I started trying to bold the craziest bits before realising I'd bolded the entire thing.

A new Russian reality show where crimes are “allowed” will begin next year.

Game2: Winter will strand 30 contestants in the -40F (-40C) Siberian wilderness for nine months with the surviving winner receiving a $1.6m prize. It will stream 24/7 online.

“Each contestant gives consent that they could be maimed, even killed,” reads an advert. “2000 cameras, 900 hectares and 30 lives. Everything is allowed. Fighting, alcohol, murder, rape, smoking, anything.”

Contestants will each sign a waiver acknowledging that they might be raped or killed but the rules also state that police are free to arrest anyone who commits a crime on the show. “You must understand that the police will come and take you away,” the rules state. “We are on the territory of Russia, and obey the laws of the Russian Federation.”

Contestants will be placed in a landscape where bears and wolves are likely to be living. According to the Siberian Times, knives will be allowed yet guns are forbidden. The show is the brainchild of entrepreneur Yevgeny Pyatkovsky who says he “will refuse any claim of participants even if they were to be killed or raped”.

There won’t be a crew but rather 2,000 cameras dotted around the area. Each contestant will also have their own personal recording device. Willing participants need to be 18 and “mentally sane” to compete.

“The show promises to be international,” Pyatkovsky said. “Five countries have already expressed the desire to broadcast it for their audiences.”

He claims that 60 people have already applied, including one American.

I guess this completes our journey into an 80's sci-fi dystopia now?

Last I checked Siberia was still in Russia, where they (nominally) have laws against such things. Why would anybody be willing to subject themselves to prison, this is like saying you can murder and rape anybody as you go about your business in town.

In case it wasn't clear to anyone who read the OP:

Contestants sign waiver acknowledging they may not survive nine-month Siberian wilderness challenge, and if crimes are committed, they will be arrested

I would watch it
Edit: not because I want to see someone get raped!
The survival part sounds interesting. Don't really care if someone gets killed though. I mean they know it is dangerous and they still signed up for it

I feel like this is one else of those stories that will turn out to be fake, but no one will notice when the correction comes.

This is acknowledged in the OP's excerpt. These waivers are just an attempt by those producing this show to avoid liability I'm guessing.

Yeah, it reads funny, but not gonna happen. "You can do these things, but you'll get arrested!"

and Hunger Games only works in fiction. In reality it'd be boring as crap to watch

It's just a marketing ploy (which seems like it's working.) Sure, the rules of the game don't explicitly forbid murder... but the actual law definitely still does. See the part about the police being free to arrest contestants.

Lol what? "You're allowed to rape and kill here guys; but be warned you'll get arrested."

So in other words, its not allowed?

Yeah, as shitty as it is to potentially die in this Shadow the Hedgehog live action adaptation, what the fuck is the point in winning that way if you're going to be prosecuted and stripped of the prize?

I mean...they don't really allow it any moreso than any other reality tv show.

Yeah on the Real World show they can fight each other in a drunken stupor but the cops will still arrest their asses. The only difference here is that the Russian reality show will keep the cameras rolling even when shit gets bad.

Title gave me the impression that Russian police were ok with that stuff happening and clearly they are not.

Note I don't approve of any of this and think its sick.

But their misdeeds will be recorded. This is no different to how people generally conduct themselves as they go about their lives. They're not going to murder somebody, because then they will go to jail.

30 contestants sign up to survive in the wilderness for 9 months, people watch expecting murder, rape, etc. What they actually get are 30 people being really fucking cold and probably dying of hypothermia at worst, just kinda struggling to get by and not interacting beyond small groups at best.

This sounds like a publicity stunt than anything to get prospective eyes on this.

I feel like this is one else of those stories that will turn out to be fake, but no one will notice when the correction comes.

The source is from Siberian Times and I have severe doubts they're a credible source.

Yeah this doesn't make any sense. So you can do it, but you'll receive the same punishment if you did it anywhere.

Ok.
If you do it where the cameras can't see you... But I'm assuming police will still investigate it as an actual crime scene and if your stupid enough to go on this show youre stupid enough to leave evidence.
