RTTP: Pokemon Black and White (Unmarked Spoilers)

yeah, i know they're not the best but I really like their designs (i'm assuming you're talking about Emolga, Unfezant, and Samurott). I would have switched Unfezant to Braviary but I didn't want to train a Rufflet up to level 54. I like electro ball and volt switch a lot, and I'm sure I could have gone with Galvantula but I'm not a fan of spiders. Also, Samurott is my starter, I can't just leave him behind, and he's a cool dude once you get to know him.I had Krookodile in there with me but switched him out for Zekrom. He did save my butt against Shauntal and Caitlin.

Also, I really hate Shauntal's Cofagrigus. That dude took forever, and it's the first pokemon she sends out.

Haha I'm just messing anyway, it's YOUR team so you can use whoever you want. However I was actually referring to Emolga, Unfezant (although I take it back since I like the male design, hate the female though) and Zekrom. Reshiram fan here. Though I don't like that you're practically forced to use the legendary in the final battle.

And yeah Cofagrigus is a tank beast.

OK so, I'm playing through Pokemon white now, since I'm super hyped for Sun and Moon and I'd never played gen V.

I'm loving it. It's very interesting to play a game with this approach, and I really hope the emphasis on story and specially how incredibly different the entire region feels from all the others come through in S&M (which it will for what we've seen so far). Narrative wise it is on a different level as the OP says but there's a ton of room for improvement as well IMO. Still it's a really good case for giving Pokemon games a bigger recurring cast and having them be a bit more three dimensional. The difficulty level is pretty good as well.

I'm not a big fan of the Pokedex though; I have a decent team and all but I just don't feel the designs too much. And that encounter rate is absolutely the worst. First gen I'm actually buying repels actively because some of the dungeons I just can't enjoy because of how frequently Pokemon appear and I'm just begging for them to end.

Is the encounter rate in BW2 as high as in this one? I'm tackling that next so I can say I've played every main Pokemon game. So far I'm having a blast with the DS gen and regret giving up on it before XY brought me back.

Also I don't really get using any of gen Vs strengths as arguments against gen VI. I can see how preferences can be split due to the aspects of the Pokemon experience they each chose to emphasize, but gen VI is awesome on its own and as I said it brought me back to the franchise.

After I stopped playing with Silver, I got back into the series with X, then AS, then White, and I have to say, White is my favorite in the series so far. It's not perfect, and still has a lot of the same problems of staleness, bad story (better doesn't mean good), etc. that all Pokemon games have, but I LOVE the fact that it's all original Pokemon, and how, with the post-game, you first of all haven't even explored like 1/3 of the map, and two, it starts you back at the beginning, except each area has tons of new secrets and routes you previously didn't have access to thanks to HMs.

Really well done, and recaptured what I liked about the originals, even if not necessarily the radical improvement the series needs.

I really disliked B/W when I first played it. It's much better going back to it knowing what to expect. I still dislike how the overworld progression is just a circle, but they fix that in B/W2.

It's because one of the feedback that Game Freak got from Sinnoh was that kids didn't finish the game because they found it too hard to explore.

Anyway while Unova may have been a circle it didn't bother me as the game had secret off the beaten path where you could obtain rare Pokémon or useful TM, something that was sorely lacking in Kalos which was more liner than Unova.

Though I don't like that you're practically forced to use the legendary in the final battle.

You aren't force to use as you can opt to send them back to the PC, which is what I did as they would be untrained for me use.

I recently replayed Gen5 and liked it more than my first playthrough (music is fantastic) but then story of Gen5 is so weird to me. Like I can't explain it but I don't like it at all. I hate N and Team Plasma. I just don't understand the popularity.

I do like more story focused games though so I applaud the effort. Gen6 was really short on story. :(

Easily my favourite entry after my nostalgic Red version loving goggles are removed.
Very well rounded in all departments, stellar soundtrack, the closest thing to a reboot of sorts the series is going to get and while divisive I love that one entry of many finally took the risk of running with entirely new mon exclusively for the main game.

Also mixing up the end game with the villains one upping the elite 4 finale was a nice change, Gen 5 nailed a lot of things by building off the Gen 4 base with greater playability, game speed and so on.

I like B/W only for the story lol. The meta game in Gen V is not my fav like at all.

