Incredible stuff...easily one of the best soundtracks ever!
Yup. Horner gets and deserves a lot of crap for recycling, but his Titanic score is one of the greats. And I think it has a lot to do with the films success. Titanic tears me up pretty good every time, and that stuff is a big part of the reason. (That, and the crushingly beautiful photography.)

I thought it was OK. I really wish Enya had accepted and decided to score film but I think Horner did a good job emulating that spirit.

On a side note, the OST version of "My heart will go on" still gives me chills.

Fuck that guitar, male backing vocals trash on the radio edit.

Titanic...It probably is my second favorite after Terminator. Maybe first. It hits all the right cheesy chords for me. It plays me easier than a pianist plays a piano.

The last scene was/is/ and will forever be too much

Yes...I'm crying now =[

It doesn't matter if he reuses music, or the same beats. As long as it works. It doesn't matter at all.

And yes, Titanic is still probably my most waited upon BluRay.

You are on the internets, typing on a forum while listening to The Titanic soundtrack and crying. Seriously... I mean come on.

Avatar 2 will be shot in 360 degrees and Cameron will wait until more theaters support 360.

Avatar 3 will be shot in 360 degress in 3D
on the moon
and Cameron will wait until more theaters support 3D 360.

:lol

Titanic's soundtrack kind of hits me because it reminds me of my grandmother, but other than that the movie doesn't do much for me.

Yeah man.

This is quite possibly one best endings I've ever seen.

I still get goosebumps when the doors open and Jack is watching the clock, waiting.

Sheer perfection.
Every time I've seen Titanic, I get weepy when the camera pans over the photographs of Rose, and pauses on her riding the horse (right in the surf). By the time of the final pan to the restored dome over the grand staircase, I'm a blubbering mess. Every. Single. Time.

It's moments of poetry like that throughout the film that elevate it to where it is with me. It's got warts, but mother of god it's just a great story, beautifully told. The movie is an emotional roller coaster like no other.

Don't get me started on how Cameron uses that dome through the film. One of my favorite cinematic touches ever.

Oh no, I rewatched the ending to the movie...Probably doesn't make it better. It's not just the soundtrack, Soundtrack has no effect on it's own.

2nd. I completely admit to being a bitch with this shit and horror movies. :lol Thrown in a decent sappy movie and I'm done for. :lol

Going through the life she lived for both her, and Jack. Follow it up with going in the same meeting place when they went to dinner with. The grand hallway on Titanic...with everyone who passed away on the ship cheering them on.

It's just too much. Other movies I would probably critique it. I can't do that with Titanic or sappy movies.

You guys are getting it all wrong. That isn't the saddest part at all. The saddest part is when you see Mr. Andrews for the last time. Because everybody is thinking he's blaming himself for the death of 1100 people by refusing to clutter his masterpiece with cumbersome and ugly life boats. But really, he's just built one of the most beautiful pieces of engineering mankind has seen and its like G-d just came along and kicked his sandcastle over. I know I cry when I think about all that beautiful architecture going to waste.

For me, the best part of Titanic was seeing all the people who were actually there. Before the movie, I'd read up on all sorts of disasters, and the sinking of the Titanic was the most fascinating for me (just ahead of Mt. St. Helens). I'd also seen two of the previous Titanic movies leading up to Cameron's. Whenever it was Jack and Rose, yeah, it was neat to see the story of the ship through them, but it was more interesting for me as a retelling of the disaster itself and not the love story.

Wut are you guys talking about? I love the soundtrack in this movie.
Sure, most of the songs are re-used, but at least he re-used good ones.

I've been listening to the soundtrack quite often and it's quite pleasing.

U guys am picky

I have to admit, Titanic doesn't mean much to me.

I've only seen it once or twice and that was a loooooong time ago.

Maybe I should check it out again

Could not agree with you more. Just watching that at work has made me cry. I guess Cameron is happy with himself for having the two highest grossing films of all time.

It's a solid soundtrack, however the recycling is terrible.

I literally cringed during my first watch after listening the exact same song used for the
fall of the mother tree
in a ridiculously much less memorable event:
when Neytiri's dragon dies
.

That was fatal. I can't believe he dared to recycle such an important and meaningful song twice.

