Sabrent Crushes Samsung At Their Own Game: Builds World's Fastest M.2 SSD

Awesome, how much for the ssd ..... and the system to put it in?

The thirst to prove the PC has better SSD isn't from PC players ....... we aren't that insecure.

We know who is.

"Crushes the PS5 SSD" Put that in your PC and see what is the real speed of your rig...And then find games that utilise it...
Exactly you'll need a new rig and also wait for the next gen games made for consoles that are made to use the SSD.
So maybe instead of crushing it it is looking forward to it

Alt title: Sabrent releases possible PS5 Expansion SSD
Came here to say that. Nice piece of kit however my ~5GB/s 1TB SSD cost me more than 600USD, I think I am fine for a long time. Shame that now it's like 1/3 of the price : D

So what?

Why this need to prove that the SSD for the PS5 isn't 'the fastest in the world'?

Console gamers are getting a piece of tech match and rival the PC hardcore crowd, we should be celebrating. This hasn't happened since the launch of the 360, 15 years ago!

So fuck off.

Have a 3.0 sabrent nvme and it's performed great so far. Their drives are also more reasonably priced than the competition so this might well be my next drive.

Also, that's now 2 drives that will be compatible with the PS5.

yaaaaaay! a modular pc system, that can constantly be upgraded, has beaten a closed system within a console

where we sending the medal?

Lol cerny is counting for these to come out. U need minimum 7 gb/s to keep up with 5.5 gb/s of sony with 6 priority levels . If they don't come out sony is screwed .

There are many companies chomping at the bit to make their own PS5 compatible SSD's and fast. Think about how many they could sell to gamers.

So, this will probably be compatible with my PS5 for PS5 games, if it doesn't have a crazy big heatsink.

Why are these threads about "beating" the drive in the PS5 when these drives are the only thing that might be able to run PS5 games at the same speeds as the internal drive?

I would be interested to see what kind of heat this thing is going to kick out. I own the 2Tb Gen4 5 Gbs and it can hit around 56c every once in a while. Also the 2Tb 5 Gbs still goes for 400 bucks.

Im guessing when SSDs become available that take advantage of PCIE 5.0 is when prices will really fall and capacity will increase for NMVE drives fast enough for the PS5. Thats when things will really take off.

"The drive also comes with a huge chunky cooler that uses tons of aluminum and three thick copper heat coils."

Well, fuck...

It doesn't work like that and it will be useless for the time being. I have a 970 Evo Plus NVME SSD which is 3.5GBs and in comparison to a cheap "slow" SSD I'm lucky to speed things up by more than a few seconds in anything other than file copying/moving. PC architecture and software does not take advantage of all that extra speed at the moment.

Complete waste of money right now. This SSD will be "crushed" by the speed of the PS5.

Latency latency latency that's where PS5 really focuses on.
More like "direct access", which is not really doable at this point on PC, wonder what that Direct X Velocity Architecture is going to do. You know the decompression is still the issue.

"The drive also comes with a huge chunky cooler that uses tons of aluminum and three thick copper heat coils."

Well, fuck...
That to be expected, I have this (it has back plate):
ImgW.ashx

And it still gets really hot.

I'd like to see benchmarks for copying/reading large files of PS5 SSD vs this Rocket NVMe 4.0 SSD.
While theoretical read/write speeds are higher, it doesn't have the full improved I/O stack PS5 has.
I'm curious how big an effect the entire stack has.

Just like Mark Cerny said, by the end of the year we should see SSDs that saturate PCIE 4.0. The more competition, the lower the price i hope. PS5 expansion choice is getting interesting.

So this is the first possible SSD that can pass PS5 certification.
Nice.

BTW all big brands will launch 7GB/s SSDs before year ends.

Edit -

"The drive also comes with a huge chunky cooler that uses tons of aluminum and three thick copper heat coils."

Well, fuck...
So... not for PS5 lol

I hate to break it down to you, but it's not just about the SSD.
The way you phrased the thread would imply that Sony actually created the SSD itself.
The SSD is not made by Sony themselves, what's being researcehd through R&D first and foremost is the complete I/O system as a holistic system and the way the SSD is interacting within the System. In particular, the de-bottlenecking of data transfer, reading and writing speed on all channels is what they achieved not the SSD itself being fast.

It is really astonishing how often this is being challenged the wrong way..
Your depiction goes a little bit in the direction of what Linus had misinterpreted about the "Power of Sony's SSD solution"...maybe you give it a watch.

You forgot to consider our dedicated IO silicon.
This is not even our final form. You have no chance, kiddo.
If our games arrive on Steam in 2024 you will get a bit of power too.
Enjoy mate.

Yes its does, but only a PS5 is designed around taking full advantage of it funny enough.
Cerny said we should start seeing them around now to end of year, dude is always right it seems.

If only there was a way to insert this drive into a PS5 then we could save the PS5 from being crushed by the blazing fast 7GB/s

Sabrent Crushes Samsung At Their Own Game: Builds World's Fastest M.2 SSD
That's not what their title says. I smell fanboy.
Came in expecting a Linus Tech Tips vid, left disappointed.

What a thread title :D You cant make this shit up. I bet OP is just a gamer who loves good games, innovation and is not hating a particular brand.

Sabrent is selling their "Rocket PCI-e 4.0 1TB without a heatsink" M2 SSD for around 189 euro in the Netherlands. If this faster M2 SSD is priced similarly - and compatitble with the PS5" it sounds like a good alternative to the announced Samsung SSD that's probably gonna be more expensive.

That's exactly what Cerny predicted in the road to ps5 conference though. he said by the end of the year, 7 GBps ssds will be out on the market.

he also said that you will need these faster 7 GBps ssds to make up for the 6 priority levels in the PS5 ssd.

So essentially, this is on par with the PS5 ssd. But nice try.

Fuck you Samsung!
Never paying an arm and leg for an SSD from these skates.

Thank fuck Sabrent are pushing out a highspeed Phison E18 early.
Adata shouldnt be too far behind with a drive atleast at Samsung speeds.

Not sure why OP decided to twist the headline into a PS5 title....but whatever.

A 20gig ssd still wouldn't be on par with the ps5 on pc until pc's are able to get decompressed data into ram without syphoning it, bouncing it on its knees, and gurgling 10 times.
