I remember posting a pic like this a day or 2 after the saddam statue pull downs and saying that the people pulling the statues down were ahmed chalibis men and the whole thing was managed by the army... people laughed and whatever...well... OWNED:

YAHOO NEWS: ARMY STAGE MANAGED FALL OF SADDAM STATUE

There were U.S. tanks all over the city as it had just been invaded. A bunch of guys wouldn't have the strength to pull down a huge, 4 ton statue, so of course they needed some kind of help.

Read the article folks. The point wasnt whether the US army HELPED pull down the statue, but that they INSTIGATED the whole thing.

After the colonel — who was not named in the report — selected the statue as a "target of opportunity," the psychological team used loudspeakers to encourage Iraqi civilians to assist, according to an account by a unit member.

Ultimately, a Marine recovery vehicle toppled the statue with a chain, but the effort appeared to be Iraqi-inspired because the psychological team had managed to pack the vehicle with cheering Iraqi children.

So it was Iraqis being recruited to "help out" in a photoshoot with the American soldiers, not soldiers assisting Iraqis who were trying to pull down the statue.

I was amused at the part where the troops put a U.S. flag over the statue at first, before seeing the Iraqis weren't reacting too well to that. A classic example of the arrogance and naivete that Americans have unfortunately shown in Iraq at times.

i remember the US truck pulling the statue down, but i also remember Iraqis trying to smash the concrete base on the thing for some time prior to the US help.