Maybe I'm picky, but I'm a composer.

Perhaps you have a point, but I wouldn't say it is less of an important event... in itself perhaps it is but at that moment everything is falling apart
everyone is dying and the na'vi are getting crushed
again, just before Eywa responds. And when Eywa responds Horner commits a much bigger crime lol. I didn't even notice at first iirc, but I read Sculli's complain about the scene and on my 3 subsequent viewings I cringed at that point.

So I saw Avatar 3d two weeks ago, my first 3d experience, i must say I was not impressed with 3d. I saw it in a theater featuring Real D 3d and just as i thought originally, wearing the glasses over my prescription glasses was very annoying.
We did not get very good seats so different parts of the screen looked different than the parts we were seated optimally for. Some of the effects were cool where stuff floated out of the screen but it didnt really seem to add much to the movie.

Thought the movie was very good though.

Well, we have a new king:

Domestic: $554,981,691 29.9%
+ Foreign: $1,303,885,198 70.1%

= Worldwide: $1,858,866,889
The king is dead. Long live the (same) king. :D

As I said in the box office thread, Monday's international take was down 0.9% from last week.

Although my feelings for the movie remain the same (wasn't blown away like most gaffers), mad props to Cameron for the bank.

For having a vision, audacity and technical/artistic skills to make this movie. Totally deserving of the box office receipts.

It is official now worldwide, congrats to Avatar. I really really enjoyed Avatar but I still won't put it above some of Cameron's other movies and I feel Titanic was better. Even though this movie is making crazy money I still feel it has a way to go to match the fever that went along with Titanic.

Having Cameron break his own record is unbelievable, the man deserves huge amounts of credit.

Finally got around to seeing it and was quite impressed. I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was my first time seeing anything like this before. I heard it was almost 3 hours long, but it went by in a snap and I never found my mind wandering. I hope to see it again next week.

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/01/26/is-avatar-2-gearing-up-for-pre-production/

As James Cameron’s Avatar overtakes Titanic to become the biggest box office success of all time, winning Golden Globes and getting ready for a possible Oscar sweep, rumor has it that pre-production might be gearing up on a sequel to his 3D sci-fi epic. I have received word, from a source who has provided /Film with some good tips in the past, that technical crew members have already begun to be hired for Avatar 2.

According to the source, some behind the scenes technical crew have signed on for three to five year contracts, just in case it runs long. While I’m unable to confirm this report with a second source, this bit shouldn’t come as a huge surprise as Cameron has always said that he hopes to create an Avatar trilogy. And with the box office receipts and awards, you can be sure that Fox is pushing for a sequel. But will this really be Cameron’s next film?

But he keeps talking about it! >:(
He even said that they now have a good script for it in some Dec interview.

Maybe but when asked about what could he do next he only mentions Avatar 2 and The Dive. I believe he said he has had a good script for years, but he would have to check it out again. I think he has lost interest in the project. Even if he wanted to, I doubt he'll be able to squirm away from Avatar 2. I doubt there's anyone on the planet more in love with the world he has created than himself. :P

Yes, he has said that theres gonna be more Avatar in the future and yes, he did say that "The Dive" would most likely be his next film. But his reasoning for wanting to do "The Dive" next instead of Battle Angel was because, according to him, he doesn't want to do two 4 year movies back-to-back (making me assume that it aint gonna be a huge timesink for him). As for Avatar 2 . . . IDK what to say there. :/

Well fuck... I just saw this on twitter from a US Navy Sailor in Bahrain.

Celebrities from Avatar will be visiting base tomorrow (thursday) at 1630, pm me if you're interested in seeing them #bahrain

I'm stuck at work until Friday. :(

Saw it again at Imax Melbourne today. First time was RealD at a local cinema. I couldn't really notice a difference to be honest, besides the screen size and the amazing sound. The 3D seemed pretty similar.

There will be an Avatar 2...Zoe Saldana has already signed on, but Sam Worthington declined due to some unmentioned issues. But James Cameron already found a replacement actor:

...Nicolas Cage (I'm sorry, had to :D )

Directors often hint about sequels that never come about, but the fact that "Avatar" star Sam Worthington has already signed on to reprise his role as Jake Sully suggests the plans look pretty solid.