Gen 6 while having bad story, actually had one of the best improvement in online, breeding, and EV training so i still believe Gen 6 is so much better vs Gen V.

I'm at Village Bridge right now and I cannot stress how good the music in this game is. Just talking to the random singer and him adding vocals to the background music is so good. You just want to hang out and chill here for a while.

Also, I forgot the huge jump in levels the other side of Unova has. I was in the sub 50s when I fought the Elite 4 but everyone here is in the 65s. It's a good thing a lot of the trainers here use first stage pokemon.

I've tracked down 2 of the six sages (dude near route 18 and the guy in the dream yard). Pretty random to have the waterfall hm just lying around in the back end of the route.

Gen V brought me back into the series. The sequels had amazing postgame content.

Great synth style soundtracks as well.

I love this detail too, how numerous towns in the game can add extra musical instruments to the song if you find the NPC with the instrument.

Yeah, I should have mentioned the instrument players in Nacrene City and Opelucid. There's also some guys in a house in Accumula Town. It's such a great touch.

Anyway, I just finished up eastern Unova, captured the sages for Looker. The sages are pretty underdeveloped but what little is there is fine I guess. A lot of talking about how Ghetsis guided them from their lowest points and abandoned them. Would have been nice if each of them was a boss battle instead of an exposition and TM dump.

Now all I have left to do is finish the Unova Dex as much as possible since there's no more Nintendo WiFi Connection for DS games and finish the Elite 4 rematch. Eastern Unova is a lot bigger than I remember.

Also, Lacunosa Town, holy crap. People talk a big game about Lavender Town being creepy in Red and Blue, but Lacunosa Town is something else entirely. This whole town is freaking terrified of the Giant Chasm and the monster hiding in there. Theres no one outside at night. You're listening to little kids talk about monsterous Pokemon eating them juxtoposed with the most cheerful music ever: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uzzg2gWKeTk

How often do you actually see terrified NPCs talk about Pokemon like they're legit monsters that will eat you? It's freaking great.

So a month later, I managed to complete the Unova dex outside of Tornadus and Landorus. Explored ever nook and cranny of Unova. Visited Challenger's Cave as well. That place is really pointless! I thought it would be something like the Unknown Dungeon of this gen, but instead it's just a place with Pokemon that aren't that much stronger than the one's in East Unova.

All did the Pokemon League rematch. That was pretty tough, pretty big jump in levels, and all of them use 6 Pokemon. Cofigrigus still gives me trouble.

This is the first time I've fought Alder since I never did it in my first playthrough years ago. He's...interesting. he's another varied type trainer like Blue and Cynthia. It's weird seeing a bug type be the Champion's signature Pokemon.

Anyway I think my adventures in Unova are over for now

And for something completely different

Black and White is a great game, but I think it's on the lower end of the main Pokemon titles.

+A lot of new Pokemon, many which are actually really strong and useful in the game. They really got creative with the typings. In the post game you can get a lot of older Pokemon as well. I mean you can catch Dragonites in the wild. Wacky!
+TMs being infinite is one of the best gameplay decisions the series has had. EVERYONE WILL LEARN EARTHQUAKE WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT.
+Fairly challenging and there were plenty of options to test your mettle with the Battle Subways. Unova probably has the best overall E4 in terms of design and challenge. Dark, Ghost, Psychic? They were not playing around.
+Excellent music and I liked the animated sprites. Pokemon looked so detailed and had personality.
+Seasons were a fun addition, but they really should have been weekly instead of monthly.

-Boring overworld. Everything felt samey, and since it was so linear I felt like I really didn't have much option to explore.
-Didn't really add anything huge to the Pokemon formula. Gen II had breeding, special split, and two new types. Gen III had natures, abilities, and double battle. Gen IV had special/physical specific moves and introduced Wifi. Gen V had.... dream world? Rotation battles? No one cares. TMs being infinite is by far the greatest addition.
-I could not get into the story. It's not some deep philosophical look at how humans and Pokemon interact. Evil king guy wants to take over the world. Also N is just so strange to me.

It is basically the pokémon game that made me care about the series, everything works so well in this game (especially the total reboot regarding the pokedex). First Pokémon game to hook me. X/Y was not as good (especially the horrible story) but I have high hopes for Sun/Moon based on the demo and what have been revealed so far.
