Rune Factory 4 |OT|

Man, RF and HM bachelors always look like shit. And the one guy that DIDN'T look like a kid/woman/rabbit wasn't even romanceable:

:'(

Same could be said for the ladies. Although RF is more offensive in this regard.

I just don't see this at all. It doesn't look like the greatest thing ever, but I think it looks better than RF3 at least.

RF4 runs at 60 fps doesn't it? I swear I read that somewhere and if it does I'm definitely fine with the graphics for a smooth framerate.

I'm glad it looks like it's taking strong influences from RF3, in my opinion that was probably the strongest all-around of the entire series.

If RFF hadn't had those damned Runeys, it would take the crown...

that would be excellent. the most recent HM game for 3ds has a HORRID framerate.

If anything, it's proof that fun games can be made without the developers killing themselves with the visuals, which fits in line with how Nintendo currently feels about games and how other games on the 3DS are. I don't mind if RF remains a bastion of prerendering.

I loved ToD. I can understand why it was not as loved because different people enjoy different things about this series.

It's actually hard to go back to RFF's loading times after playing ToD too! The cutscenes between friendship levels are a nice treat in ToD as well. The dungeons though, were totally bland, at least the bosses were pure comedy though. If the game went for a bigger scope and missed the mark, affecting other aspects as well, at least they made the social aspect entertaining, which is why I say it can be enjoyed as a cartoon can be enjoyed. I prefer the smaller but densely packed Rune Factory Frontier. The dungeons were satisfying in RFF, though RF3 was satisfying in many ways, the dungeons were so short and not challenging enough. But RF3 just felt polished overall and I'm hoping that RF4 is an extension of RF3 but with more content, better dungeons, etc.

I was also a little disappointed that there are only 6 bachlorettes, but I'm fine with it if it means ladies get to enjoy the series that much more!

I think this is what I read. Can anyone confirm if it runs at 60fps?

Wanted to include a 60FPS frame rate. This way each press of the button smoothly elicits an action from the character onscreen, leaving the player with a satisfied feeling.

Memories of Sofia (3) are coming back to me…

IIRC, if you were playing as her in multi, a super fail would heal her. (Contrast everyone else—I used this to my advantage once by throwing a super fail at my "friend" which killed him, stealing the levelizer that just dropped in front of him, then healing him up again.)

Really? I actually love the visuals. I'll always have such a soft spot for pre-renders. Do you not like Bravely Default's visual style either?

Not as far as I know, but from what I've heard the voice acting sounds pretty nice.

I expected as much but, that's still disappointing. Won't influence my buying decision at all (pre-ordered months ago) but, still...

Harem route?

Also, this.

i dont know, can't think of any 3ds game made by nintendo that makes me think "huh this could be done on ds".

The visuals don't bug me, to me it's pretty clear this started out as a DS game. The thing is when I get knee deep obsessed with these games, visuals become rather trivial.

Coincidentally, the people at XSEED must have known Oct 1st was also my birthday. Turning the big three zero tomorrow so hopefully someone from my family gets it for me!

Usually don't complain about this but this is quite possibly the worst release date I have ever seen. :/

I don't think it started out as a DS game. When you look at the in-game models up close, they look better than anything the DS pumped out.

I just think that they're using a lot of the assets and monster models from RF3.

Whoops, I'd better pick this up in the next week, I almost forgot about it. Less romance options will be a better thing I think, maybe the characters will be more fleshed out as a result.

We need a OT title though, maybe a mod could step in?

That's a problem for me, particularly. I mean, they didn't even tweak the icons to make them a bit more fleshed out. Although I don't think the RF team is lazy, I feel they could have tried to explore a bit more of the 3DS hardware, because I honestly feel this game is not too far from a DS game.

pfff fanboy name to shame. you should buy a copy for each waifu/husbando.

also happy early bday :)

I don't mind the visuals as long as this gets me 60fps with nearly instant screen transitions.

It's hard to tell from video, but did they ever fix the weird character rigging issue of where everyone looks like apes? I remember that being kinda goofy in 1.

NSMB2? :p I guess I've been so focused on WiiU graphics complaints (DKCTF, uprezzed Wii title?!?) that I haven't really checked out much on the 3DS to be honest, either that or since I just got into the RF series I've been so used to DS graphics that I'm okay with "little jumps" in graphics :) But yeah, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon doesn't look like it could be on the DS.

If they don't do another console title, then hopefully RFF level graphics can be tried again on future handhelds. RF4 sold pretty well in Japan so perhaps they have the greenlight to get a little more ambitious/impressive when they make the next RF game. But I'm glad that MAQL's expectations can be met without bloated budgets and huge teams of people.

Oh yeah, if this is like RF3 then can we expect seeds to cover only one square, and weeds to pop up as you're farming, and having to balance between multiple fields?

Rune Factory is one of the greatest RPG series ever...right up there with Persona 3 + 4.

I already own and played the Japanese version, but I'll get it again just because I love this game so damn much.

In my experience, they never, ever stock HM/RF games unless you preorder them. YMMV obviously but I've been dealing with this with basically every title since 2006.

I don't know, I was at an out of town Supercenter WalMart a few weeks ago and they still had Muramasa the Demon Blade for the Wii (and they still charge full price for Sin and Punishment 2 and Other M...). I've seen niche titles at Supercenter Walmarts though, same for Vita titles and newer WiiU titles like Splinter Cell, so I think they consolidate the slower sellers at stores with higher foot traffic, makes sense though, if only there were Supercenters in my town though.

^ Back in the DS days my brother would import both copies of the Pokemon games, then get both of the English games! Too bad about region locking for the 3DS though, coupled with the simulatenous worldwide release of X and Y. End of an era for him :p

I really can't recommend this game enough. It's so much fun, and there is SO much content in it, that it'll last you a really long time.

I'll be going for Arthur again for my main file, and Xiao Pai for my Lest file.

From my experience, there is a bit of a slowdown when there are a lot of characters on screen (like in Selphia plaza for festival days), but it's definitely not as bad as RF3.

Mildly interested because I heard good things about the DS version, but this is coming at the worst possible time for me.

Really? Do you live in a bigger city? I bought my new copy of Rune Factory 3 at a Game Stop last year.

Bills mean this one has to wait...but it's on my wanted list. I still need to finish Frontier too, but I enjoy the series a lot.

I'm new to the series and thinking about jumping on with this game tomorrow. Good idea?

Great idea. This one is looking like it'll be a great one to start with. They're my exactly to most complicated games ever either and it should feature a tutorial.

Agreed. This game is MORE than worth your $40.

Why no Wii version D:. Recently finished Tides of Destiny and had plenty of fun.

Bleh... Tides of Destiny... I'm glad they upgraded the combat system, but it came at the cost of completely neutering the farming aspect. Don't bring such bad luck onto this game!

Hope you guys have fun with it. It's looking like a really good game.

I'll look forward to playing it in 2014/2015 when it finally comes out over here.
