Rumor: Titanfall also 720p?

Well I was going to get it on PC regardless but pretty ridiculous if true. That new xbox must be really weak.

I still can't believe it. Titanfall and especially COD Ghosts not being 1080p native on new hardware releasing late 2013 for $500 is nothing short of embarrassing.

lol

Also, Killzone looks really good.

I heard not so great things about working with it which I figured, but didn't realize how bad it was. All this media flooding out now doesn't surprise me at all now.

Killzone looks so damn good... until someone begins talking.

Those facial animations; what the hell, GG?

quick Panelo! Get your geniuses who invented video games to fix this stat. I mean, there is no way your engineers could allow something like this.

I don't see why this would be an issue if the game is good. I can understand framerate making someone not what to play a game, but resolution? Still don't get it tbh. I prefer 1080p when I can get it, but 720p isn't the end of the world.

Really is shocking that games that are not pushing the boundaries graphically are still only going to be 720p in 2013-2014 from a $500 system. I am running older pc hardware at the moment and will sacrifice resolution and AA for frames but if I am paying a premium for so called top of the line equipment than you better believe I want it maxed to high heaven. Xbone is one of the priciest consoles to date and can't even do something pcs could do since I don't know how long. Embarrassing.

This is not the type of things you want to hear so close to launch, xboxone is coming across very weak in the grand scheme of things if it cant run two very average looking shooters at 1080p.

In what world do you two live in where resolution is the end all be all of graphical fidelity? It sounds like you two are equating the X1 and 360 version visuals.
Well, resolution is a large component of "graphical fidelity", especially when talking about "HD" Resolutions. While new graphical features and effects are wonderful, without the sheer pixel volume necessary to convey them, their impact can be greatly diminished.

Here we see jumps between the 720p of the Xbox One and the 1080p of the Playstation 4. Texture detail and model detail are the first obvious hits; without the pixel volume to convey them, they don't really translate in the final image. Of course, you can just ask any PC Gamer: a higher resolution yields an overall picture quality increase that's hard if not impossible to match by just moving sliders and tweaking variables.

If the Playstation 4 versions of these titles were sacrificing "graphical fidelity", such as texture and model detail, for it's higher resolution, than I'd 100% agree with you. As far as we're able to see at this point, however, there aren't any visible trade offs for that resolution gain. The Playstation 4 appears to be getting all the bells and whistles at a higher resolution. End of story. It's a pretty major deal for overall picture quality, frankly.

Because you are paying $500 for a 2013 next gen console.

It's becoming clear now why they called it xbox one and not 720 (which is what everyone called it before the reveal)

Seriously though, 720p on source engine in 2013 (2014 in my country) for 500 euros is just saaaaaaaaad.
It's like xbox 360 games would have been SD

People who are buying the Xbox One gotta let go about 1080p. It's clear that Microsoft doesn't care and didn't make the system specs to match native 1080p.

Their plan is to upscale, and they know most people won't care.

This is very true. Even Microsoft themselves admitted that they didn't target higher specs for this system, though I can honestly say that it's going to wind up biting them in the rear in the future, especially when future 3rd party games will start to get more & more demanding on the hardware & it's specs along with using some next gen engines.

Interesting what people say about it being demoed on PC's at E3, there seemed to be a lot of that going around at the various conferences.

Given the shared architectures they can basically offer playable bullshots. Demo the game at 1080p 60fps with AA on a top-tier PC and build up the hype train stall around announcing true resolution of the console version till release.

Hey at least the PC versions should be super solid.

Killzone looks so damn good... until someone begins talking.

Killzone's problem has never been the graphics. It's the gameplay that has relegated it to B-tier status. Perhaps that changes this gen. Based on the gameplay they've shown so far, doubtful. That AI is dumb.

This is less of a surprise than the COD bomb tbh :/

Seriously though, I'm not sold on Titanfall at all, but at this point I really can't see the appeal of the Xbone version. If someone wants the best version they can get, they'd get the PC version, no? If they JUST want to play the damn game they'd get the 360 version, no? I'm just not sure where that even leaves the Xbone version at all :/

Because out of both of the new underpowered consoles, the Xbone is even less powerful.

