man pandorapedia.com still hasn't fully recovered. they should just lock that shit, i don't understand the point of making it public.

I don't get it either. It was a fake wiki anyways, as it's an official site meant to offer more info. It shouldn't look so shitty or even have the option to edit anything.

Hopefully it comes back soon without the whole wiki bullshit.

Or Cameron should just get the entire 380 page book published :D

it's probably some marketing shits fucking up perfectly fine idea. They're the ones with the info, not any of us. It should have never had this gimmick to it, and they probably even made it look so damn bad just to sell the community wiki angle more.

What exactly was unobtainium? I know it wasn't mentiioned why it was so expensive and what it was used for, but was it every explained in the treatment or one of the earlier script drafts?

Saturday estimates

25.5 Million

Depending on tomorrow, this could be another 70 mil weekend...

My sources say 3D Avatar's projected North American cume after only 17 days in release from 20th Century Fox is already $350.5 million. And its worldwide box office figure should be $1.05 billion coming out of this weekend.
1 Billion in less than 3 weeks...

Heh. I was predicting $70m, and there was a lot of talk about Avatar 1) dipping on Friday and then 2) dipping on Saturday. Neither happened. I think ~$70m is a lock. Previous week #3 record is (was) $45m. Avatar beat that in two days. Just...just...

Yeah, its an official site, so why are they letting people mess with it?

Doesnt make sense.
I think they read about Wikis for 5min and thought "Aww yeah, we gotta get something like that if we're gonna be an online encyclopedia!"

It's ridiculous, LOL.

For the detail whores here, watch Hicks when Vasquez says that line. For him, it's like she ALWAYS drops that overly macho line wherever they go.

Yeah I've always noticed that. Love the comradery of Apone's company.

I just saw the movie for the first time. Greatest movie I have ever seen. Greatest entertainment experience I have ever had. My mind is utterly blown.

The scary thing is that nothing I have ever seen is even remotely close to how good that was. Holy fucking shit.

The only thing I'll say about the plot is that while I knew the outline in advance, and have seen it before, that's also true of 95% of the movies out there. Most movies simply bore me these days. What matters is if the movie tells the story in a way that makes me care, and goes about it in an interesting way. Maybe show me something new along the way.

The film of 'The Lies of Locke Lamora' should mess with numerous heads. Especially those who've not read the book. Heck, I've read it twice and I still expect the film to make me wet my pants.

There's fan-fiction/fanart apparently lying around the internet judging from the Avatar wiki. Navi's sure have their fans.

I vividly remember coming out of the theater opening night just blown the fuck away. It took me six hours - until after 2:00 in the morning - to calm down enough to go to sleep. Just such a surprising, intense experience.

It's one of those feelings I'll always remember. Like how you always hear about "the first time I saw Star Wars" from that generation.

Its crazy. I've never felt this way about a movie before. Its like I don't know how to get back to real life after seeing it. It was so intense.

Anyone who doesn't see it while its in theaters is insane. Fuck, anyone who doesn't watch it multiple times. Just...fantastic.

LETS ROOOOCK!
I've been quoting the "LETS ROOOOOOCK" and "Game Over Man" quote for years while playing online games after I saw Aliens :lol I've been doing it allot in Killing Floor since the Submachine guns are worthless, but it's fun to spray into a pack of zombies. :lol

Aliens is probably the most quotable movie I've ever watched without really getting pinned down like Terminator for a single one. Game Over Man is probably the closest.

I think my favorite line in that chaos where Vasquez and Drake are firing is you hear Vasquez shout to Drake, "On your right, man!" to which Drake screams a psychotic, " KILL IT!!!!"

I just love that Vasquez line for some reason.

I simply didn't knew what to think after my first viewing. I saw the movie late at night. When I arrived home I went directly to sleep, woke up early and went downtown to see it in IMAX 2 times in a row. The headache that I had in my second IMAX viewing :lol

I love stuff like that because you can hear the squad trying to pull together in the midst of the chaos. Vasquez and Drake were working together as a suppression unit, Hicks was trying to rally the stragglers; you could really see and hear the characters Cameron had established start to play out in action.

They're out.

http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/

Went up to an estimated $25.5m.

Last night Friday was estimated at $24m, then later revised to $25m and then again to $25.2m. It's tracking to another $70m weekend.

That's why I called him on his bullshit. "I'll name drop Secret of the Ooze, hurr hurr hurr."

5 minutes into the film, Jake's coming out of hypersleep...the plot hadn't been revealed yet.

But our poster was asleep by minute #6.

Turtles II isn't a cartoon. Heck, it could be argued that those early 90s Henson creatures were the Navi of their day. I'm not comparing the two movies because of effects, though. I'm comparing them because I watched them back to back days, and preferred one over the other.

Obviously I exaggerated saying that I fell asleep in 5 minutes, but I was legitimately bored for most of the movie. And I did fall asleep for a few minutes leading up to the final battle. The plot trodded along a well-worn path, and I need more than this in any drama/epic, regardless of visuals. It's not that my own life is super exciting and movies need to keep up with my awesomeness. Pace has nothing to do with it (I loved Michael Clayton). I just wanted something that felt more unique and ultimately felt like I'd have spent my time better doing my usual routine of high-adrenaline awesomeness aka playing video games.

