It's not like Titanic was a bad movie anyway. Sure you knew how it was gonna end, but you can totally see how Avatar was gonna end too, that didn't stop it from being a fantastic film.stuburns said:Well let me rest assure you, it's not, and never was the most expensive movie ever made.
That's just good advice for everyone.
I think it's a great film. He wanted to make the biggest chick flick ever, and he did. I really don't get the hate for Titanic, it's great. If you don't like visually incredible films with love stories, this really shouldn't be a thread for you.hirokazu said:It's not like Titanic was a bad movie anyway. Maybe that depends on the friends. I think there was and is a lot to talk about. The movie's topic itself guarantees that, imo.Meus Renaissance said:I suppose the disappointing thing is that this movie doesn't really offer people topics of discussion or debate, its not something you can talk about with friends over a meal after seeing the film. The Dark Knight offered several weeks worth. It's only eye-candy.

I think there's a good deal of things to discuss. The entire world of Pandora, for example.Meus Renaissance said:I suppose the disappointing thing is that this movie doesn't really offer people topics of discussion or debate, its not something you can talk about with friends over a meal after seeing the film. Boo, you slept through the sequence we worked on.AnkitT said:Saw it last night, but the brightness was too low in 3D and I never got too used to it. Also fell asleep during the last half hour(maybe due to the low brightness). Need to see it again tomorrow, fuck i've never fell asleep in a movie before.

When we wrapped shot production at Weta, all of us were given dog-tags as a present and a 'Thank You' for our hard work from management. They had engraved in them: 'Weta Digital 1.000.000.000.000.000 BYTE CLUB. Original Member, Avatar 2009'. Celebrating the fact that we produced about 1 PetaByte of data during post production. That's 1 Million GigaBytes .
I don't think so.rhino4evr said:so is this the next Star Wars?

My friends and I agree that this is a sign of a new era of film making and possibilities, though. That's quite something in times like this. It's hard to really impress a huge number of people nowadays and Avatar obviously did it.
And you can see why it cost so much during the credits. Good god, Weta had a TON of people working on this. They had more lighting TDs alone on this than most movies have for an entire visual effects crew.BattleMonkey said:Problem is the cost of making the movie, this is just not something your going to see often get made on this level.

It's both, you really can't put one over the other. Lasseter put it best in that Pixar documentary a while back, from when Pixar just started - art challenges technology, technology inspires the art. It goes back and forth endlessly.Meus Renaissance said:Would you say you're industry is more technical than creative or more creative than technical?
P.S. You've just become the most respectable person on GAF in my eyes due to your workplace.
Oh yeah, that'd be interesting, I'm guessing there's at least a 4k version somewhere despite what they seem to be sending to theatres.jett said:XiaNaphryz! Inquiring minds would like to know at what resolution do you guys render the CG.Thanks.

:lol Cameron thought up the whole of Pandora, he chose that the whole of the planet was monogamous.quadriplegicjon said:oh please. that other reviewer guy said the same shit, but it doesn't even work in this context since he wasn't technically white when he was with the navi. and the movie pushed pretty hard to show that the humans were the foreigners (aliens).. not the other way around.
also every relationship on the planet was monogamous... between the navi and all the animals.. it's not a stretch to have the same thing between each other.
as long as it beats i am Legend is all good.irfan said:Ok folks BO figures are in;

I'm not sure if we're allowed to say, since there's no info about it anywhere else apparently. So I'm playing it safe and won't say until I know otherwise.jett said:XiaNaphryz! Inquiring minds would like to know at what resolution do you guys render the CG.Thanks.

I dunno, that storm on the east side of the country is supposed to be pretty bad.gdt5016 said:Those BO numbers/estimates need their own thread.
That will also double as the Crow Eating Extravaganza.
Now it's a mystery. ILM sent out some 'hi-res' images of Avatar at a little over 2K. It's interesting HDMI 1.4 (and in turn next years BluRay players) will support QuadHD (about 4K) for 2D only, 3D will still be 1080p. And Cameron said the 2D BluRay will be out before the 3D version, which presumably means before we get QuadHD BluRay's too.jett said:booo
I do know that what was sent to digital theaters was a 2K digital copy. Barely above blu-ray quality. Meh. Can you at least tell me if that is as good as it gets?
