SAINTS ROW – Gameplay Trailer

I think it looks really fun. What's the matter? I swear, some of you guys complain about every fucking thing about video game.

Is it the enthusiast gaming forum or the depressive gaming forum.
You're right, it sucks to read constant dogpiling posts of negativity, but I guess it's just the way the audience here is. Consider the year this forum started and everyone's collective age range by now and it makes more sense why they are this way. You just have to not let it get to you too much or else it will consume you and you'll be another poster making a goodbye thread in 6 months.

It's all good, but yeah like you say there is so much negativity but then, it's not only here but pretty much anywhere on the internet. Let it be Facebook or other forum like here.

It's just the way it is I suppose. Though, just imagine the people working at this studio reading mostly complain about their work. Imagine if people would do the same about any other kind of job. If my customers would talk shit all day long about my food, I would certainly tell them to fuck off from my kitchen.

I believe there are constructive criticism. It's rarely constructive on the internet. It's mostly a place to shit post and pop off.

The world doesnt look great and some of the character designs are bad. Namely the black chick with the teenage boy haircut and fashion sense that game devs love using for women recently, also Steve Urkel looking dude.

Saint's row is all about early 2000s gangs and then a parody of those gangs.
Not about hipster gangs...
Well, at least todays generation gets their own fitting saints row

I think it looks good, but also not 'get at launch' good. Probably pick this up with a buddie after a few months.

Looks pretty bad to me. The world looks pretty empty, I don't want an actual sandbox. I'm not asking for the characters to realistic, but they are generic modern-day types. Just another series gone the wrong way. At least they doubled down on customization, probably the only plus for me. I'm sure it will appear on game pass.

It actually ludicrous how mediocre the full package of this is, like the way the animations are not too much better than the old GTA 3D universe days, the fidelity of the models, the lack of object motion blur making it look like fucking pingu. The game looks like a practical joke from a time traveller.

It looks like mindless fun. It'll be a good pick up when it goes on sale between other big games.

yea thats how I see this.

This is one of the few titles where I could give 2 shits if it looks as good as Red Dead 2 or The Last Of Us 2 or something, its aim seems to be more so with this chaos, old school open world design and it seems the developer is looking to focus on those old school basics. So this is a 100% buy for me. After a few videos of them showing those crazy missions, I was set.

Not all games need to be Red Dead 2 looking lol I just don't expect that from every title and it seems this title isn't really promising some revolunary thing, its focus is on solid established design. Not every title needs to re-invent the wheel and i'm fine with this. I'd argue we need more games just focusing on what they do best as I'm a huge supporter of the AA type games we used to get back in the day.

Calling it now: this game will bomb as hard as if not harder than Agent of Mayhem

Unlikely lol Because this game is carrying the Saints Row name and many people even in theses threads are saying they will buy it, I don't see anything to say it will sell like Agent's Of Mayhem.

So...we've heard people say Far Cry 5 was going to bomb too lol So this is a wait and see.

I will laugh if I read in a few months that Agents of Mayhem made more money than this game.

So basically..what your saying is

"I don't care about this franchise"
"I don't care if it could be better then gta or rdr"

"I don't care if it fails"

That's your outlook bud
Fan's like you killed this franchise
If you even consider yourself a fan

Its never going to be on the level of GTA and I don't give a fuck if it is or isn't. Sorry man but, none of those games where on the level of GTA and now its unlikely that will ever happen with the even deeper production quality added to the likes of GTA, RDR2 etc.

I simply don't delude myself into this bullshit belief that it COULD BE, if it wasn't this game or something. I don't think this team could reach that even if they wanted to go after that, so I accept that this game is what it is.

So no man, not crying over this fucking shit cause you are some hardcore fan of the IP. I don't give a shit. I feel sorry for people like this if anything as I take games by a game by game basis and accept it for what it is, not what I want it to be based on some fanfiction or something. For what they are going after, I don't see it failing as I don't see some massive AAA budget or attempt to even take on GTA to believe it not matching it is a fail. The whole series wasn't able to match GTA, yet went on to have many, many sequels.

