Gut feeling someone died or someone has health complications
Thought of this soon as I saw the thread. Pretty interesting, all the procedures and protocols. The Guardian ran an interesting article recently detailing what happens when the Queen dies: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/mar/16/what-happens-when-queen-elizabeth-dies-london-bridge

Is this legit? If it was you'd think every single British news site would be reporting it as breaking news yet the ones I've checked haven't even got this on the front page.
Need BritGaf to chime in here asap. Particularly London Gaf
Except the royal standard never gets lowered, even if the queen dies. That's what caused all that fuss when they refused to lower it when Diana died.
I thought they did lowered the royal standard when king George VI died.
Don't the British media have some sort of agreement about not reporting these things? Or is that just on TV.

Unlike the Union flag, the Royal Standard is never flown at half mast, even after the death of a monarch, as there is always a Sovereign on the throne.
Really though, wouldn't we be seeing video of cars of staff pulling into Buckingham Palace if there were something going on?
I know it's 4:45am but we would see *something* right?

That'd be pretty hilariously ironic.Queen and Philip are probably okay. I'm thinking it's Prince Chuck

Screens will glow. There will be tweets. At the BBC, the radio alert transmission system (Rats), will be activated a cold war-era alarm designed to withstand an attack on the nations infrastructure. Rats, which is also sometimes referred to as royal about to snuff it, is a near mythical part of the intricate architecture of ritual and rehearsals for the death of major royal personalities that the BBC has maintained since the 1930s.
people are saying on twitter that it is Phillip
but that just seems like speculation then anything else
That'd be pretty hilariously ironic.
He is 95.

Prince Philip earlier today, looking to be in good spirits: https://twitter.com/BBCPeterHunt/status/859774598828752896
They lower the Union Flag, but the standard is never lowered as it's supposed to represent the monarchy and that hasn't died since the Civil War.
Not 100% sure if it's ever been lowered though, just going by sources on the net.
Here ya go: https://www.royal.uk/royal-standard

The TV channels won't report it until given the green light, for now it's the newspapers.
Embargoed?
Nobody is going to risk reporting the death of a royal until it's confirmed, I don't think.
Ah ok. I'm from England and I didn't even know that. Pretty bad of me tbh lul.

Its like 4:30am there lol.
But no one's really awake there. That's probably why this is showing up on social and news sites in Australia and New Zealand, and on Twitter. Which is basically a game of telephone.
Also, is a royal death really the kind of thing to leak? Somehow I don't expect that of the court. Maybe a senior courtier is leaving and that requires an all-staff announcement. It's a little knee-jerk to assume someone passed, though let's see how well this post holds up in the next six hours!
It's nearly 5 am but I'll just head over and have a word with the Queen over a cuppa. I'll update when I know whats up.
Update: Oh dear I've been arrested. Looks like Australia for me, chums.
It's 440am in London.
Well I figured SOMEONE must have gone and had a look to see if the flags were down. Possibly a drunk someone, possible a really curious night owl.

It's pretty universal I think.
I believe the media all start making living obituaries of people when they hit 70 just in case something happens to someone famous and/or important.
I don't know wtf this guy is but that's the only thing I see. Seems strange since Philip was out and about looking chipper and unveiling plaques earlier
