Levelheadedness = extreme negativity, apparently.

Well, interpreting all those mostly positive reviews in a way that makes the story shit and the movie a failure at living up to the hype may count as negativity. ;DMr. Sam said:Levelheadedness = extreme negativity, apparently.
rhino4evr said:WOW..WTF?
you haven't even seen this yet, and you are already calling it a massive failure?
EDIT..I would say that the majority of the reviews mention that the film DOES live up to the hype. Do some readin before you do your hatin.
Haunted said:Is a review saying "mediocre/run-of-the-mill" considered negative or positive?
It seems like this black and white methodology ignores the (rather large) middle ground? Oh well, whatever.

Re-read my post. I said that "in context of its build up, it will be seen as a failure"
If you want to disagree with me then fine, but don't paraphrase and try to twist and manipulate statements to discredit people and promote your own views.
I made a post and then you took out one word (failure) and took it completely out of context.
EDIT: To the people that disagree with what I said and at least try to back it up and do not twist peoples words, then fine, that's your opinion. I just have a problem with dumb posts like this.
Solo said:Ive seen it go both ways. Hell, a lot of "fresh" reviews seem pretty negative, and vice versa. Its a very flawed system that should never be used as any real sort of metric.

The only reaction we have to the movie so far has been unexpectedly enthusiastic. Mainstream critics are loving it. The enthusiast press is loving it. There's Oscar buzz. We still don't have any kind of box office results in.
Saying it will disappoint relative to this nebulous "context of its build up" is a cop out. If the movie gets near-universal praise, is a box office success, and does well in the awards, is it still a failure "in the context of its build up"? Because so far that's the track it's on. You're establishing this unmeasurable threshold that you can reconcile any realty against. No matter what happens, you can - and likely will - make the same argument.

"Avatar is not the future of storytelling or the reinvention of the wheel. It's pulp, but pulp done with the best toolbox Hollywood can offer and pulp created by someone who knows and loves pulp like very few others."

That's crazy..as it usually sells out quickly..I am assuming next week tickets will sell faster.

You will wear your 3D glasses over your regular ones. It's far from ideal but that's what us speccies have to deal with.Jibril said:Booked for me and my friends. I'm glad I made the decision to have AVATAR be my first 3D experience. We'll be seeing it in Digital 3D. How's that gonna work with glasses by the way?
Us near sighted people (well, I'm not that near sighted, but still). I'm gonna have to wear them over my 3D glasses isn't it?
Zeliard said:Just bought my ticket. There are some nice perks to living in the DC area - some pretty decent availability for stuff like IMAX, as well as easy access to theaters in either DC, Maryland or VA due to the Beltway.
And I have to say, as someone who's never gone to see either an IMAX film or a 3D film (much less both at the same time), I was expecting the ticket to cost more than $15. That's barely above typical 2D, shitty screen prices these days.
I'm excited. Haven't experienced anything 3D since probably Kings Dominion back sometime in the mid-90s, and I've never experienced IMAX at all. I'm fairly certain I picked the perfect fucking movie to pop those dual cherries.
You won't get the full IMAX experience from this movie since none of it was shot on IMAX film, the movie you should have popped that cherry with was The Dark Knight. It had amazing IMAX scenes. But it will look really cool with a screen that big, no doubt. This movie just won't utilize the whole surface of it, that's all.Zeliard said:Just bought my ticket. In my experience with the right movie IMAX is well worth the hefty premium. This seems like the right movie.rhino4evr said:The Imax near me is $17 a ticket plus a $2 fee if you pre order + Tax...
$20 a ticket..is it really worth it?
EDIt..the 3D glasses are usually big enough to fit over your frames..I ve never had a problem.

In the end, AVATAR is not the kick-ass, mind-blowing James Cameron movie I was hoping for, but it's a perfectly serviceable sci-fi adventure that's well worth seeing, despite it's flaws. While I doubt this will catch on like TITANIC, it's still good to have James Cameron back directing movies, and I hope we don't have to wait another twelve years for his next film.
RATING: 7/10