So don't consider myself a fan of this series and don't give a shit. The game looks good, looks fun, will pick up and play it for what they are marketing it to, not based on how much I like RDR2 or GTAV or something. This game was never aiming to be that and thats ok, this game is never going to move GTA V numbers...thats ok too.

Its ok to fucking like a game for being a game as suppose to this nostalgia trip, fanfiction, cult fan type shit that I've seen regarding some IP. You don't speak for this IP and neither do I, I'm just giving my take on this as a gamer first and foremost. So I don't care if most games are not as good as other games that I've played, its silly to assume I'd put that standard on everything as if thats the norm. I very much knowingly play lots of games I don't think are up to the quality of a RDR2 or The Last Of Us 2 all the time.

So I don't really get this whole edgelord, try hard, RIDE OR DIEZ for some IP, to just enjoy a video game. What are you going to tell me? A prerequisite exist to playing and liking this game and you MUST play the older ones to give a view on this? Thats going to be enforced by you or? lol

Sosokrates

Report me if I continue to console war
I'm not a fan of the character designs, but the sandbox open world elements look quite goods, lots of customisation, cars, guns, cloths etc
Hopefully there will be some creative missions,SR2 was quite good in that department.

Will you do the fair thing and compare launch vs launch or take the potential troll option and compare launch vs lifetime?
Yes, I will do the fair thing and laugh if this Saints Row doesn’t sell over 67k units in its first week.

“Breaking down the sales by platform, the game sold best on the PlayStation 4 with 42,475 units sold (63%), compared to 24,584 units sold on the Xbox One (37%). Breaking down the sales by region, the game sold best in the US with 34,371 units sold (51%), compared to 20,113 units sold in Europe (30%).Oct 6, 2017”

People always forget that the first saints row was only sold on one console. So go ahead and multiply sr1 sales by three

The engine looks lovely, the writing looks competent but toothless. Almost like a knockoff tribute band. It feels like a bunch of new brains made the game they thought the audience wanted out of a reaction to the poor performance Agents of Mayhem. The Koolaid of "This is the game we make, this is what our fans want..."

The problem is Saints Row is a copy of GTA that used extreme freedom (customization) and irreverence (narrative) as the main differentiator. Over the sequels, the gameplay improved to add more variety, but not necessarily any innovation. Humor is subjective, and while dildo bats made for attention-grabbing fodder in the past, it doesn't work today. Tone-wise, they're painted in a corner where they can't re-do the 00's era humor they're known for, tip-toeing the wire of cringe. So, they dial it back and reinvent it.

Only you have to be brave when you reinvent. The characters, gameplay, and story feel rooted in taking the safest, most appealing approach to their projected audience. If there's something more to say other than "we're back!" -- I haven't seen it.

We'll see if it lands and if it can impress. I like Volition and want this game to succeed.

A lot of the gameplay things that I've seen people complain about on here turn out to have options (enemy aggression level, bullet sponginess, aim assist stickiness, etc). The adjustability is actually pretty high:

I get you, I just want a new open world crime game. I mean the story and characters are looking to suck donkey balls but that's not gonna stop me from having fun lol. It's Saints Row after all, it's always been second best, always been turn your brain off stupid, and only one game has had a memorable story out of the whole franchise.

I know it doesn't have to have RDR 2 graphics, that would be silly to expect. My issue is I genuinely think SR3/4 looks and moves better and has better cutscenes than this, if its just more of the same then I would just play the old games over this.

We'll see on Saturday when its released anyway, can't know how it actually plays until then, I'm just going by what I see in the trailers (y) I'm happen to be proven completely wrong because I want more fun games to play. I hope you're right pal!