That's all. Just want to point out that my stated dislike is legitimate. Please continue your stories of enjoyment sans derailment.

Cameron needs to make up a squad of Na'vi hunters in Avatar 2

Have one played by Arnie, one played by Biehn, etc and their age wont even matter anymore :)

And globally, over $1b. I think it's worth revisiting what irfan posted in the box office thread from this week on how long it took the four movies that have crossed $1b WW:

irfan said:
TDK is the slowest to the 1B mark.

This data isnt available widely, so GAF exclusive :P;
POTC-DMC: 10 weeks
ROTK: 10 weeks
Titanic: 11 weeks
Avatar will do it in 17 days.

If we put into consideration that Avatar will be far beyond 1B$ before it starts to drastically slowdown compared to actual revenues and that it will have decent legs because of multiple factors that favors this movie, I say and stand behind the prediction that it will pass Titanic.

Yup. Three weekends and it's barely slowed down a bit. I don't think $1.8b is a stretch when it's taken $1b in 17 days and is only down 9% from its first to its its third weekend.

I found this while reading a few pages back, and I have to dispute. I know the love runs deep with T2 for the both of us.

As for Terminator 2:

I loved the Kyle dream sequence. It really showed how deep of a hole Sarah was in and it was a nice continuation of that love from the first film. Great to see him exactly as he had died.

The scene where they remove the chip from the T800 is great. First because the explanation in theatrical cut for how it might learn is very broad, and secondly because it shows Sarah's rightfully placed mistrust of the Terminator still exists.

The smiling scene is absolutely worth it. Not only is it funny, but it makes the moment where the T800 picks up his minigun and smiles (and John commenting about both the gun and the smile: 'It's definitely you', all the more awesome.

Also you get the T1000 glitching at the end which was just undeniably cool.

I just don't see it as the better cut than the theatrical. While it may be great to see Kyle come back, I prefer how fucked up Sarah looks to be towards the start of T2 - like she may be completely lost for good. Considering how crazy the entire experience of the first film actually is, understandably so. And I'd rather her be alienated from the audience, that for us to sympathize with her that early. Part of the joy watching her character in the movie for me, is seeing how she comes back to belonging to something, reclaiming her role as mother and savior. For me it's just more effective coming from a complete lack of respect, and maybe the possibility that the events of T1 may have made her too far gone crazy, than a sympathetic note that early. I like being a bit scared at how intimidating she is. The one moment of breaking down at Miles house I would argue, is weakened, by showing signs of weakness earlier in the film for her. Being a real bitch up until that point. It's just off in tone for me in general for some reason.

The chip scene, I don't mind, it's likely the best on its own from the extended scenes. My disenchantment is how it integrates into the rest of the film. The learning ability thing, it goes from broad/vague, to the simplest explanation as to why a Terminator might learn. When it's trying to be a more spiritual thing later, through Sarah's eyes, the fact that they are bonding - I'd rather just not think about the logistics of it. It doesn't matter. I think it's stronger leaving that out, and simply letting the audience experience the affects of a Terminator learning, than trying to solve it in a literal sense. It also slows things down, but it is cool.

The smiling scene meanwhile, is out of place for me. An odd spot to choose for a scene like that, since it becomes the real point at which their bonding is observed by Sarah. Which is a very melancholy center to the film. It doesn't really ruin that, just turns down the dial a bit when it's ramping up. It sticks out as a bit too cheese and self aware. I prefer to see Arnold smiling the first time without being aware of it, like at the mini-gun scene.

And the T1000 scene, cool, but it telegraphs his destruction too much. His shattering and subsequent regenerating was just such a terrifying scene. I think it plays stronger as a single note, than to suggest anything else going on in the scene. (i.e. his glitching)

Of course all this is probably swayed in some manner from personal attachment to the theatrical version, but eh...

I saw the 10:40 viewing tonight (had to buy the tickets 5 days in advance for IMAX 3D over the internet), and I was just astounded by how much I liked this movie. Just a totally different and surreal experience.

As we left at 1:30AM once the movie was over, there was already another quite long line waiting and ready to see the next showing. I'd be surprised if it doesn't hit $70mil minimum this weekend.

Also, people putting their arms out in front of them trying to grab the 3D objects are morons. Quit waving your arm like a child!

Maybe they just want to see what an outstretched object looks like against the 3D screen, you sandy whore!

Seriously, though, experimenting is part of the fun of seeing 3D for the first time. I like toying with two pairs of glasses, if you lay them across each other one way the lenses become opaque, but do it another way and they're just as clear as if you were looking through one lens.

The story bored me to tears and I'm no fan of the deus ex machina ending. But fuck me, the visuals are breathtaking. The direction is masterful. Best Picture at the Oscars, I call it... Somewhere, Zemeckis is crying. :lol

I'll be cautious and wait to see where it's at next weekend.

But this time last week, I was thinking it had a very good chance at no. 2 but no way it'll get close to Titanic. Now, it just might be possible.

When will BOM update their WW gross figures to reflect more recent WW numbers?

Arnold Na'vi: "We move. 5 meter spread, no sound."
