Sailor Moon, also, how far did you manage to watch the series?

I've watched the series multiple times. Most of it came through syndication before it was on USA and Toonami.

The DiC dub for the most part was great and then you get to Clowerway and S and I can't stomach the dub to save my fucking life. At this juncture I pull out the subbed episodes and watch it from there. It was a damn shame we never got a Stars dub though. But the fandubs for it are pretty well done and are worth checking out.

PGSM is the shit. I really like how they got a lot done in 51 Episodes. And were able to take the basic premise of Sailor Moon and tell an original story for the most part. I'll say on record that PGSM was good at getting me emotionally involved in the story. And an episode or 2 made me shed a man tear because of this fact. If you watched the show it'd be easy to guess what those scenes may have been.

The one thing I'm disappointed about was last year was the 20th anniversary of the manga and didn't shit happen. All we got was that puzzle game on DS. Which makes me wonder why Another Story didn't get a DS remake. It is the anniversary of the anime this year so maybe we'll get something. It'll end up being another marathon through the series like I do once every couple of years or so. I hope we get a surprise announcement about something for the series this year.

Cartoon Network went all the way through SuperS (neptune and uranus were cousins), so that's what I watched. Mars, Pluto, and Jupiter were the best.

It did. It turned them into cousins in the dub. The only series that never had a US release was Stars.

Yes, but as "cousins."

Wow... cousins?! Isn't that even worse? XD

Where the hell is Sailor Venus in the OP's pic?

Apparently cropped at the left.

Fond memories of watching this show at noon (or was it 12:30) on YTV, right after Camp Caribou.

Damn, I think I still remember the Camp Caribou oath.

There was a DS game?

It's probably due to Takeuchi Naoko's inability to budge on anything :\

It's for the better, doesn't really go with the rest of the picture.

I started watching sailor moon around 1994, I think back then I started watching upto sailor moon S I think I stopped watching around the horse love arc, stopped watching cause I lost interest in it(formula got stale) plus I hate chibimoon, but the series still holds a special place in haato

But marathoned it with gaf last summer finishing the series and kill my childhood memory of it in the processes.

MKR? Well, it's depends on preference if you talk about the quality. But seeing who set the trend and how popular it was, Sailor Moon just kill MKR in one hit.

Anyway, this is my opinion

S > R > Sailor Moon > Stars > Super S

One thing seperate Sailor Moon from the rest of the magical anime is how serious it is when it comes to the drama. Especially episode S when they introduce the whole outer space sailor (Neptune, Uranus, Pluto, Saturn). The story is very well explain. The background story of Neptune/Uranus. The introduction to Saturn (and how they make her the final boss of the episode). The new Sailor Moon transformation to Super Sailor Moon. And much more stuff. Even the chapter when Neptune/Uranus die to protect each other has been voted as the best chapter our of all anime during its year.

I watched all of it over the summer, as you do. While the show as a whole is kind of uneven there's good episodes in every single season.

All the way up to Super S, then Cartoon Network pulled the series. I'm still waiting for someone to pick up the American distribution rights again. I'd buy the series in a second, just not for $400+. It's the same deal with Cardcaptor Sakura.

I watched all of the English language version of what I assume was the original show (I was very young when it came on.) One of my first anime experiences, that and when SciFi channel would do Saturday anime (Iria, 8Man, Tank Police, Akira, Roujin Z, etc.) Almost forgot, Samurai Pizza Cats - oh yeah.

There was a DS game?

Yeah, there was. La Luna Splende. It was kind of like Mario vs Donkey Kong in premise to a degree. And the weird part about it is that it only came out in Europe. There's a link below if your curious about the game.

It's probably due to Takeuchi Naoko's inability to budge on anything :\

This seems to be the case a lot more than it should be. But she's protecting her brand so I can't be as mad as I'd like to. But she needs to understand that people love what she created and want to celebrate its accomplishments.

And Sailor Mercury is best Scout. HOLD DAT!!!

I made it all the way through SuperS. Stars was just a mess. I don't know what was going on in Naoko Takeuchi's head when she did the manga for that. The anime of Stars was even worse despite simplification.

Really? The anime was certainly a mess because of how much they changed, but I thought that arc in the manga was on par with the rest.

I just didn't like the manga for Stars. Left me bitter and with unanswered questions. But that's just my opinion.

Woke up at like 5 am everyday to watch it on UPN back in the day. No shame. I believe I saw the whole series by the time it was over, think on Toonami. Got really meh towards the end.

Oh, Sailor Jupiter was the best

Mercury fans get mad.

I used to watch the first two seasons every morning before school. I read up on the internet about further seasons and wondered if they would ever be translated/broadcast in the US.

