RTTP: Justice League and Justice League Unlimited

Amazing show, though I did enjoy Justice League a bit more than unlimited. Things went to shit when GL got that hideous facial hair, kind of like the anti-Riker. Did love his relationship with Hawkgirl though, also Bruce and Diana was nicely done.

That said, a few awesome moments from Unlimited that come to mind;
1. That hilarious Booster Gold episode.
2. Batman dodging Omega Beams.
3. Flash in Luthor's body refusing to brush his teeth because he's evil.

And vice versa, when Luthor took off his mask to see who Flash really is. That was hilarious.

Marvel never really had their own animated studios or networks to broadcast them on because of a corporate parent until very recently.

Yup The Question and Booster Gold became personal favorites due to this series.. and of course DC killed off The Question not too long after it.. though I liked Renee Montaya..

You read my mind! Flash, Question, Booster Gold, and Green Arrow were all my favorite characters in the series. I guess it's part of the problem why I can't really get into DC comics, a majority of my favorite characters either aren't in an ongoing series, or got fucked on by the new 52.

Bahahahah Lex Luthor is Mr. Krabbs, and that episode about him trolling Supes fits Krabb's personality.

Playing Injustice put me in the mood for Justice League and I ended up marathoning through most of JL and all of JLU. Great stuff. Like the OP said, early JL had drawn-out stories thanks to the 2-part format, Batman would slip into BatGod mode, and it took them a while to feel out whether Wonder Woman was the heart of the team or competing with Hawkgirl for the position of top action-girl alpha-woman. But between Season 2 of JL and JLU the series hit it's stride in a big way. The Cadmus arc was absolutely fantastic. Trying to fight evil while losing the trust of those they protected was a much bigger, more genuine threat to the league than any other JL story. Sadly that made the Legion of Doom arc in Season 2 look pretty small time in comparison.

I've been looking at this again all this week on netflix.

Good times when this came out. When a new episode released I was hyped to see it. Pretty sure I've seen each episode easily more than 2 times.

Sadly their parents' company vision is a lot more skewed towards kids based on Ultimate Spider-man and previews for HULK: Agents of SMASH

Amazing show. I watched all of Batman Beyond, then went straight into JL. I wasn't too excited to watch it, what I remembered wasn't that great, but I heard JLU was the shit.

I somehow went through the show in a week. Everything starting with Legends was great, and by the end, I had fallen in love. I'm 8 or so eps into JLU right now, and it hasn't grabbed me the same way. Just watched the Ultimen episode, which was beyond depressing.

Speaking of Doomsday, it's one of the few problems I had - it seemed Cadmus was made during the Justice Lords event yet apparently Doomsday was made prior? It's some weak stuff but otherwise really good show.

From what I understand, Doomsday is from the precursor to Cadmus, which was started in response to the events of the series finale of Superman.

The Flash stole the whole show and ran with it.

Hmm, he was like my second or third least favorite character.

Hawkgirl > John > J'onn > Batman > Flash > Superman > Wonder Woman

IMO, of course.

Martian Manhunter is such dead weight, but I'll be damned if this isn't Bruce Timm's magnum opus.

dat Justice League intro

This was tragic. Such a cool and extremely powerful character that spends the whole series getting chumped. Him singing at the end of the Christmas ep actually made me cry, though; amazing choice for a story before wrapping things up with the finale.

The whole DCAU was some inspired stuff. Having continuity through all those shows over all those years was nothing short of glorious. The JLU Cadmus arc is probably some of the best stuff ever animated. I just wish they would have switched the Legion of Doom season with it so it could've ended on that arc instead. Great stuff.

Are we ranking characters? Let's rank characters!

Wonder Woman > Flash > Superman > Martian Manhunter > Batman > Hawkgirl > Green Lantern.

Also, Aquaman should have been on the team, damn it!

This saddens me greatly. Even the original Marvel stuff, X-Men and Spiderman took their child audience seriously. Not as much as DC did with their shows, which is another reason why the DCAU was superior.

For anyone going through the DCAU for the first time, make sure to watch "epilogue" last. Its meant to be the last episode, and wraps up a ton of dangling plotlines (mostly from batman beyond) and is a wonderful end to the DCAU.

I had my wisdom teeth out last Friday and literally spent the last 4 days watching the entire series. I had only really seen a handful of episodes from the first season when the show was originally on, but the show was pretty great. I kind of thought the last season of JLU was the weakest out of the entire run, but overall I really enjoyed it. I think I'm going to go back and watch all of BTAS now.

JL is fairly good, JLU is great.

The Darkseid thread through Superman : TAS and Justice League is amazing.

It's really great how plot threads from Superman: TAS continued and found use in JL & JLU. (Pretty much everything involving Darkseid,
Hamilton going from an ally of Superman to joining up with Cadmus, Braniac secretly remaining dormant in Luthor since that one Superman: TAS episode...
)

Yeah, watching Superman I never had any idea how big the ramifications behind
"If you will not be my knight, then you will be my pawn"
would become. The DCAU universe is brilliant.

Yeah, it's such a shame it took up to JL2 to have them follow it. Mostly it was "Batman with JL".

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I might marathon it again but I think I already did this time last year.

Shame the Legion of Doom only lasted 13 episodes versus 26. I needed MOAR

I might add Batman Beyond to that - although it only comes up in two episodes.
"Epilogue" is probably my favorite episode. maybe one of my favorites of the entire DCAU.
that scene with Ace.

Flash on the show is easily the best version.

I love the Batman/Wonder Woman thing, so much better than them just doing WW/Superman.

Oh yeah, been re-watching these on netflix (along with Batman TAS and Batman Beyond.) It still holds up so well. You are right, it really shows how far Marvel animated has to go to play catch up on the animated scene. Now if we could just get the same kind of dedication put into DC's live action efforts...

edit: YES Flash easily stole the show, one of my favorite super heroes so it was nice to see him done properly

Batman going down the list of reasons of why they should never hook up was hilarious.

"One, dating within the team always leads to disaster. Two, you're a princess from a society of immortal warriors, and I'm a rich kid with issues... lots of issues."

Watching JL and JLU these days, it's pretty crazy to see how much innuendo got slipped in, heh.

Flash was so great in this show. I was not happy that he was practically nonexistent for the first half of JLU

Wonder Woman and batman were great too, as was the question

my favorite part was when he did the old superhero line of how his enemies would try to get to him through her, and she casually crushed a gargoyle in her hand to show how few fucks she gave

For original team members before Unlimited:

Flash > Martian Manhunter > Batman > Wonder Woman > Hawkgirl
post Starcrossed
> Superman > Green Lantern > Hawkgirl
pre-Starcrossed.

Good thing Unlimited beefed the roster with a lot of great new characters considering my two favorite characters weren't involved as much.

Excellent series. It even tied up Batman Beyond for me which I loved. Perfect voice casting, great stories, and I loved how everything was mostly a 2 part series/episodes. I wish they would bring the series back with the same voice actors...

Started watching this a while ago for the first time. I hadn't even heard of it before and I'm not much a comic person. I'm around the end of the second season now.
First season was enjoyable but second season has been great! They really do a lot of interesting things with the characters and stories, things I didn't expect from a series like this. Can't wait to see more. :)

Have you seen BTAS, STAS & Batman Beyond?
crazy how they all stayed pretty consistent all the way through.

Watched the first three episodes (aka "Secret Origins") of Justice League and I'm underwhelmed. The animation leaves a lot to be desired. The narrative is mediocre, voice direction needs work. Wonder Woman's VA in particular kind of sucks. Hoping the other arcs are better.
