A Chinese Weibo leaker, 荷姆荷姆嗼, who previously leaked the entire June Nintendo Direct, has been counting down using Fibonacci sequence numbers since December 21.

Based on this pattern, the countdown will end on January 8. The leaker previously claimed that the Switch 2 could be revealed in January, so this might hint at its announcement date. His Weibo posts are only visible to followers, so you'll need to create an account and follow him to view them. Here's the screenshots of the Weibo posts:

I´m surprised they are missing out on christmas. But its Nintendo, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They want to ensure that the Switch is the forever top selling console of all time. That's why they want one last hurrah for the holidays before they launch the successor.

I hope Nintendo creates a 13th month to the year, just to drop a reveal for Switch 2. Right after January. Nintober. Nincember. Nintenbuary. Nin.

I still doubt it's a March launch since Nintendo states before during investor meetings that new hardware won't launch in this fiscal year… which ends in March. So I think April or May would be more likely.

But anything is possible.

I don't care when it's revealed or released but I do hope it's soon for the announcement.

Need a good Mario (not including Kart/Smash), Pokemon, or Zelda game for it or else I'll just hold off.

I expected a bigger buffer from xmas. Either they totally don't care about making people feel duped, or maybe felt some other pressure to accelerate, like developers eager to move on from Switch already.

It is a period in which schools in Japan, close the academic year, many consoles were launched during this time, mainly portable ones:

PS2 - March 4, 2000
Switch - March 3, 2017
GBA - March 21, 2001
GBA SP - February 14, 2003
NDS Lite - March 2, 2006
3DS - February 26, 2011

They need to sell that stock to people who don't realize its successor is coming in 3 months.

Which is an insane concept to me. It's as if Nintendo doesn't believe the Switch 2 will be that big of a leap over the Switch of something.

I am thinking they will try to repeat the success of the Switch 1, so release the Switch 2 mid year (ish) and keep the 3D Mario for the first Christmas period.

March works for me. Hopefully they have another big exclusive besides mk9.

Sounds good to me as well.

Other big exclusives that *should* be ready by now: Metroid Prime 4, a new Super Mario 3D game entry(Odyssey 2 please!) and 4k/60fps special edition of TLOZ: BOTW(showed off to insiders a while back).

So I think Nintendo will have multiple killer apps for the launch. Not to mention, almost certainly Call of Duty coming back, Rockstar Games support, Take 2 support. Borderlands 4 anyone?

But yeah, a March release is great. Let's roll Nintendo!

This is a wild take. How would holding off announcing new hardware until old stock clears indicate a small jump? Not that the jump couldn't be small, I just don't think the logic holds up.

I just don't see them doing that fast of a turnaround. The rumors of January reveal, then more of an in-depth look in March where they'll say it's launching in June along with various titles.

That's just my opinion. It could go either way.

I thought it would be the end of January to avoid all those Christmas returns.

You can't return if the item is opened, and what kind of child who receives a Switch for Christmas is going to say "actually mother, let me wait to see if we get Switch 2 news before the end of the holiday return policy"?

?? On Amazon i've opened plenty of boxes and returned it after that.

It's funny seeing gafers thinking Nintendo is dropping the ball and they see the 5d plays Nintendont, as if Nintendo hasnt been a business for over a hundred years.

Exactly as I predicted. A lot of holiday returns end on January 4th. Nintendo just creating bag holders smh. Once the switch 2 gets announced on the 8th, sales for the switch will drop off a cliff barring a major price drop.

I think is going to launch in June… March is not a bad month either. They are going to move more than 2 million Switch WW this December, so the announcement in January is expected.

Nintendo previously said that the Switch successor would be revealed during this fiscal year, which for Japan ends on March 31. The specific wording of this makes me doubtful that it will also be launched by that date. Having only 2 months between reveal and launch, as this rumor claims, also doesn't track with how Nintendo has handled console launches in the past....in the case of the Switch, it was 5 months, and previous consoles were longer than that.

We'll see, but color me skeptical.

Times have changed and now they only have one console, the launch is going to be more close to the announcement to prevent the drop of hardware sales.

Guess that means there won't be a reveal, then.

Most likely, there's a reveal planned around that time but Nintendo have already internally rescheduled it for another date in part to screw over the leakers.

In any case, I'll wait until Nintendo officially announce a presentation before getting too excited. But yes, Switch 2 itself I am very interested in seeing what it brings to the table 😁

I hate my logic here too, but I can't understand why Nintendo would hold out on showing and talking about their next generation hardware this long. I mean are they really only gonna give people 60 days to pre-order this device? Why only give people 60 days to talk about it and see it?

Seems odd to me.

In this day and age, anything more than 2 months from official announcement to official release is ridiculous.

Do anyone of you understand Nintendo's a business? I get it we're all excited for the announcement and release but it would be silly to release it before Christmas and cannibalism switch sales during the holidays.

January 8 of 2025...or January 8 of 2899??
Oh Come On GIF