I don't know how many years later but Cartoon Network started playing the third and fourth seasons. I had my mom record them for me since I was just getting out of school at the time they came on and I didn't want to miss any part of the episode. Then in college I just schedualed my classes to be back to my dorm by the time the episode aired. :P

Once they released the Season 1 & 2 boxsets on DVD, I bought them; then bought the 3rd season dvds individually (not sure they had a boxset for that at the time). Then I imported the last two seasons since I don't think they had plans to release the 4th season dvds in America, and never broadcast the 5th (which I had never seen) so that wouldn't be getting dvds in America anyway.

So yeah, I might like Sailor moon a bit. <___<;;;

I watched it, but I don't remember a damn thing about the show except for that catchy ass U.S. theme song. " Fighting evil by the moon light!" It gets me hyyyyyypeeeeee!

Just the DiC dub and one of the movies.

So much was lost in the DiC translation. I had all the subs, up to the end of SuperS and all the movies.

I think my favorite episode involved Chibi Usa and her encounter with the "elephant" at the playground. Lul. I nearly died from laughter.

That and her Pink Sugar Heart attack to the fanny of a poor monster of the week.

In Canada we got to watch it on YTV. they stopped at the the end of the Dark Queen arc. I was forced to buy the comic books and they of course made no sense to me. Luna became a woman and was super hot. Artemis was a white haired dude, the little girl was Sailor Moon's kid. There was a lot of supposed lesbianism and what looked liked raped to me. But then I was like 12 so it's only now that I know what it meant.

I tried to see some of it on the net, but the quality is VHS. But I have fond memories of the show. I wanted to be sailor Jupiter because she was strong, and I didn't like the others, they were too girly

edit: ha! I found the image of Luna and Artemis

Watched everything that aired on Toonami and when it aired at like, 6am before school. Also watched a few random uncut episodes and movies. Gotta love how this was the ultimate guilty pleasure show for guys in the 90s.

I watched it quite a bit. I would want to watch Dragon Ball Z and my sister would watch Sailor Moon and I'd usually stick around to watch it as well.

In particular I think we watched most of R, S and Super S, by the end of Super S she was done with it, so I didn't continue to watch.

Yeah the manga gets kind of out there. There are a whole bunch of other sailor scouts that never made it into the anime too.

IIRC Luna/Artemis are part of a species of cat people from planet Muu/Mua? I can't really recall now the name. But anyway, that explains why they can talk. I think Luna transforms to human in one of the anime movies; and you can also see one of the sailor scouts from their home planet in the final season. But that's about as far as the anime gets into it.

They're from Mau. Tin Cat is their Sailor.

Edit: wait, that's wrong. Tin Cat killed Sailor Mau, but she's from that planet as well.

I watched ALL of it, even SuperS (i really hate Chibiusa though) and specially Stars. The movies were great too but the one that is the superior is S: The movie.

Same. I guess I got burned on the boring SuperS (god I want to strangle Chibiusa). Kinda sad too since Stars marked the return of my favorite soldiers (the outer planets).

I guess that's why I can't get into many other magical girls - they all remind me of Chibiusa.

I liked ChibiUsa when she wasn't being an obnoxious bitch. I think that happened like all of three times from SMR to SuperS.

I think I watched about 2 and half or 3 seasons before I stopped watching

But during those first 2, I really surprisingly enjoyed the show

This was the english dub btw

As YTV was a huge supporter of the show (and helped pay for later episodes to be dubbed through Nelvana), I'd like to say I've seen a good majority of it. Obviously Stars wasn't brought over so I never saw that.

Love Sailor Moon.

Currently watching the live action series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.

Also, you just set off the Hitokage alarm.

The live action is sooo gooooood....

Sailor moon does not hold a candle to MKR, but it's still decent. I'll admit though I only got as far as when they introduced the little girl who transformed into a full grown woman. I forget her name but it's been a long time since i've seen the show.

Never watched Sailor Moon, but this was my shit!

Man, Sailor Mercury has that cute geeky girl thing going on.

But Sailor Jupiter is a brunette, and can cook.

I watched this on Toonami, mostly because it came on before Dragon Ball Z. But it was a good show for the most part, and liked the short anime skirts.

Are you me? Basically this.

For most US residents the exposure to Sailor Moon was early morning syndication (like 6-7 AM), then through Toonami (which really brought the series to notoriety here), and then by 1999-2000 Toonami started showing the various movies. If you were lucky enough to have a good mom and pop video store you could rent all of them on VHS back then.

Funniest thing about them making Uranus and Neptune cousins, was that they didn't really cut out any of the innuendo, and just made it look line incest.

Weird thing in the US about editing Japanese animation back then: Incest (borderline or not) >>>>> Lesbianism. I'm not even kidding, this was like 1998 and shit.

MKR season 1 only. Anything after that was bollocks.

I watched whatever was on Cartoon Network. I started out just having it on while waiting for Gundam Wing, but I eventually got into it and watched multiple seasons.

I also saw about a dozen episodes of the live action show on YouTube (this was in YouTube's infancy so there's no way it's still up).

Haha yes. Total backfire.
