Living proof that animated Marvel still has ways to go, though their very best (Spectacular Spider-Man) comes close.

Anyway I managed to snag them in iTunes (though for some odd reason S3 and S4 (JLU S1 and S2) are considered a single season and S5 (JLU S3) is considered S4 (JLU S2)). And it's a really good show that follows a really well written show.

Of course, it still has some problems. For example, there's a bit of a Bat-worship problem going on in JL S1 and sometimes even in later episodes. I guess I can't fault them since they did start off with Batman TAS and Kevin Conroy seems to be always available, but it just gets distracting sometimes. And I also like how they poke fun at Bat-worship (like how Bats is all this "insensitive, get over it!" guy in the episode Twilight what with trying to contradict Supes, only to proven wrong ultimately in the end). Still, that episode Doomsday Sanction had him arguing "not to use the Phantom Zone because we have too much power nooo!" but somehow he can't think of a better plan on Doomsday.

Speaking of Doomsday, it's one of the few problems I had - it seemed Cadmus was made during the Justice Lords event yet apparently Doomsday was made prior? It's some weak stuff but otherwise really good show.

Personally I like season 2 more because it allowed more character interaction, followed by season 4 (JLU season 2) which is essentially JLU but with the writers knowing what to do.

Probably one of the best American cartoon series ever made.

And I doubt DC or Marvel will ever make anything again that equals it.

Just a shame that it ended. It had so much still to give. Very much my introduction to the wider gallery of leaguers. Jon is the best lantern. I wish that "The Batman" hadn't made most of Gothams rogues unavailable for the back end of Unlimited.

The Cadmus Arc is my favorite bit of television ever. Starcrossed and everything after is god tier.

My boyfriend lost a bet and now he has to watch all of JL/JLU but hates most superheroes and the idea of DC characters hanging out together. He'll learn to like it, right?

If he doesn't, leave him.

loved the show but this version had very weak super man. cant breath in space or water gets knocked down by explosion and most annoying GL .
I think they had the perfect batman in JL where they some how showed how batman even being a simple human could help. specially loved the ep where manhunters says to batman we knw you dont have super power but you dnt have to prove anything. there was a badass scene where he interrogates the Aquaman assasin.
loved the chemistry between batman and wonder woman which they abruptly stoped.wish they went further with it.

Love this show, been rewatching it since it showed up on Netflix. I'm actually kind of glad that they couldn't use Batman villains after a while, it let me learn about other DC villains I never knew about.

And the show knew how to make an epic moment.

I think they fix it pretty well.. how often did him not being able to breath in space come into the plot though?

What a great show. The only terrible thing I remember about that show was the terribad CG medical robot that Supergirl was dreaming about in the Galatea episode.

This show is weird to me because it seems like they try to make all the characters roughly equal in power. So Superman, Green Lantern and MMH are nerfed and get their asses kicked frequently. Meanwhile Hawkgirl and some enemies seem way overpowered (Aquaman).

I don't know all that much about comic book history, but it just feels wrong.

I find it entertaining that DC hasn't tried what Marvel has done in films (though they may be getting there), and Marvel hasn't tried what DC did with its Animated Universe (and don't seem to be interested at all). Ironically, Marvel's films and the DCAU are somewhat similar in the way they built up their respective universes. Part of the DCAU allure is the interconnection of B:TAS, S:TAS, Batman Beyond, JL, JLU, and Young Justice.

Marvel had a great Avengers cartoon going with bags of potential, then they cancelled it...

I'm more of a Marvel fan, but DCAU is miles ahead of most Marvel cartoons. Wish they'd make a Batman Beyond movie.

Well Marvel's 90s cartoons were connected
Spider-man/X-men

And believe the WB's Iron Man/Hulk/Fantastic Four series

Season 1 was pretty rough, their "everything's a 2-parter" formula made for some really drawn-out episodes with big patches of blandness until they found their rhythm. I'd advise newcomers to just jump on at season 2 and then continue onto Unlimited, which is where it really caught fire (and where they coincidentally dropped that 2-parter format).

Young Justice isn't really part of that same tree.

Justice League was the shit. I'm rewatching it on Netflix again and it's just as great as I remember. I do agree that they made Superman weaker than I expected. It's just a shame Batman Beyond was cancelled in order to work on Justice League.

I recently watched Batman Beyond recently on Netflix and that was also great. Didn't watch it when I was a kid but it was still great.

All I want is more animated series from Marvel and DC. I want another X-Men (didn't care for Wolverine and the X-Men).

