IGN, “Games Industry Criticizes Bungie Management, CEO Pete Parsons in Wake of Layoffs: 'Inexcusable'”

So entire 17% of the staff were just bad employees and bloat ?

Doesn't matter if it is true or false ( probability wise, they were decent at their jobs ), blame is still on management.
Even if its hiring practice or unable to make good use of money and skill of people in the right direction.

To be honest, based on your reaction spamming and comment in the thread about the Bungie director enjoying his spoils how he sees fit I'd say you're a long lost resetera lamb.

Don't feel bad for me, feel bad for your attitude towards the world.
If you could read, you would know I wrote I'm against communism in that comment. I think I still feel bad for you. Please stop embarrasing yourself, it really is hard to read.

You can be against communism while still being anti-capitalist. Based on your reaction to his purchases you're socialist, which is resetera in a nutshell. So naturally, it would make sense that you can't fathom what someone actually working their arse off looks like (which isn't her) and that you would leap to the defence of someone who is delusional enough to believe nobody else but her can do the job she was employed to do.

If it's all hard for you to read, don't read it, nobody is forcing you to. No need for you to be a victim as well.

“I’m obsessed with work”

How sad
Some people have jobs doing things that they absolutely love to do and are personally fulfilled beyond a paycheck. Sounds like this person was one of them, so I don't hold that part against her. Now she'll probably have to get a job she hates and only be able to do what she really loves after work. I find that more sad.

Your original post in this thread must be one of the most delusional takes I have ever seen on this forum and that is saying something.

Did you ever interact with SenjutsuSage SenjutsuSage ? I interacted with SenjutsuSage SenjutsuSage .

Cringe Reaction GIF

the quotes in the op seem to indicate that 'the game industry' apparently consists of former bungie employees. wouldn't 'former bungie employees criticize 'bungie management' be a little more accurate, title-wise?...

So tired of this mindset. When I worked in Ireland, we would have 2-hour lunches regularly. No one got fired or laid off. Glorifying working 10 hours a day with no break is retarded.

I haven't suggested that it should be expected for people to not take lunch breaks etc. Nothing wrong with taking the breaks that are afforded to you (or that you might have the luxury of having dependant on your work load).

However normally people who are able to take extended breaks don't claim to be working flat out (or words to that effect).

A simple "I got laid off, it sucks" would have sufficed rather than the "omg how dare they, I literally worked so much and nobody else can do what I did" bullshit that we've read. There's a lack of perspective and honesty from these people.

I see the corporate dick sucking on this forum hasn’t abated much.

Cunt CEO makes terrible business decisions leading to hundreds of people losing their jobs, while he profits.

There's literally a person that was promoted a month ago and now was fired. If that doesn't scream "bad management" to you i don't know what will.
Maybe that person did well their job and got promoted by the direct manager within the budget they had.

But then days/weeks later they get an order from the CFO saying that the company has to reduce the salary costs in certain percentage, meaning they have to get rid of certain amount of people.

So they move some people to other SIE studios and the people who doesn't reach the quality/productivity line gets fired. Maybe that recently promoted was good enough to be promoted but not enough to pass that line.

She specifically mentioned weekends and holidays. Not working 16 hours a day.

Yup... totally not unhinged behavior. I would not hire any of those people whining on Twitter right now. They would be bad news for any future employer.

Thats a gold medal winner right there.

Out of all the wacky video game employees going mental on social media, it's not too often (none that I remember) of someone calling another the c-word. lol

And those people get made redundant every day and find a new job if their skills are in demand.

The job market is dogshit at the minute and will probably only get more difficult with the rise of AI taking away jobs that can be easily automated. Automation has been doing it for a while anyway.

What I take umbrage with is that she’s going on to Twitter to tell everyone how hard a worker she is and this isn’t fair and how obsessed with work she is.

She’s obviously never been made redundant before, I have and as soon as I was, I stopped buying in to the bullshit. “We’re all a big family here” “we’ve got each others backs”

Make no doubt about it that if you work for a corporation or big company that you are simply just a number and a gear in the machine. You’re a number to them, it’s simply just business so don’t get too emotional about it and don’t fall in to that trap again.

Or set up your own business if you love it so much.

Worked 8 years at a job promoted twice was making 220k a year, hit all financial goals I was tasked with.

Got laid off due by someone with less than 6 months of experience in the industry who somehow was above me 😂😂😂.

Didnt go on twitter and whine. Thanked the company for the opportunity, went to work at another spot making more money, and when my previous employer called to try to get me back it was “nah i’m good”.

Success is always the greatest revenge.

Man, could you stop assuming random shit about everyone? I'm not a socialist, I have never even been to resetera or whatever.

Also, it's funny to read something about hard work from a weirdo who has over 40 000 posts on this forum since 2006. How do you even find time for that? Have you ever tried doing something productive in your life?

I've managed people for years, you don't get rid of the good ones. Everyone believes they are a hard worker and can't be replaced. The latter is never true.

There is a reason why these people were picked.
I don't want to believe this to be true but I've seen it firsthand so many times. Whenever 10-20% of a company gets laid off, it's usually under performers or people who don't contribute directly to the bottom line. Before you take any corporate job, be sure to ask in an interview how this role directly contributes to the bottom line. If you're not responsible for some critical process on the path to revenue recognition or making budgeted EBITDA, you're easily disposable.

No assumptions, the following is a socialist attitude:

I feel like greedy assholes like this who just have no self-restraint and are completely out of touch with reality will be the reason more and more people are going to turn more towards communism, which is really unfortunate and dangerous.