Wow her voice acting was weak and lacked any personality at all, I'm surprised they went with this one for marketing the game, makes me wonder how bad the other one's sound.

Someone just streamed 4+ hours of it on Twitch there was a bit where they kept dying and the mission intro repeated and I wanted to fire rounds in my ears.

You can probably still watch as a VoD while he's still online, the streamers username is something with zombie.

Agreed. Thats how I see a lot of this.

Many games I play for great stories and some games I put that aside and its a irrelevant point or something, like my focus is on the play aspect vs the narrative and story making it or breaking it for me. This is one of those games that has a deep focus on that play, chaos, open world antics type deal that having a good story is a plus, but not a deal breaker for me. As in I love the gameplay in the Diablos series and I couldn't even fucking tell you what that story is and I've played probably thousands of hours of the series lol Yet other games I replay time and time again to hear the story like Oblivion or Red Dead or The last Of Us or MGS3. I think this is simply the type of game where gameplay imho is put first as the main thing and story can add to that, can be great, but won't make the title similar to MGSV. Horrid story, but great gameplay.

So I hope for a good story, but its not something that would ever stop me from buying this otherwise.

I know it doesn't have to have RDR 2 graphics, that would be silly to expect. My issue is I genuinely think SR3/4 looks and moves better and has better cutscenes than this, if its just more of the same then I would just play the old games over this.

I get you, but that needs to be understood that its your view on this, not the majority. Its like me telling you how much I love MGS3 or that MGS4 moves better then MGSV, that won't magically stop MGSV from breaking all sorts of records, even with a trash story lol

So i don't think it will move Agent's Of Mayhem numbers as that is silly, I do believe it can end up becoming the best selling title in the series history and it wouldn't be all that shocking.

You feel those older games look better. That is ok to think and feel that. The new 17 year old kid buying this game, do you really think they give a shit? Really think about this man....they don't care, they likely NEVER heard of those original titles anymore then the kids who bought Prince Of Persia reboot didn't play the originals or likely don't care, they bought it based on what it was offering to them as new consumers, not based on what the original sold or did. If anything, think about those new AC RPG titles, look at how many people say they like Unity better or the original trilogy etc. I'm sure they do, I'm sure they only play those old ones now like you plan to play the old Saints games.

Did that stop AC? Did that series die or? This is what I mean when I say gamers need to separate their personal views from objective reality, I simply can't apply what I personally loved back in the day or what I feel is the best MGS title or something, to what another title might sell. Factor that the majority are not on NeoGaf, the majority may have not played the games we played and a whole new set of gamers might buy this game with little to no reference of the original title.

I just don't buy that this game's success or fail is based on anything those past titles did and I believe its success will be based on can it resonate with the current generation of gamers and can it offer that twitch, streaming, random fun. So I believe this title can do those things. I don't buy that it needs to be better then those older titles in all areas cause I don't believe most of its sales will come from that exact base. Look at AC (hate to keep referencing it lol) but how many of those AC RPGs fans really bought the first titles? For all we know, the majority of kids playing this game, were not even born with the first Saint's game came out lol

Oh I understand this, I'm saying I personally won't pay for something that's of lesser quality than the previous games in my eyes, we're just here talking about what we personally think of games I'm not really that bothered about what new comers think of this game and more power to you if you enjoy this one.

I still think the quality of the animation and writing and characters is poor in isolation to previous titles. Even new comers will feel its average quality, I'm not some rose tinted freak you'll see me espouse opinions that the latest version of many series is the best on here, some of my favourites games of all time are from the last 10 years and I've been playing for 30.

Normally I can isolate the good elements, I happen to love MGS 2 the most, but MGS 4 is fan service greatness that I put immediately below it but ignoring story and characters the gameplay loop of 5 is by far the best in my eyes.

I'm just not getting anything positive from this SR game 🤷‍♂️ I feel strongly this will be overall: poo across the board.

I'm not trying to antagonise you, this game could well be a success.
