Rumor: Titanfall also 720p?

After 5 years of gloating over PS3? Naaa, it's joyous Karma

Ehh...I think it ends up hurting everyone, not just Xbox fans.

1) The baseline is lowered for multiplats, which may not directly affect the PS4 versions, but it certainly doesn't help them.

2) I imagine at some point down the road I'll pick up an XB1 for some exclusive. So it sucks for me knowing that it'll be a $300+ machine that I'll be buying only to play a few games, rather than have it as a viable alternative to the PS4.

What I don't get is why there is not a MS guy in here diffusing this?

Because it's probably true and them being here isn't going to make any difference to this conversation. You'll still have the same people saying the same things.

Nothing that they can say other than 'it's not the case, the game runs at 1080p 60fps' is going to limit any damage.

Anything else just will just written of as obsfusication, FUD, PR , Lies ,Stupidity, moneyhatting etc
The level of animosity towards Microsoft is pretty high at the moment.

I don't know if this means anything or not, but in regards to famousmortimer's comment about Activision's controlled environment for reviews, that is true. It's not made up at all.

Ive never heard of other publishers doing this, but in the past, I've been told that Activision invites the gaming press to an exclusive, all day event, with tons of flare, food, drinsk, ect. full of pretty girls and company reps. In there, you play the game for a few hours. This is the only means of playing the game. No review copies are ever sent out. The event is the only means that one has to review the game.

Without saying too much, all I will say this is in fact true because they held an event for the Quantum of Solace game years ago. I'm sure they've done it for higher profile games. Now I don't know if you're prohibited from playing other versions. The person I know told me that they were sent to play a specific version. I know which one it was, but not going to say though.

So I can't honestly say they were forced to what play only one version because of Activision.

Clearly not and we're only just beginning once there is a user base that will further make them spend resources on making better multi-platform games... it could get really ugly.

Before I used to think people trying to spin things like this as die-hard passionate fans or astroturfers (I can generally tell the difference) but now I literally just feel bad for anyone still defending it at this point.

I mean even Tim Dog is done.

PS4 exclusives will sell much better then, may even overshadow games that had the funding to make PS4 versions shine a little bit more. If Xbox one is as bad as this news would make it seem, they may just port down to it like WiiU is fed special ports.

Sony's first party is going to destroy things. I can't imagine what ND is cooking up.

Jesus... .__.

Maybe GEARNUKE was right about "Xbox One already having an answer to Nvidia G-Sync"? HA HA

By whom?

So many pc exclusive devs have jumped ship to multiplat development, hell, Crytek even does a console exclusive game. Indies don't have the manpower for big, detailed worlds unless they want to work on one game for half the gen. Lots of new franchises are f2p, aiming to include everyone and their mother's notebook as possible users.

Who's left to actually make a game for the high mid-end and high end segment in, say, 2016, unrestrained by people clinging to DX9 or console GPUs when I upgrade my pc. Who wil make next gens rig breaking, previously impossible game? More advanced SSAO, softer shadows, higher res, higher fps, pfh, I want a game that makes even Derrick stop complaining.

Someone please think of the baseline specs ;_;

People were asking this same thing back in 2008. Looking back at things like Planetside 2, Shogun 2, ArmA 3 and Battlefield 3, games built around high/mid end boxes, stuff gets developed for that demographic once it matures. If it's not done by the usual suspects like Bohemia and The Creative Assembly, it'll be done by newcomers like Cloud Imperium or Theory Interactive, or developers we haven't considered (did anybody think SOE would develop one of the most hardware intensive games of 2012?).

Right now it's hard to see because even next-gen multiplat ports will tax or satisfy mid-range PCs, like they did back in 2008 with current gen, but eventually when the hardware reaches that large enough overhead you'll have games that'll start pushing boundaries, like Planetside 2, Total War or ArmA 3 did during the back end of this generation. As it stands now even this early on we have Star Citizen pushing stuff on that front, which mirrors Crysis 1 back in 2007. Like I said before if we had asked somebody in 2008 about that happening again they would have given you a flat out 'hell no', and yet here we are.

Also no game is history will make Derrick stop complaining.

A $500 console launching in 2013 that already supposedly has several 720p games. It's seriously unbelievable.

I know the PS4 isn't a power house either, but Microsoft has done a good job of making it look that way with the Xbox One.

Makes you wonder if games like MGSV will be able to reach 1080p 60fps on the Xbone. If these few rumours turn out to be true, it definitely leaves you wondering what the future will be like for big games on the Microsoft console.

