I sure hope Mafi's injury isn't too serious but that stretcher certainly isn't a good indication at all. And dang, what a huge loss. That guy can make some great breakaways.

Damn! I rue that awful transfer in Japan's territory. Not only that but there were too many forwards stuck inside of that ruck. Japan's fringe defense was too thin to defend anything there.

That is why Hogg is so vital for us. Beautiful break after Seymour did a superb job contesting the kick.

Commentators missed that. Ffs he needs to get his head together.

On another note...what a beard Strauss has. That thing should have its own jersey.

It is beautiful. Should always be a great beard in any Scotland team.

Nice interception there. Scotland kept very well their composure today, even when Japan were playing better, a solid start for the World Cup.

That is an absolutely sensational offload from Russell. What a joy it is having him at 10.

EDIT: And then he scores. So well deserved.

Dont be sad. Be happy for us Scots! Drink some scotch and party!
im sad for my money as my scotland/japan halftime/fulltime bet was lookin real good for about 5 mins in the second half, but scotland earned this in a big way. good job!

Not that there is really an alternative, but still think that having group of five teams can be a bit unfair, with Japan having to face a fresh Scottish side in their second game.

While I do see what you're saying - I'd hate to make any excuses for Japan especially when their international team is on the rise. They should have be ready to grind it out even if they weren't fresh like Scotland was. I hope that Japan can take this loss with grace and continue to work on improving - like they've been doing for years. Taking responsibility for the loss will only help Japan's international team propel themselves above "Tier 2" for future world cups (like the next one in Japan perhaps!)

Japan is one of those rare cases where the severe underdog has been able to play ball with the premier teams and I love it. I hope other teams like Georgia and Samoa and heck, even developmental international teams - become competitive enough to not only reach the Rugby World Cup but also give the established teams hell. I mean - it would definitely serve rugby in a positive way with more teams/brackets.

Australia Fiji could be an interesting one next. Thought Fiji looked handy at times against England.

Oh yeah! The score between Fiji and England should have been a lot closer than it was. I count at least 14 points that Fiji lossed out on due to missed penalties.

Well, this match is done now. I hope Romania will break the today's pattern and manages to keep close to France.

Argentina's Mariano Galarza has been banned for the rest of the tournament for eye gouging in the ABs/Argie game. Pathetic stuff.

It's disappointing to see Japan lost against Scotland but it isn't too surprising given the poor draw they received. Playing two Tier 1 teams in just four days is a tough ask for any team, Tier 2 or not. I was hoping to watch the entire game, so went to bed early, but still ended up sleeping through most of it.

I did see most of the Aus/Fiji game though. Pocock is by far and away the best player in the Wallabies.