Nothing he has done is illegal and it shouldn't be. Still, I would expect people like him to know better under those circumstances. By the way, his Twitter profile description says: "be brave, be kind. f- racism and social injustice". I'm dead.

Like I said, resetera in a nutshell. Please tell us, what else should he be doing with his money other than enjoying it?

Also, it's funny to read something about hard work from a weirdo who has over 40 000 posts on this forum since 2006. How do you even find time for that? Have you ever tried doing something productive in your life?

It might surprise you, but it's possible to do both.

The trick is to get other people (or things as it is now) to do the heavy lifting for you and then profit from it. Something you clearly don't understand, hence your bitterness towards those who earn large amounts of money and spend it as they see fit.

I wonder how many of these layoffs are focusing on the people who made the saint 14 Osiris gay love story be in every new repeatable mission in final shape?

Like final shape is some of the best playing destiny I’ve had in years but god damn the narrative is atrocious and annoying. In a game where there is zero romantic connections we have this laughable gay love story that is brought up over and over and over again. Those people deserve to be fired that made that choice. So bad/cringe.

What about it is socialist attitude? You don't even know what you're talking about. Oh, but it isn't possible to be a hard worker when you prepare matchas at launch day? What a retard.

Why don't you try answering the question I posed and we can go from there?:

Please tell us, what else should he be doing with his money other than enjoying it?

It might even help you come to some self-realisations. In addition, why is he "greedy" and what is the alternative?

You don't even know what you're talking about. Oh, but it isn't possible to be a hard worker when you prepare matchas at launch day? What a retard.

Only a retard would believe:

A) everything these dramatic clowns say
B) that "working hard" automatically means that it is unjust for you to get laid off or fired
C) that "working hard" is the same as "working so much" or being "flat out" (or words to similar effect).

It’s common sense, which you lack. My emojis? I’m laughing at your dumb shit as usual.

Anyone busting their ass off at work do not have the time to drive home to cook a “divine meal”.
It may be "common" to make conjectural assertions and pretend to know the inner workings of a situation that you aren't privy to, but don't conflate that with good "sense". It's by definition "irrational".

This thread is f*cking odd, so far I have learned that Bungie let go off 17% of their staff and learned that if you eat it means that you don’t work hard, if you work hard you can only eat store bought sandwiches, best to do that as soon as you get them so you are no wasting time, or if you are really hard working person you should not eat at all. That last bit is sarcastic.

I could be misunderstood something but didn't IGN themselves own game studio but they closed it off recently? Do they have the right criticize others?

Not sure if they had a gaming studio, or if they shut it down, but there is so many things from the way you fire people, reasons behind, how upper management behaved etc. that should not automatically mean that you have no right to criticise others if what they doing and way they doing it is a bit distasteful.

in addition, I am sure that IGN is letting go/rotating lots of journalists jobs on regular basis, but they are a news outlet talking about gaming industry (with maybe 1-2 good writers/s) so they should provide the news, but some contributors view points are also interesting to see.

Bungie played the social media game with the LGBT and the DEI posts.
did you think to you that this person was instructed to make these posts to create the image of a cozy workplace and earn social media points for Bungie?

A few posts on Twitter don't say much about being a hard worker or not They only tell me she is a pretentious social medial user like so many others out there.
The real topic is the reaction after getting fired which is unprofessional and the CEOs money and cars have nothing to do with her losing her job.
If you get fired, be professional and don't go emotional on social media, it will only damage your career.

I have to admit I had no idea that Bungie was so big. Someone in this thread said 1200 employees. If that’s the case it’s shocking to me the wheels did not come off sooner.

Treyarch and Infinity Ward both have less than 700 employees.

I don’t follow Bungie but had they officially announced a release date for a new game?

Man, lionizing the idea of 'working flat out' really needs to die - it's so heavily debunked at this stage it's painful to watch people stanning for it. The longer hours you work the more mistakes you make due to fatigue and lack of focus, the more good time you have to spend the following day remedying cock ups. The more pressure you're under the more likely you are to fall back on 'tried and true' methodologies rather than looking for consistent overall improvement. The more overworked you are, the slower you'll actually produce work and the lower the total quality.

Quantity over quality: work six hours in a day and spend two cooking a proper meal and taking a short walk and you'll do more, higher quality work in those six hours than you'd do in 10 if you sat there stapled to your chair, chugging energy drinks and coffee to keep your eyes open. (You'll also live long enough to see your retirement).

She cooks her own meals?

FOR SHAME!!!!!!!
Real "hard workers" eat exclusively from vending machines, but it does not end there. You know what I call people who take bathroom breaks... slugs, they might as well be receiving welfare. Real "hard workers" start the day by strapping on a diaper, we don't have time for bathroom breaks because we are working so hard. Personal hygiene is for the weak and lazy. If my employer let me, I wouldn't even waste the time putting on pants. That's 45 seconds that I could be at work, wasted.

My dream, is a job where I don't even leave. I want a cot under my desk and a never ending supply of monster energy drinks. They don't even need to pay me legal currency. Why would I need to go anywhere outside of work? They can just pay me in work credits, then charge me for room and board, my diet of Doritos, and my weekly hose down. I recognize that this is just a fantasy, but a man can dream.

Pete Parsons should be criticized.

What CEO in the world approves employees get cooking and knitting classes on company dime? I think they axed it all last year.

You can always hand the trophy to tech companies who really know how to use their cash on dumb shit only they can think of.