I think its just a shame for potential owners of the Xbone. The console will be around for 6 years absolute minimum, by then half of us will likely own 4k TV's and god only knows what will be possible as far as computer game experiences go. 720p doesn't really cut it for a highest end video games console releasing at the end of 2013.

Pretty much this with Ghost being 1080p@60fps i wanted an X1 now not so much anymore while Ryse looks awesome for that game alone the price point is too much.

That would be even worse than lowering the standard, for everyone. If multiplatform games were to be significantly gimped on the Xbox One, the PS4 could easily get a monopoly on the console market. Nobody wins in that situation, not even playstation owners like myself.

I think I'm going to throw up. I've been looking forward to/anticipating for the next gen Xbox for the last 3 years. So much wasted time there.

So Forza can hit 1080p60 and by all accounts look pretty glorious but two cuts of the same cloth can't break 720p60?

If you consider Forza has probably tiled engine ( in comparison to deffered like most of new games) and has static lighting (beside few dynamic lights) then 1080p@60FPS isn't really that demanding.

Part of next gen is doing most of the things in real time. Difference is that PS3/X360 games baked things looks good only in screenshots. When game plays you can often see problems created because lighting is static like spells that do not cast shadows or light (skyrim) or shadows on character clothes when they are standing in direct light.

Basically this gen was all about screenshots where next gen is all about getting this graphical quality in motion (+ton of other things and tech).

Not that interested in Titanfall, but this just means when the inevitable PS4 version hits it can be the "Ultimate 1080p GOTY" edition.

As long as it looks as good, if not better, the underlying tech isn't an issue besides a good PDF read IMO.

Maybe T10 just got to grips with, and received, the SDK a lot earlier than other devs. I mean, really, even with the Xbone's hardware alone there is no reason TF and Doges shouldn't hit 1080p60 or even go for a Ryse like 900p.

I was pretty disappointed when I finally got to play Forza 5: It doesn't look all that glorious, especially all the aliasing ruins the impression.

So to answer my own question, Titanfall is apparently a '60fps first' game.

So I assume that means 60fps on 360 too.

If the Xbox One game will be 720p, what will it have over the 360 version? I mean, the videos shown so far don't look anything beyond what 360 should be able to handle. If the difference is just something like 600p->720p...well, it's hard to believe really.

i have a real hard time believing this. I mean, the game looks nothing special. So what is the 360 version supposed to run at ? 480P ? Get outta here.

I'm not the biggest fan of Titanfall but I can't say that this is surprising to me. The trailer shows that already.. The difference is, it wasn't being picked to death like the Killzone one was, while having more time in the oven ¬_¬...

Whichever the case, it really doesn't need to be a graphically capable game especially with all the things going on in it. I feel like the game was made for PC initially but that deal with Microsoft changed things... You can tell.

I think we are overreacting when we still have so much time for improvements. It doesn't come out until March. Just let it be. Maybe it the reason why MS hasn't said anything because there's still time.

Which leads they average consumer to ask "why would I upgrade for this game, when I can get the same experience on my 360?"

It's been argued that Battlefield isn't a huge visual upgrade between the gens. I'm not sure about that, but at least it doubles the player count. What does Titanfall and COD give us?

Whether you "care" or not, it's completely unacceptable for a next gen console to not be running games at native 1080.

If all this pans out, I'm assuming they think the loss of resolution is better than loss of detail at 1080 and a more obvious visual disadvantage to the PS4.

Yep. Like Halo 5 being confirmed 60fps means the resolution may be 720p so 343 can push the graphics.

After seeing their wizardry on 4, I'm sure 343 can manage 60/1080 and keep to their vision.

This 720 thing is probably just going to be seen on multiplat games.

This is actually perfect since that's exactly what happened

mortimer was all "I have to confirm a source"; he never could. Two other insiders decide to confirm it out loud. Then Albert posts in that topic; then cboat rebuffs him. Now this Titanfall news is all over the place

this could not have worked out more poorly for the good people who just want to get the Xbox One out launched already without any more issues...

Could you link me that post please.

iirc I read somewhere that respwan choose their tech so they could push 720p on the PS3.
(and then they decided not to do any ps3)

it will be funny as hell if they finally use this chosen tech to display 720p, but not on ps3 but on xbone.

Already seeing 720 confirmed on Microsoft exclusives like Killer instinct and powerstar golf

Shit you're right. Although EG's (lol) article on H5 does say 1080p60 in the title ¬¬

That was the same day they wrote the Killer instinct and Ryse are 1080p articles too right?
