Playstation to have state of play or showcase around end of September

Announce a Gladiator game where you just beat the ever loving shit out of PlayStation figureheads and I'll buy the early access double dingus deluxe edition.

Amazing how I don't give a fuck anymore.
It really is a shame. I've always been a playstation fan, but this generation has been so poor, I've just been on PC basically the whole gen whilst my PS5 gathers dust. Doubt I'll get a PS6 either considering it's all coming to PC these days.
I don't think Sony's 1st party output has ever been weaker.

Possible stuff they could see there (but very likely only 1 game announcement:
  • Marathon improvements
  • Saros gameplay reveal
  • Ghost of Yotei new gameplay
  • Marvel Tokon characters reveal
  • Venom (in case it was greenlighted) announcement
  • SSM announcement (small project, not Cory's new IP)
  • Horizon Online announcement
  • Firesprite's new game announcement (Until Dawn 2?)

There are a lot of existing questions that need to be answered, before getting too far into announcing new stuff.

What's up with Wolverine/KOTR/FairGames$

What is Barlog's team up to?

What's going on with Marathon?

Between Saros and Intergalactic they already have some big future games announced + Yotei still isn't out. They've got stuff on the horizon we just don't know enough specific details about any of it.

Intergalactic and Saros are next up. And traditionally Sony only shows 1-2 of their major first party titles barring no new reveals.

GG may be ready to begin the Horizon 3 drumbeat but otherwise? I imagine everyone else is heads down on PS6.

S-E might have something to show for FFVII pt.3 or the FFIX Remake, but the one mystery is whether MS and Sony will embrace via SOP. Methinks yes.

Showcase for what though? Ghost is next and they had a showing for that. And everything else seems to be 2027 or later.
No:
  • Marvel's Wolverine, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, Marathon and Saros are all coming out in 2026.
  • Fairgames was also slated to come out next year (after being delayed out of 2025) but who knows with all the recent high-profile departures at the studio.
  • The unannounced God of War 2D spin-off, Guerrilla's Horizon live-service (it was planned to launch in the first half of 2025) and Firesprite's Until Dawn sequel are also coming out next year.
Those are already eight titles to choose from for a first-party lineup at an hypothetical Showcase. And that's without getting onto some other heavy-hitters that have been cooking for a while now:
  • There could be gameplay shown for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and Naughty Dog might even be able to announce the second game they've been working on.
  • Santa Monica Studio could finally unveil Cory Barlog's project, whatever it might be.
  • Polyphony Digital might be ready to show the next Gran Turismo (unless they are saving it for PS6 launch in holiday 2027).
  • Hermen Hulst did tease a FromSoftware collaboration back in 2021 (as they did with Kojima Productions, which went on to bear fruits such as the Director's Cut, Death Stranding 2 and Physint) and SIE has even went on to invest into FromSoftware themselves in the years since.
  • MediaMolecule has been working on something ever since ending support for Dreams a couple of years ago.
Not to mention how Sony-adjacent Japanese third-party certainly has a lot that they might want to talk about near TGS:
  • Resident Evil Requiem, Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Pragmata.
  • Silent Hill 2 DLC, Silent Hill Townfall and whatever they're doing for a Castlevania revival.
  • Kingdom Hearts IV and Yoko Taro's new game.
  • The next Ace Combat and Tales of games, as well as Dark Souls III Remastered.
  • Nagoshi's new game.
A Showcase could definitely be made -- whether it finally gets put together or not is just a matter of aligning marketing efforts from a handful of parties involved.

20 minutes of Hermen Hulst sniffing Aloy's armpits while Bungie's building is burning in the background. The showcase ends with "pre-order Marathon now!".
