Famed video game leaker NateTheHate was asked by a fan whether he had heard any new news about the long-awaited Final Fantasy IX Remake which hasn't been properly acknowledged by Square Enix. He says he has no information to share regarding Final Fantasy IX Remake and that he believes the project is likely on ice and that it is unknown whether Square Enix will return to it.

"Have no new information to share. For now, I'd assume the game is on ice & the unknown is whether SqEx will return to it or not."

It wasn't really speculation. It was part of the Nvidia leak, and I'm pretty sure damn near every game in it has some to fruition or been announced almost, except this. So it's not like it was just some baseless reddit rumor.

That list was fake.
This and many other entries proves it.
FF9 would have been released years ago if that list was real as it required games to be near completion and in testing with NVIDIA hardware in order for it to be included.

This was obviously fake when people discovered Nintendo's games also listed on it, but nobody wanted to hear it at the time.

I'd expect at least light remasters of 8-13. Square milked the cow of 1-7, now it's time for the later games.

Just cancel it. It is not worth this much time and resource. Square needs to focus on redefining FF for the future, not regurgitating the past. If VII Remake didn't revitalize the company, a IX Remake won't do the trick.

I remembered after seeing the original gameplay trailer that there was a lot of guessing that Part 1 would be released in 2015 or 2016. After all the whole point of it was to sell PS4s in Japan.

Honestly, I'm getting tired of remakes from all these companies. I think SE should focus on the future of Final Fantasy and let the past go. If FF7 Remake which was by far the most popular Final Fantasy game didn't blow up the sales charts, what do they expect from FF9?

Part of doing the remasters is keeping the brand fresh. If the Part 3 team does FF17, and it remains AAA, you are looking at it being released in 2030 or later.

FF9R was on the Nvidia leak so we know it's a real project.

I think they wanted to announce it this year, they had an entire tranch of new artwork and merch made for the anniversary, all that stuff was clearly building towards something then.. nothing.
