It's not bad of a price compared to regular controllers prices Sony and MS scam people with.

It has way more into it and I believe it has TMR if I am not mistaken too

If they are using regular sticks they can shove it
Yeah seems to use TMR sticks. Not a terrible price.

I got a laugh out of "but it is only $25 more than the PS5 controller." Dude, $25 difference in a controller is significant. I am still in for one.

Joy con 2 are expensive as well.

The controller will be worth it though, the deck controls are so versatile, this is gonna be the same good stuff here.

Edit: The touch pad and community downloadable control schemes should be a standard for every system imo

For $25, you can already get quite decent controllers from GameSir or 8BitDo, so it's not a small amount of money. But as an extra charge on top of an already overpriced controller, it doesn't seem that much. I'm curious to see whether it'll actually be any good. The bar for battery life and stick drift isn't exactly set very high anyway.

Meh. I picked up an 8bitdo Pro 3 for $34 recently and feel I'm sorted on the controller front for a long time. That also has TMR sticks, Hall triggers, motion controls and came with a nice charging dock in the box too.

DualSense get stick drift though. 3 of mine did.

The one I bought 2 years ago to replace the one that came with my launch PS5 and developed stick drift is also now stick drifting bad.

At least Nintendo will replace my joycons free if they drift with basically no questions asked even after the warranty is up, but Sony and Microsoft don't give a fuck. They're knowingly and willingly using old, outdated, and flawed technology and refuse to take responsibility when it stops working. It's ridiculous.

I paid $5 for the original was willing to splash out $10 to check the newer but inferior version.

Would've been cool if it was around the price of a base PS5 or Xbox controller, but TMR sticks, the trackpads, the gyro and capacitive grips + rear buttons together I knew would price it higher at minimum.

TMR sticks are great though, and still think it's shit that all the base first-party controllers are potentiometer-based, after losing 3 pads to drift (fuck you especially Nintendo) over the years...it will hopefully push the next console pads to adopt it or something similar.

Funny how he's conditioning his audience to see that as cheap.

Man Steam can get away with anything with those people!

Not a bad price! I think a lot of people were expecting it to cost much more.

So if Steam Machine includes a $100 controller, then that means the console will cost at least $100.

If my math is correct, along with some crafty deduction work given the market, Steam Machine will probably cost…

$9,000
$9,100

DOA then, unfortunately. I really want this to succeed, but the way Valve is pricing it makes it seem Valve is releasing this as a high margin, niche product, and I don't think this is the market for that right now. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am at all. Suppose we'll see.

Most (if not all) of their hardware is niche imo. I think you are reading my comment as negative when it more speaks to the quality of the products they build.

With that quality comes higher prices in general like their last vr hardware offering for example.

Yes, it was a fantastic headset, but was also a premium priced offering for the entire time it was offered for sale.

As I stated, I was expecting 149 for the new controller and was more than happy to pay that price for it given their track record for previously released products.

I've never experienced Hall effect sensors and TMR apparently is Hall 2.0, so I'm definitely going to give one a shot.

I would love to get it. I used my Steam Controller and Steam Link maybe 2-3 times. Maybe this will be different. I had those day 1. It needs a pull down keyboard.

I'm assuming this was in response to me.

Idk I guess I was looking at it from the standpoint of out of 5 pieces of released hardware so far only the Index was expensive and it was very high end and niche.

The Steam Machine was $449, Steam Controller was $49, Steam Link was $49, and the Steam Deck was $399.

I've always seen Valve hardware as cheap not in a build or quality way but price.

Considering the likely build quality and features, $99 is a fair price TBH. Especially if it doesn't have the stick drift issue of standard PS5 and Xbox controllers.

Machines gonna be over a grand isn't it?

I don't think there's any correlation.

If you want a shit controller, pay a cheaper price. Cost of materials even for things like high-quality controllers have gone up, especially if Valve are avoiding things like stick drift which are common with Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo standard controller products.

It has similar functionality to a DualSense Edge or Xbox Elite controller, but comes in cheaper, and it's not terribly more expensive than a DualSense. Some of you don't seem to have any realistic perspective on pricing relative to the quality of things, unfortunately.

I mean at bare minimum there's a correlation in that the controller is included with the Steam Machine and the higher the price of the controller the higher the price of the Steam Machine.

Also, I think it's reasonable that he is assuming that since Valve isn't trying to price the controller low that they won't with the Steam Machine either (though I think this has been a given for awhile now).
