All jokes aside, why is Bungie splintering into multiple projects when their next big game that they announced 2 years ago doesn't even have a release window.

You'd think they would be all hands on deck between that and maintaining Destiny.

Destiny is doing a new thing this year. Marathon might end up cancelled if it doesn't wow people. They might as well show this off and cancel quickly if it doesn't resonate. At this point this might be the smartest thing they could do. They can always throw a Destiny 3 together if this all fails.

Man, I get Bungie was a massive overpay by Sony and odds are this and other small projects were already being worked on...but it's Bungie and they do one thing well...sometimes. Destiny 3 should have been priority number 1 from Sony, put together an all star team (not the blue haired weirdos who ruined D2) give them a new proper engine and time and let them release a game that would have potential to sell millions and have their stupid microtransactions. Or if Bungo is so sick of Destiny pass it along to another studio since you own them, bring in your own peeps and mix in some bungie alum and do it....not this shit that will be DOA, or Marathon...who also appears to be DOA.

What kind of game should I be expecting here?

Imagine something that in terms of gameplay has team battles that are a mixture between MOBA, Smash Bros and 3D platformer, using a sort of Among Us-ish, Mario-ish art style but a bit more realistic, and having outside the battles a social life sim portion that is some sort of a mixture between Sims, PS Home, the Destiny hub and Animal Crossing.

A pretty fresh and new kids friendly thing.
