(Salon) Technical expert: Bush was wired during debate

Oct. 13, 2004 | Speculation continues to run wild about President Bush's mystery bulge. Since Friday, when Salon first raised questions about the rectangular bulge that was visible under Bush's suit coat during the presidential debates, many observers in the press and on the Internet have wondered aloud whether the verbally and factually challenged president might be receiving coaching via a hidden electronic device.

Now a technical expert who designs and makes such devices for the U.S. military tells Salon that he believes the bulge is indeed a transceiver designed to receive electronic signals and transmit them to a hidden earpiece lodged in Bush's ear canal.

"There's no question about it. It's a pretty obvious one -- larger than most because it probably has descrambling capability," said Alex Darbut, technical and business development vice president for Resistance Technology in Arden Hills, Minn. Darbut examined photographs of the president's back taken from the Fox News video feed at the first presidential debate in Coral Gables, Fla., as well as 2002 photos of the president driving and working in a T-shirt on his Crawford ranch, which were posted on the White House Web site.

[...]

Despite the official denials, the bulge brouhaha is still ballooning. On Tuesday, the New York Daily News produced a master tailor named Frank Shattuck who, after viewing photos from both debates, confirmed, "There's definitely something there, in between the shoulder blades. I can't say what it is, but it's not hidden very well. They should have come to me. I can hide a pistol under the breast."**

Maybe that explains that really, REALLY long pause Bush took after he was granted 30-seconds to rebut Kerry ("The Daily Show" simply highlighted it as him being his ol' stupid self. Maybe there was more to it).

It's not a transmitter -- it's the outline of the hatch Cheney installed after 9/11. Although he realized that he would need to manipulate the "President," the prospect of reaching his hand into Bush's ass to make his mouth move was unappealing. Thus, the hatch.

Christ. They should just hire Earl Hebner to pat down both candidates for foreign objects before starting the debate.

Dumbest President Ever.

Who cares. Everyone bitched about Kerry pulling something out of his pocket at the debate, and this is practically the same type of controversy.

Salon is the liberal online equivalent of Fox news.

I like reading their articles, but their views on politics have to be taken with a salt refinery.

Only Kerry pulled a pen out of his pocket. Bush has people telling him what to say. There's a big difference.

Yeah, this is so true and everything because a liberal news source reports it.

Sorry, but as much as some of you actually want to believe this, it's most likely not true.

Maybe, just maybe it is a bulletproof vest. Figuring that he hasn't changed a single thing he has said since the 2002 I don't see why he would need to be coached. They have already coached him.

According from his own officials, he was not wearing a bulletproof vest.

Interesting:

From the NY Times

First they said that pictures showing the bulge might have been doctored. But then, when the bulge turned out to be clearly visible in the television footage of the evening, they offered a different explanation.

IMO they should deny (and rightfully so) that the man wears anysort of protective body armor. But, I'm more sure that it is some sort of body armor.

body armor that protects the middle of his back? In case a camera man has a gun? No way, Fitty Cent has thin body armor surely the president can do as good as fitty.

What do you suppose is on the back of a bulletproof vest? fancy ties? Be real man.

I'm not saying it WAS a bulletproof vest, but be realistic.

This thread coming from the same poster who made us stare at the underside of the airliner that crashed into the WTC insisting that there was some mysterious pod attached. :p

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree. Big fuckin' deal. It's not like he was broadcasting thought jamming waves into Kerry's skull. There was talk about him having a wire after the first debate because of pauses, too. It's not like it's really beneficial anyway. The long pauses, I would argue, are worse than poor answers. I don't know what it is, but I don't think it'll matter.

Fuck it, debates aren't solving anything. I say Bush/Cheney and Kerry/Edwards just have a tug of war match on live television. Except they can't pull directly on each others' ropes, they have to artfully imply the pulling by addressing a third party.

It would be cool if he were wired from smoking crack cocaine right before the debate. That's the kind of 'wired' president I want to see.

That's what i thought the title was referring to.

It was C4. If the debate went really bad he planned to go out in a blaze of glory.

And that would be Dick Cheney's signal to attack America!
