RTTP: Superman- or the best superhero movie ever

So I'm watching Superman with Christopher Reeve and man, what an amazing movie. It really puts in perspective how the current crop of superhero movies (exception of Batman Begins) pales in comparison. How is it that after so many attempts with Spiderman, Hulk, XMEN, Fantastic 4, etc. that none of them compares to the genius of this movie?

Real Time Transfer Protocol?

Anyways, Gene Hackman is the sole reason why this movie tops all others. In addition to the nostalgia factor, and with exception to nasty, nasty Lois Lane (ugh), Superman brings exceptional special effects and a superman who doesn't take himself too seriously.

No. Even IGN agrees with us: http://movies.ign.com/articles/676/676647p5.html

Fuck you Superman

I respectfully disagree. This isn't even a Batman vs Superman thing, I'm just not head over heels about the the first Superman film. It's good, but I think the first Spider-Man film is a modern day equivalent.

Superman II: Richard Donner Cut is leaps and bounds (a pun!) better than the first movie.

I don't agree with this comparison only because, personally, Spider-Man's cast was vomit inducing. The only bad casting about Superman 1 was a Lois.

I can't tell you how many Halloweens I dressed up as this guy. This movie is certainly in my top 5. Nazis and rocket packs = win.

The best thing about this film for me is the cinematography. Theres some really sweet, effective shots like when Clark stands in the cornfield and the camera lowers to his level likes its carried on the wind.

Yup. Also for people who mention Superman II, yes it was amazing but what sets this film apart IMO is how it spent so much time showing the beginnings of Superman. It perfectly portrayed him as a young boy, adolescent, and then after leaving the farm as he become the adult Clark Kent. Obviously there was no reason for any of the sequels to do this but its one reason this stands apart for me.

I think we can all agree that Teri Hatcher is the greatest Lois ever.

She had the professional credibility and brusque big-city shrillness of Margot Kitter, and she had the looks which was pretty much all the modern Lois' were cast for.

Yup, I agree wholeheartedly because she is
hot!

Yeah I think I'd seen a few superhero movies before watching Superman. Reeve really was Superman in that movie.

Before that I had only seen Lois and Clark, a series which I really enjoyed. Well and the DCAU animated series. And when I was very little I watched Flesicher Superman all the time.

Funny thing though, before I saw the movie I was a more of a Marvel and/or Batman fan. :lol

I think we can all agree that Teri Hatcher was hot as Lois but what's amazing in all of these incarnations is that whoever they pick for Lois is perfect for that version of Superman. Kidder was perfect for Reeve's character, Dana Delany and Tim Daly etc.

I red (son) the other day and still can't believe how good it was for a Superman comic:

Red Son is awe, much better than True Brit which sucks donkey balls

p.s. I love how Millar depicted the Americans here...dude's views are sooo transparent :lol

Superman 1 with Reeves is the most authentic feeling Super-Hero movie ever.

many others go through adaptations, compromises to try to sell a Super-Hero as "realistic" or make too many oddball changes

I love so much about the first Superman movie, but let's be honest: time travel really knocks it down a few pegs.