Amazing show, though I did enjoy Justice League a bit more than unlimited. Things went to shit when GL got that hideous facial hair, kind of like the anti-Riker. Did love his relationship with Hawkgirl though, also Bruce and Diana was nicely done.

That said, a few awesome moments from Unlimited that come to mind;
1. That hilarious Booster Gold episode.
2. Batman dodging Omega Beams.
3. Flash in Luthor's body refusing to brush his teeth because he's evil.

There are some plot points in 1 that comes up in later episodes.

Is GL:TAS officially connected as well or is it separate?

I like the Deadpool turn in that, but nah. It's Avengers EMH, easily.

If the animation and choreography was better I would agree with you. I had a lot of fun with it but was a little annoyed knowing how much better those huge set pieces could have been with better animation.

Marvel had a great Avengers cartoon going with bags of potential, then they cancelled it...

I still haven't watched the second season of EMH, but the first season was quite good. Unfortunately it never branched out the way the DCAU did. It would have been nice to have interconnected solo shows for Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, etc.

In what way were Spider-Man and X-Men connected, other than being made by the same production company? I don't remember any crossovers, and if there was one, it was surely very small, but it's been a long time since I watched those shows.

Regarding the 90s Iron Man/Hulk/Fantastic Four, those just weren't very good shows for the most part.

Just watched the entire Justice League series on Netflix over the past few weeks. Really enjoyed it as well, although as others have said, I hated how often Superman got his ass kicked. I lost count of the number of times I just shook my head as he got knocked around my someone who shouldn't have been able to go toe-to-toe with him. Obviously they didn't want him too overpowered, but it was ridiculous how many times he was tossed about.

Watched all of JL for the last week or so, moving to Unlimited next.

Every hero is way underpowered, and it sucks they don't resolve everything in JLU. But it's nice to watch and have on in the background.

There were a few crossovers

I know that there was an arc in Spider-man where he was mutating and sought out the X-men/Professor X to help him, but since wasn't a true mutant rejected him

I also believe Wolverine and some other X-men had a guest spot in later episodes.

Where that weird gif of Spidey/Wolverine rolling around while goblin watches come from

Probably one of the best animated series of all times, watched it for the first time last year and fell in love with it. Justice League starts off really really slow and pretty boring, but by the time Starcrossed and Justice League Unlimited's Cadmus arc comes around the show becomes some god tier stuff. Flash also stole the show everytime he appeared, makes me wish him and Martian Manhunter played more of a role later in the series. (does anyone even give a shit about Green Lantern and Hawkgirl in this show?)

Also Green Lantern: TAS is a separate continuity.

Despite being made by Bruce Timm, nope GL TAS isn't.

With that said with some fanwanking you can actually make them work.

I like the JL OVA's and the JLU arc was really good (thank you Dwayne Mc Duffie). Yes JL was ...ok and JLU was great (the question, black canary, huntress eps rock) . To me the OVA's are even better , Doom and Crisis on infinite earths were really good. But the initial show was meh save for a handful of eps, JLU was my preferred show. JL was kinda meh like the superman show that didnt get better till darkseid showed up and the Lobo episode , JLU was good like batman/robin adventures/ TAS.

It's not as connected as the others, sure, but there's still some follow through, like Cadmus.
Riffing on the same DCU source material doesn't mean they're part of the same continuity. Wally West being adult Flash in one and Kid Flash in the other doesn't strike you as creating a distinct line of separation between the two?

As long as you don't think about it.. don't think there's anything in the series that would say it couldn't be?

Isn't Hal Jordan Parallax in the JL/JLU continuity? Or at least, just not a Green Lantern? I know in one episode, where they monkey around with the time continuity, John Stewart briefly turns into Hal, but I don't recall any other reference to him. I suppose the events of Rebirth could have happened off screen in the DCAU, though.

Someone who's actually seen GL:TAS should comment though, I'm just speculating.

one of my favourite shows in the world also the sort of show you can watch over and over again.

Cant beat batman in it either

Hal isn't really seen in Justice League. Kyle is first introduced in Superman and John takes over in Justice League... we could imagine Hal was busy in frontier space!

I believe Star Sapphire exists.. which may be a problem.

Well, okay then, I did not realize that Kid Flash was also Wally West. Guess I should've picked up on that, but it slipped by me.

If that's the case, then you're right, clear line of demarcation there. Is there anything else, though? I can't recall YJ making obvious distinctions from the the DCAU.

btw, Justice League Crisis on Two Earths acts like the "movie" between JL and JLU, despite not being considered part of the series.

Hal exists in JLU... as a cameo during the time travel episode. Also iirc the Star Sapphire there isn't Carol Ferris.
