Rumor: Titanfall also 720p?

Ugh I'm still so bummed out. It's like a good friend betrayed me :/

Worst part is I probably won't find a wild ps4 for a long time.

In the UK their phase 2 was confirmed before XMas, Phase 3 shortly after... likely Stock after that point should overspill onto the shelves. Have faith, they will likely try and put some % of stock on the shelves to create the hype and talk..

When I watch a legit 1080p blu-ray movie, I think "holy shit this looks amazing".

Yeah, I'd say about 75% of my channels are 1080p. The remaining 720p ones just seem lazy for not switching. And there is a pretty noticeable different with a large TV and sitting in the ideal viewing range (for me, that's about 5-7 feet away).

The cable company argument is ridiculous, they are all notoriously behind the times when it comes to upgrading their stuff, and yet he's using the argument that a few outliers still are running their HD channels at 720p...even though the majority have switched to 1080i. Ugh.

It may not seem like a huge deal, but it is on principle. This gen was supposed to be an upgrade. My PC has been > 720p res for 4 years. 4 YEARS

I think you inadvertently proved his point. If you live in the US, there are no 1080p OTA broadcasts. Just 720p or 1080i. OTA looks better because your cable co has to grab the signal, and recompress it, and sometimes convert from 1080i to 720p or vice versa.

Amazon had some BF4 and Killzone bundles up for a bit yesterday. I'd sign up for their notifications, as I'll bet a bunch of people get cold feet at the last minute for whatever personal or financial reason.

I know it hurts, but it's better to come to terms with it now than to have to rationalize and justify your purchase for the next 5-6 years.

I just can't believe that even well known journalists actually defend 720p over 1080p. How much worse can I get? Why not just say "fuck it all" and go back to the NES because, well, tech doesn't matter and a standard established like 8 years ago (!!!!!) is worth shit.

Garnett, this isn't even the same thing. It's like if ESPN said we needed to upgrade our receivers to get ESPN HD, but then gave us basically the quality that we had in SD channels. You'd be wondering like we are why we bothered to upgrade.

How can a gme box that is significantly more powerful than the PS3 or 360 only run two of the premier games for it's launch at 720, yet ask us to spend $500 to get a slightly better experience than we'll have with a 7 year old console?

So that means you own every console out there including PC, so this news doesn't matter to you because you will simply buy the games (including Titanfall) on the superior platform?

I don't know hat you're going on about here, I don't have the time or money to have all the consoles and a PC, so I make my decision based on exclusives. X1 has the exclusives I want. I don't really care about resolution as long as its at least 720p. I'm not sure why you have to be so thick about this.

This is what happens when you turn your division over to accountants, lawyers and managers.........you had a good run Microsoft but unlike OGXbox and 360 I will NOT be there on launch day or any day soon after.....soo sad.

I would be happy with games running at 720p if they had enough supersampling to make them look as good as, uh, real life.

I really really like Garnett and Weekend Confirmed and have listened weekly since the 1UP days, but comparing television resolution to gaming resolution is utterly asinine. That is just an embarrassing tweet, and I hope he has to good sense to pull back from it on Friday.

We need Shane to come in and talk him off the ledge...or to set him straight.

the amount of worrying over 720p vs 1080p instead of worrying about gameplay his really ridiculous.

i guess gameplay isnt important anymore, can we ever have a discussion about a game without worrying about pixel counting?

The argument isn't that TitanFall isn't going to be fun because it is 720p. The argument is that TitanFall at 1080p is better than TitanFall at 720p, all other things (like gameplay) being the same.

Will things improve over time? Yes, of course they will. But things will also be improving for PS4, which means that less time is spent on reaching 1080p 60FPS and more time on other things like better draw distance, or FOV, or other things.

Both systems will improve. It just makes some people sad that the foundation for Xbone is so much lower than PS4 or even mid-range computers.

Each to their own dude, if specs and resolution means little it doesnt really matter, but bare in mind, games like DR3 + Titanfall are only timed exclusives, dont let that impair your judgement, get the console that suits you best personally.

55% more GPU is more than about pixels.

We consumers do not want to be stuck to 720p for 14-16 years. We have been stuck in 720p for about 6-7 years now. Even smart phones display 1080p.

If you play PC games, you know you can sacrifice resolution for better effects or a better framerate, and vice versa. No doubt Xbox One will be capable of 1080p just like 360 is - it's up to the developers what resolution they pick.

The game will still run. Is it that much of a dealbreaker?

Yes. If it can't run fuckin CoD at 1080p MS fucked something up.

Appreciate the heads up. I'd really want one at best buy since I have their credit card and get 5% but I'll still sign up for the notifications.

Oh, come on. Weekend Confirmed is one of the better gaming podcasts out there, if only for Garnett and Jeff butting heads on issues like this one. Can't wait to hear this week's episode... we know Garnett's position, but I have a feeling Jeff's on our side. "Our side" being this:

Yep.

I stopped listening to Weekend Confirmed because of Garnett. I listened to about 4 podcasts in a row and every podcast had him spouting off completely inaccurate info as fact. The guy has poor knowledge of video game history as well. I suppose I should list examples but I don't have the time to listen to the podcasts again to find them.

Not sure alot of people are getting the widespread implications of this news, not only is it titanfall, Cod and the list of others have settled at a 720p resolution, this news means games as simple looking effects etc as cod limited to that resolution gives little hope for futures games being able to achieve 900p-1080p on xbox1. Cboat reported we better get used to it. Its scandalous that we cant expect 1080p on most games next GEN, its not just isolated to these last couple of reports.

Garnett's great. He has opinions, though, like everyone does. No need to start a hate-fest just because he's not all up in arms about the resolution stuff.

Garnett, when I watch the NFL on NBC and CBS I love what I see. When an NFL game is on Fox, it's immediately obvious that one of these things is not like the others. Ultimately the content is more important than the visuals, but if given the choice I'd much prefer the one that offers both.

The game will still run. Is it that much of a dealbreaker?

It is when you are paying $500 for a 2013 next gen console. But then again, unlike something like COD, your choices for playing it are PC/360/xbox one. SO I would say this would have been a bigger deal breaker if a competitor like Sony could release the same game at 1080p.

But since that isn't the case, I can't see why anyone that really wants this would not get the Xbox One version, unless they own a PC.

If the game is identical except it runs at 720p on Xbone and 1080p on PS4, why is gameplay an issue?

The point of discussion is why was this generation so long when all we're going to get is more 720p games for $500? I can play tons of games with great gameplay on current gen and systems from 20 years ago. Gameplay is critical, but it's tangential to this discussion, which involves technical improvements that seem lacking 8 years later.

because you have a possible situation where you get less and paid more money, how is that not relevant?

Hell and that's 1080i, not 1080p.