Um, how is the PS4 underpowered? Other than rumors of BF4 running at less than 1080p, there's been absolutely zero evidence of that.

High-end PC GPUs may have more raw theoretical power, but that doesn't tell the whole story.

Titanfall being 720p instead of 1080p is such a non issue lol. Still buying day 1, still gonna play the shit out of it. Just like all the games I'll be getting on XB1, PS4 and PC.

Because most console gamers don't game on PCs. Do you go into PS3/4 threads and tell them to just buy the PC versions? As for the difference between 360 and Xbox One, you're aware that even if they're the same resolution, they'll look dramatically different? And also the fact that Respawn developed one version and contracted the 360 version out to someone else.

There are a lot of other things you can do with the horsepower needed to go from 720p to 1080p, can't blame a developer for spending that budget elsewhere.

Post like this baffles my mind.

Its 2013, time to leave the cavern of 720p and enter the
4K - I wish
1080p world.

why do I have the feeling Respawn already said they were aiming for 60fps instead of res?

October 3rd, 2013: Abby Heppe, Respawn Entertainment's community manager, was talking to players about the performance of Titanfall on the X1. The game was running on a GTX770 at 60+ fps 720p+ resolution. The game will be beautiful.

In other words, 720p for Titanfall isn't news.

I would surprised at this the game looks good, but not particularly impressive compared to many other games on the way. Although, CoD being 720p would be even more bizarre...

so, you expect XB1 hardware or even PS4 hardware capable to run Titanfall 1080p@60 fps? no slowdowns? well, I guess my expectations are way lower than yours. and just in case, I'll be playing Titanfall on my PC rig, instead that on my XB1

That salt :(

And lol @ people claiming 720p is good enough, doesn't make a difference or won't be noticed.... Half the resolution and shitty scalers in most TVs will show a difference.

Fyi, the Xbone has an internal scaler (just like the 360), so you won't have to worry about relying on your TV's shitty scaler.

Eh at least the xbone is getting Titanfall.

Also if this scaler is so great why not just run all the games at 480p just like how DVD players upscale DVDs to look exactly the same as Blurays. Nobody can tell the difference anyway right?

I think good hardware GPU scalers will definitely help things along but to claim that there will be no difference between that and native 1080 is either delusion or PR damage control.

1080p @ 30fps for a new generation of consoles should be the low bar.

As you, I do play my multi plat games on the PC. Cant stand low rez games unless is the only way to play it.

Because you are paying $500 for a 2013 next gen console.

So you're telling me resolution would stop you from playing the TLOU, The Mass Effect series, The Witcher 2, [Insert critically acclaimed game here]? Like I seriously don't get it. I'd love to have 1080p but I'd rather have 60 frames per sec and if resolution is the compromise that has to be made so be it. I mean it's not like most of the people on GAF don't know the specs of the machines they're buying. If you want the absolute best graphics, you just can't get that on consoles. No game to my knowledge has ever received a bad review based on resolution.

I plan on buying TitanFall for the gameplay, not the 1080p.

Wonder if I'm in the minority when I think gameplay matters more than a slightly higher resolution? People are acting like all the sudden this game plays like crap because of this.

It makes no sense.
Pretty sure people are more baffled by how weak the XB1 seems to be, but since this is XB1 exclusive for now I'm generally apathetic, and PC was always going to show it up, even at 1080p/60FPS there's be monitors over 1080p and/or capable of displaying higher than 60 FPS so that's a fight that can only be won by actively holding back the PC version, and people can quite readily fix that as Durante proved with Dark Souls and its resolution problems.

As for game quality itself: the XB1 already put me off for many, many reasons so I'd be playing on PC anyway. Though given the release timing I'm definitely going to take the wait-and-see approach.

Titanfall doesn't even look that great, hell I bet my laptop could play that on 720p. If true, would this be the result of bad optimisation?

So you're telling me resolution would stop you from playing the TLOU, The Mass Effect series, The Witcher 2,

You are missing the point, we are asking for the new consoles to run games at 1080p.

With your logyc, might as well stick to 360s and PS3 on 720p tv sets.

A worthy 2005 setup.
