Apparently some guy took this snapshot as they were boxing up stuff to head to comicon. If they are indeed keeping the logo classic, and this is legit, things are looking up...

lol Did that happen recently? I remember hearing Zach whatits being the director, but I assume they brought Nolan in to make sure it's not a mess again.

Nolan and his brother came up with the story, then they took it to WB and hired Snyder afterward.

I could have sworn that Nola was involved with the project since its inception.

Scariest prospect about this movie is Goyer writing the script on his own. I hate that Snyder is directing but at least Snyder can make a decent action movie (even if they're dumb), but Goyer... It's his job to turn that dumb action movie into a smart one and there's no way he can do it. Guy is riding on the coat tails/success of Nolan Brothers so fucking hard.
I loved his work on the JSA comic series a few years back. Though it's hard to know how much of that was him and how much was Geoff Johns.

On the other hand, he also wrote that stupid ass story about Superman renouncing his US citizenship in Action Comics a couple months back.

Crowe has got many great performances during his career. Insider, Gladiator, LA Confidential, Master&Commander etc, and he's never really anything less than "very good" in any of his movies.

I probably wouldn't put him on Brando's level, but what currently active (or even living) actor is on Brando's level? Crowe is definitely one of the best actors of the last 10-15 years.
Well you obviously haven't seen Breaking Up, No Way back or Rough Magic.

I honestly don't know how we have people hating on Crowe as an actor. Unless the only movie you've seen with him is Virtuosity, then I guess I understand.

Well that's promising. If he keeps the reins on Synder it should be fine. No offense, I like him but we've what happens if he gets full control.

EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros and Zack Snyder are in talks with Julia Ormond to play Superman's Kryptonian mother, Lara Lor-Van, in Man of Steel. I expect the deal to make shortly. Russell Crowe has been offered the role of Jor-El, the father of Superman (Henry Cavill). Kevin Costner and Diane Lane were previously set to play Clark Kent's Earthbound parents. This comes after Ormond completed the role of Vivian Leigh in the Simon Curtis-directed My Week With Marilyn, which stars Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, Dominic Cooper and Kenneth Branagh. Ormond's repped by Gersh and Artists Independent.

Julia Ormond is a fine choice, but that pic^ is little missleading [makeup, hair, etc]. Here is more recognizable pic of her.

I have no idea why people even mention Brando in connection with Superman. Didn't he just show up, fail to memorize his lines and then proceed collect a fat paycheck?

I enjoyed his performance, even if he expected to be paid too much. Seeing his scenes in the restored version of Superman II was a small surprise for me. :p

The same could almost apply to Gene Hackman, half of his scenes weren't even him. :p

Speaking of Superman actors, both Lara and Perry White from the original movie (Susannah York and Jackie Cooper, respectively) died earlier this year.

Russell "The Gladiator" Crowe playing Jor-El in the remake of Superman? I am now actually excited about this reboot.

How can you destroy something that's already in rubble.

Got any links? I wanna find out about this Gene Hackman thing and Brandos plot suggestions

I remember hearing about these on a TV show, but there'll be links out there

When he was first approached about playing the role of Superman's father (Jor-El) in the screen adaptation of the comic book classic, he was remarkably enthusiastic. In fact, he had several ideas of his own. For example, because he was an alien living on another planet, Superman's father could look like anything: "What if," Brando asked the film's producers, "he was a giant bagel?"

Brando also suggested playing Jor-El as "a green suitcase." Though the producers humored the eccentric star, it was agreed that Superman's father should resemble a human being

this film and cinderalla man pretty much convinced me that he is one of the most gifted actors of this generation.

lol it's always the great ones that are insane.

I heard a rumour, that Brando only agreed to do the film 'The Score' with De Niro and Norton on the condition he would never wear trousers on set. They obliged, and all his scenes had to be filmed from the waist up. If thats true, i love Brando even more.

yeah The Insider is Crowe's masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. Also despite everybody's misgivings with Ron Howard, both films with him and Crowe also garnered some of his best performances (and yeah Cinderella Man was a better film than The Fighter, too bad it was overshadowed by his crazy phone slinging antics)

edit: lolwat at no pants Brando

Been waiting for a new Superman movie. This one is sounding better and better. Not to mention, having Nolan in the mix for it should be interesting.

Crowe is by far my favourite actor, but his standout performance is A Beautiful Mind. The only reason he didnt get the back to back Oscar was cos he pissed off some assholes at the academy. Fuckin Denzel in Training Day. What the fuck.

denzel was pretty incredible in training day. but an out of control hothead cop doesn't seem like that hard of a role to play.. then again my acting experience ends with playing young scrooge in my 6th grade production of a christmas carol. i totally owned that role.

master and commander made that period in history live for me. amazing film. we really are pussies compared to our ancestors.

but gladiator isn't good? dam, i loved that movie.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Gladiator was average in terms of plot and dialogue (everyone talks like they were quoting from a Shakespearean play). But it was very pretty at times (opening scene is so awesome) and more importantly it was extremely entertaining.
