already knew. Even the article says 'potential' start date.

I don't see a direct quote, but:

Saldana confirmed an early 2014 start date for the filming.

The article they link back to says, "Saldana also confirmed that shooting will begin early next year."

The original source is "tonight's (May 4) edition of The Jonathan Ross Show". I'm trapped at work so I can't watch for a while, but we can confirm that piece by watching the segment.

That "I think" is pretty important. :lol

Should be "Zoey Saldana thinks Avatar shooting starts in early 2014." If it was confirmed she wouldn't be adding that caveat.

Reporting fail.

It's amazing how much news of the Avatar sequels has been completely fabricated by journalists taking people out of context. It seems they want absolutely anything to report about the film - to make something out of it for those precious hits.

The worst of it was probably that whole 'I'm only ever making Avatar movies' bullshit.

This wait for the sequels sucks, but one thing I've learned over the years is to trust Cameron and not rush him.

By the way, thread is closing in on 20k posts slowly :D

No more talk about Koalas. Hypothetical question time.

Let's say Cameron directs three more Avatar films, and the release schedule plays out something like this.

2016 Avatar 2
2017 Avatar 3
2020 Avatar Prequel/whatever it ends up being

At this point we're past 2020 or even further. Does something like Battle Angel still happen, or is that completely out of the question by now? Do you think he would even go back to taking scripts? I assume he could probably get anything he wanted greenlit by a studio, right?

Cameron won't do the Avatar prequel. IF it ever happens, I guarantee you that somebody else will direct it and Cameron will collect bankrolls. He mentioned it as a passing possibility of an interesting story and people ran with it. Dude will be done directing Avatar after 2&3.

Goddamn it, why is it taking so long? It's not like he's writing War and Peace.

Cameron takes his time with films. He wants to make sure the all new effects and editing production timelines are up to snuff, that the underwater mocap is working. He's basically said that he doesn't want a repeat of the first film's production where they were still inventing the tech while they were in the middle of shooting the picture.

Plus he is writing two films, not one. Dude has to deliver not one, but two sequels to the biggest film of all time. I can't imagine that pressure being kind.

On the bright side, the previous sequels Cameron made (Aliens and T2) each came 7 years after the first film. You know how Cameron is with repeating the past.

That would make a lot more sense if a fourth film happened.

Here's to hoping that the sequels will be as fun as the first.

But apparently it takes no time whatsoever to regurgitate the same tired, outdated joke again.

BOOM.

I usually check someone's recent post history (click on their name, pick it from the drop down) to see what might have triggered a ban. Sculli's last post was "Fuck you, I'm leaving."

I think that might have been the one to do it.
If your larger point is simply that he asked to be banned vs. him getting banned as punishment, I guess that's possible. Though, considering his post volume and general activity on GAF, I would kind of be surprised if that one teasing insult drove him from the forum.

I wasn't trying to imply one way or the other, just that the ban would seem tied to that post. It could be the "fuck you" got the ban, could be he requested it after. From the context, I'd guess the latter but I'm really not sure.
