Rumor: Titanfall also 720p?

EejPmyY.png

C'mon Garnett you're better than that...

I'm usually on board with Garnett, but that comment is fucking ridiculous. Has the guy touched a PC game in the last 5 years? If he has, he'd know the difference is not something to be brushed off.

He's just trying to appear above it all. It's pretty common with him.

Im not sure if this sends a bigger message than the cod one.,... I mean this is a 1ST party exclusive XBOXone title running at 720p? Doesnt really say much if respawn + X1 Engineers who know the system cant get it to run 900-1080p, its gotta be the esram, seriously, 32mb must not be able to cut it with 60fps. Have seen this to death over the last few months on the Frame buffer size in some cases needing to be 53mb? For 1080p60fps with 2AA?

Titanfall isn't 1st party, even if they got help from MS. Regardless not being able to run source at 1080p/60fps is bad news indeed.

Wow. Foot in mouth. Around my area the local HD channels through providers are laughed at because you can get them OTA for free and they look far better so if you want to watch a high quality hockey broadcast you actually have to disconnect from your cable box and hook into an antenna.

My bad, I am fully aware their not first party, Not sure why I included that, should have left it at Exclusive, will edit my original post, mistake on my part.

Are we surprised gaming press are sticking their heads in the sand again after what happened with Xbox One?

It's a pretty fucking big deal if it runs at close to or the same resolution on XB1 as it does on 360. Its like paying $599 for a PS3 at launch to see Resistance running in standard def 480p.

We consumers do not want to be stuck to 720p for 14-16 years. We have been stuck in 720p for about 6-7 years now. Even smart phones display 1080p.

So this is all confirmed? Or just rumor still. Lot of people posting that it's true for a game still half a year away.

Digital Foundry: 1080p60 on Xbox One?

Drew McCoy: We'll see how performance goes. Frame-rate is king.

Uhh yeah, this is not going go be 1080. I was expecting 900p when he made this comment though, didn't think it would go as low as 720.

Yeah, I'd say about 75% of my channels are 1080p. The remaining 720p ones just seem lazy for not switching. And there is a pretty noticeable different with a large TV and sitting in the ideal viewing range (for me, that's about 5-7 feet away).

The cable company argument is ridiculous, they are all notoriously behind the times when it comes to upgrading their stuff, and yet he's using the argument that a few outliers still are running their HD channels at 720p...even though the majority have switched to 1080i. Ugh.

It may not seem like a huge deal, but it is on principle. This gen was supposed to be an upgrade. My PC has been > 720p res for 4 years. 4 YEARS

All this current outcry about resolution and 720p this and 30fps that reminds me of when i used to post on the 'InCrysis' forums (Soley PC fan forum at that time). They had a thread where they were saying that N64 Goldeneye running at 1080p/60fps (hypothetically ofcourse) would in their opinion be better looking that Killzone 3 running at 720p/30fps on PS3 (this was the point where many people said Killzone looked as good as Crysis).
Now you expect that king of 'logic' from PC fans but i thought console fans were beyond this kind of stuff.
I only have a 720p TV and COD and this game will look fine on my TV, in fact i'd take all multiplatform Xbox One games to be 720p if it means matching the assets, texture resolution and framerate of PS4 versions.

A lot of those channels, especially ESPN, use 1080p cameras to film their live content which is then downsampled by the network before being broadcast. So that's actually still higher quality than 720p on the Xbox.

Normally when we get some damming XB1 stories in a row we get a fluff peice from Digital Foundry talking with a MS guy about how awesome the xbox is. Do you think its to early to get one out this week?

Guys pack it up, 720P is good nuff.

Its a NEXT-GEN console, its supposed to have legs for the next 7years+, 1080p TV's over the next coming years will likely be phased out for 4k... Last gen we went from 480p to 720p (and it should have been 1080p then) to stop there is ridiculous imo, there is a massive difference even on youtube 720p-1080p videos, nevermind playing games in motion. Low standards if thats to be expected.

I think people are missing that DF were doing those articles because MS wanted to talk about it where DF mentioned that Sony (cerny) didn't really want to go into details.

Amount of hate for DF here is ridiculous and totally unwarranted considering they earlier delivered unbiased game comparisons for almost whole gen and delivering ton of good tech talk.

What would they write about? I think they ran out of fluff and theoretical nonsense.

So Garnett wouldn't choose to watch1080p sports for $100 less than he's paying now?

Strange.

But I think Beast nailed it best in yesterday's megaton thread: If 1080p isn't a big deal, somebody should let Turn 10 know that they're wasting time with that target with Forza.

Ehh...I think it ends up hurting everyone, not just Xbox fans.

1) The baseline is lowered for multiplats, which may not directly affect the PS4 versions, but it certainly doesn't help them.

2) I imagine at some point down the road I'll pick up an XB1 for some exclusive. So it sucks for me knowing that it'll be a $300+ machine that I'll be buying only to play a few games, rather than have it as a viable alternative to the PS4.

I'm not sure a ton of devs are going to gimp the ps4 versions of stuff to match the xbone though so it might not hold it back too much.

Ps4 owners do benefit from this disaster because a huge lead in console sales would make the timed exclusivity deals MS loves so much prohibitively expensive. More gamers getting games on day 1 is a win for everyone.

If 1080p isn't important, why are we even bothering with a new generation at all? Last gen consoles (8 years old) are perfectly capable of 720p.

You know what bums me out about next-gen?

That apparently, the graphical leap is so marginal that all we have to talk about are FPS and resolution.

The front page of GAF on any given day for the past few months is my point of reference.

I plan on buying TitanFall for the gameplay, not the 1080p.

Wonder if I'm in the minority when I think gameplay matters more than a slightly higher resolution? People are acting like all the sudden this game plays like crap because of this.

It makes no sense.

It's not some zero sum game. Gameplay is a design choice, not a technical limitation. If you're referring to framerate a source engine game should be 1080p/60fps no questions asked on next gen consoles. No one is saying they'd rather have shitty gameplay at 1080p, we should have both.

A lot of HDTV is 1080i or less because of significant bandwidth limitations that current TV tech is using. And yes. It does look bad.

Isn't 60fps more important at this point? You are talking about a game coming out less than half a year after launch that is supposed to be the new "it" in multiplayer. I'd prefer 60fps 7020p on the first one instead of 30fps 1080p. Color me crazy. I bet Titanfall 2 is 1080p 60fps.

Garnett Lee reminds me of, well, me as a kid, wondering why 640x480 games couldn't look photorealistic because footage on my (standard def) TV signal did.

I never expected Titanfall to be 1080p, but anyway..

People who are buying the Xbox One gotta let go about 1080p. It's clear that Microsoft doesn't care and didn't make the system specs to match native 1080p.

Their plan is to upscale, and they know most people won't care.

Alot of ppl won't give a shit, it's the ppl here who just need more ammo to fire at MS though.

Is it THAT much of a difference maker?

Ugh I'm still so bummed out. It's like a good friend betrayed me :/

Worst part is I probably won't find a wild ps4 for a long time.

Have you listened to his podcast? No. No he isn't.
Oh, come on. Weekend Confirmed is one of the better gaming podcasts out there, if only for Garnett and Jeff butting heads on issues like this one. Can't wait to hear this week's episode... we know Garnett's position, but I have a feeling Jeff's on our side. "Our side" being this:
