[Rumour] Retro not working on DK or Metroid, 2017 Release

I would like a third DK game as well. I mean do they really need an entire team working on a 2D platformer? I think a smaller team should continue working on DK and a bigger team on a more ambitious project.

Not working on Metroid in general or Prime? Because I'd love to see a 2D Metroid from them.

If not, then I'm sure it's a new IP. There isn't a (high profile) Nintendo IP there that I can see them working on. Definitely not Mario or Zelda, and seeing as how apparently Metroid and DK are off the table, I don't see other candidates. I don't see them making Star Fox, Kirby, etc.
 
Didn´t someone said, that it will be game with a witch? I just hope it is an Action Adventure game or some sort of and not a 2d jump-run.

I need a Game where I can use awesome spells. Especially after I saw the KH 0.2 Aqua footage.
 
There has been rumors forever regarding Retro's game:

- they are making a more mature Zelda
- they are making Diddy Kong racing 2
- they are making Metroid
- they are making Ravenblade
- they are making making Startropics
- they are using the Bayou Billy character and.creating a new game.
- they are making enternal darkness
- they bringing back Nintendo sports division
- they are making an western rpg

All these rumors are silly, we will find out soon enough. Personally I think that they should create a esports title or a more mature title. But I don't have a vote.
 
Im SO glad it's not metroid, just out of how toxic metroid fans in here are.

I hope for new IP, didn't they had long ago a promising looking WRPG pitch that never came out?

What holes does Nintendo have in it's catalog that Retro could help to fill?
The only thing I can come up with is Western RPG and FPS. Both of which
I think Retro could handle and would love to see them tackle.
 
Guys, I think you really need to temper your expectations in terms of "Retro's new IP".

Chris FOM's "they all say that Emily Rogers has no idea what she's talking about" comment makes me believe that Retro is indeed working on either DKC or Metroid Prime, contrary to Emily's sources. If I was a betting man I'd go with DKC, but I think there's a chance it could be Metroid Prime 4, as a way for Nintendo to gain goodwill back with Metroid fans and general core gamers.

I would also accept F-Zero or Custom Robo or Zelda Spin-off or something crazy like Golden Sun or Advance Wars.

I'd be pretty surprised if they went with DKC again. That last one didn't exactly light the world on fire in any respect. I'd think Nintendo would wanna go in a different direction if only to further move away from what they did on Wii U.

Anyways, this thread has run it's course when even the source is saying not to trust it lol.

To be fair, Smash is gonna run out of notable franchises to add once they represent Splatoon, Rhythm Heaven, & Mysterious Murasame Castle.

But even then, all Emily said is that it's not Metroid or DK.
 
I look forward to learning about what it is. Retro tends to develop on a three year cycle, and Tropical Freeze hit in early 2014.

I still hope someone is working on a new 2D Metroid. And Metroid Prime 4K.

Perhaps Retro is the studio developing Yoshi's Story X Rabbids with Ubisoft. Hand-drawn visuals.
 
I feel really confident there's another Metroid in development. If Retro isn't doing MP4, then it's either a 2D game or a new take. The response to Federation Force didn't fall on deaf ears.

If that's the case & a new Metroid is happening, it won't be from Retro Studios if Emily Rogers is on the money.

I'm getting the impression that few are taking notice of Emily Rogers herself saying not to put stock into this rumor, as posted above and on the previous page.
 
I would love for them to make a new DK Game with things like old animal buddies and King K. Rool, preferably in 3D. I think a 3D Retro DK game has a lot of potential. Just think about how dynamic their DK games are -- and that's just in 2D. The DK games have never properly translated into 3D before. There's only been one "attempt" and that "attempt" deserves the quotes around the word. Regardless, I am looking forward to their new game. Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be great.

As a side note I hope Next Level has something in development that properly utilises their talent.
 
I don't know why so many Western fans want StarTropics to be rebooted - maybe just to feel a bit more important because Nintendo catered to them again?

It would take tremendous effort to modernize that IP, and, unlike Kid Icarus, it isn't even particularly distinctive or interesting. Even something like Mach Rider or Devil's World would be better to be dug up from their graves.
 
The Switch presentation has come and gone and we STILL don't know what they're working on. When are we going to get a glimpse of their new game!? Surely we'll find out at E3? By then it'll have been 3 years (!) and 4 months since Tropical Freeze was released.

Yeah, could be. Who knows, really? For all we know, the project they have been working on could have been cancelled at some point and they started a new one, meaning that it could be still a ways off. As I said already, who knows?

I reckon it'll just be whenever suits Nintendo and they'll hold a direct. I doubt they keep anything for e3 specifically now, my guess is their plan would be to hold a big Mario odyssey event like Zelda last year and stream known stuff on treehouse, maybe a smaller game or two announced. Would love to be wrong about that but just judging how they announce things these days.
 
A new IP sounds great, but I really want a new Metroid game though. Anything this year would be grand after Zelda there is nothing else this year except Mario. I am diving in with the Switch and relly want some games to play...

The rumor is Metroid is being made. And another rumor said it's being made by someone you wouldn't have guessed.
