That strikes me as greed and profit driven rather than the RDA being on Pandora for some "great humanitarian" effort. So if we assume it is purely profit driven, the humans (RDA) would continue to expand and drain the planet dry, since according to Selfridge, the shareholders just want to see results and profit--he doesn't make the "rules".
As far as the "peaceful negoiations" you speak of, WTF do you think they were doing on Pandora with the scientists? That was the attempt at diplomacy. And it went on long enough for them to build schools and teach generations the English of the "Sky People". When Jake arrives on Pandora, all peaceful options have been exhausted after many years. There will be no peaceful mining agreement. Not when undying greed is the motivator.
Cameron leaves for us what we have collectively left for ourselves due to years of misuse of our home world. The bed we made we have to sleep, or rather "No fate but what we make." WE MADE OUR FATE. Humanity as a collective, doesn't care (even now) how they get their 99 cent hamburgers or gasoline, but only that we get them when want them. I would imagine that in 150 years, no one on Earth would care how we got Unobtainium, only that we get it. Just because Jake "got it"(in regards to respecting the ecosystem on Pandora), most humans probably wouldn't and would have no desire to live on Pandora, by Pandora's rules.
Agreed.
Agree agree agree. I love it when I find lengthy posts that I can agree with so much.
