I'm watching the picture in picture stuff on disc three right now, hadn't got around to it yet. One thing I think is interesting is it seems a lot of variable framerate things were done in post, he didn't shot things he knew would be slowed down at higher framerates. Never thought about it, but there is a lot more flexibility in post using this system than I thought.

Not sure where I read this, I think it's in the Pandorapedia, but the dense atmosphere and high magnetic fields on Pandora render energy weapons ineffective.
Read that somewhere too. I think it was in the official field guide that was out in stores.

Still haven't watched the BD yet, but I did sit down this morning and read The Making Of Avatar cover to cover. Holy shit what an absolutely incredible trove of knowledge it is. I cannot recommend the book highly enough if you are even the slightest bit interested in the technical aspects of the movie. Amazingly well put together and very high quality, too. Worth every penny.

When Panasonic announced it was including copies of Avatar in 3D with its 3DTVs and Blu-ray players, it simply seemed like a great marketing move. Now it's looking like more of a coup, with Panasonic UK confirming that the company's bundle deal runs until February of 2012. That deal is said to be exclusive, likely meaning that will be the only 3D version of Avatar pressed to disc until it runs out, leaving you with two somewhat less than desirable choices for getting a copy: spring for Panasonic hardware or pay a hefty premium on eBay. How hefty? Copies of the 3D Blu-ray version look to be going for $150 and up, and we're guessing things won't be getting much better in the near future.

That sucks. Just a quick question though, I'm likely buying a 3D Panasonic plasma in the next year so will I be able to get the 3D Avatar blu-ray or do I have to buy one of their 3D blu-ray players too? I have a PS3 so I really, really don't want to buy another player.

Apparently some assbackwards setting(which I can't find) on my router is preventing me from accessing the BD-Live stuff(getting a network error when I try).

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Most of the deals going now basically give you the player, glasses, and movie free with the TV after rebates or coupons, etc.

Glad you liked it. I was floored, both in the technical detail and in the quality of the presentation. Superb book that compliments the film well.

Something I recently noticed.

In one of the Deleted Scenes, you can see both Valkyrie Shuttles during the final battle.

If you haven't read the 07 script, originally both shuttles were used in the final battle, with one of them actually dropping its daisy cutters into the forest and scorching it.

I have a feeling that the entire scripted final battle was actually shot and done up to template level. If so, that just confirms theres still a shit load of deleted content we haven't seen, nor are we likely ever to see...

I don't know what date I went to see it, it was the first viewing at the IMAX here. I did watch the film on August 21st, a year after I went to the little preview thing.

I saw it on the 19th! Haven't seen the movie again after it exited most theaters during its original run (but I saw it 5 times). Dying to see it again, especially with all the new stuff.

You'll definitely enjoy the Extended Cut and all the deleted scenes :D

God I love that scene.

The way she says it, it's perfect.
Have you gotten the collector's edition yet? I have a feeling you'd love the Festival deleted scene :lol

Just picked this up on Blu-Ray as my first BD purchase. Got the double disc (BD/DVD) combo off an Amazon partner for 11.30. Such a fun film.

Oh.

I actually really hope we see snow in the 2nd movie, or something to that effect. I mean, it would be a too "empire" but whatever, Snow locations should be a requisite for any major sci-fi/fantasy franchise imo :lol

Snow covered mountains at night on Pandora? Surely that would look pretty spectacular

The ONE thing I hope we see are the Medusas. Hopefully they haven't been permanently scrapped, only to survive in the pandorapedia

Technically a day and a half late for me in Australia. :D

I thought right in the mdidle would be nice middle ground.

NOW its officially Happy Avatar Day! About 8 hours from now it will have been a year since I saw it on opening day.

I've probably seen it more than that. I saw it four or five times in the cinema, and must have seen it six or seven times since.
I think I got through one more viewing for the 'extended release' cinema run. I'm not sure I can watch it in full again for a year or so now..

I saw the midnight launch and then twice more day 1. I went in with no hype or need to see it, but friends talked me into it. I loved all of Camerons other films but had no hype for this one. After it ended I just sat there in awe. I've probably seen this in theaters more than everyone here, buy would love to see it again re-released sometime.

Here's to waiting 4 more years for part 2!

Worthington talks about what he knows about Cameron's plans.

"I talk to [Cameron] all the time," Worthington said. "I talked to him last week. I think at the moment he's still doing the ['Avatar'] bible, the book, and I think the book will then inspire where he wants to take it," the "Clash of the Titans" star explained. "He's got great ideas; what he told me about, where he wants to set it, things he wants to explore. We'll probably talk next year, and then he can fill us in on where, personally, he wants to take it, where emotionally he wants to take it."

Regarding the sequel's underwater setting, Worthington said only some of the action will take place in the water.

"[Cameron] is going to explore that [underwater] world," he said. "It won't fully take place underwater but he's definitely going to explore — same as the mountains, he can explore more, outer space [as well] — it's up to him," Worthington added. "He created the world."

And finally, we asked Worthington about the future of Jake Sully, specifically whether audiences will ever see his human form onscreen again. Worthington said he had "no idea."

I wonder when Cameron will be done with that book/bible...
