With all the music and dance games out now, makes me wish that Samba De Amigo would make a comeback.Sadly the maracas were expensive and sega being third party i dont think we will ever see this game again.

The home Maracas didn't work very well if you were used to the arcade version. However, with the Eyetoy, you should be able to do a Samba that was pretty great.

I can vouch for the Sega Superstars one. It's not the best thing ever, and it's got a very limited song list, but it's good enough to remind you just how good Samba was.

Dreamcast w/ Maracas...

Eyetoy doesn't really require proper timing. It just requires motion at the point at the time the dot hits it. It's mostly just functional and fun.

It's good, but it's not great. I'd say Samba is the 2nd best game on Sega Superstars behind Puyo Pop.

the homebrew scene for dreamcast is pretty big isn't it? someone should make a spiritual successor!! I still play samba all the time... :(

I only ask because it's a pain to set up my DC and all the maracas, but with family and friends coming over for the holidays I'll probably give it a go next month.

With Miyamoto splooging over the game you'd think it would make a GC appearance...
What, Samba de Amigo or Sega Superstars? :lol

I'm trying to sell a couple of sets of maracas and the two Samba games if anyone's interested... dunno how much shipping from Japan would be, though.

I'd like to grab the second game and a pair of maracas (already have the first game and one controller). Can't afford eBay prices, though :( The official SEGA maracas go for 90-100 dollars.

Samba rules. Even when you're not playing it the box just sits there looking awesome. I've got it on the top of my bookshelf with two of the DK controllers on top of it and two Street Fighter controllers in front.. It's like looking at a piece of art. A piece of art called "This room is awesome."

Good christ, really? I think I've got a total of 3 pair (2 US, 1 Jp.) between myself and my dad.

Yeah, I've looked into getting maracas and I'll probably be going for a pair of $40 knock-offs, there's no way I can afford $75-$90 for official ones.

You're lucky. I'd love to try this game in multiplayer mode. I'll bet that's fun. Plus I hear there's a ton of good stuff in the second game. Like more party games and stuff.

But the box, man!

While on the subject, has anyone tried the third party DC maracas? i've got the official maracas, but i wouldn't mind retiring them for a pair of good third party maracas.

Be careful with the third party maracas, some of them don't work with Samba de Amigo Ver. 2000, the Japan-only sequel/expansion.

the standard practice at every good Mexican restaurant of giving free chips and salsa just for sitting down should be supplemented with the installation of Samba De Amigo Arcade cabinets somewhere near the bar - like Pacman and pizza in the 80's - It'd be like my "Cheers"!

snakes alive! lookit that cabinet... :(

One advice: don't buy the ones from lik sang. They are horrible. I bought 2 sets and both were broken within 2 days.

Sending them back wasn't an option since 75% of the price consisted of shipping and taxes.

Try to find the originals on ebay, it's not that expensive. Not for all the fun it brings :)

Someone might have a set for sale on the for sale/trade thread. :whistles nonchalantly:

PAL version though (but the maracas would be fine)

It made a semi-comeback in sega superstars or something.
I think that the fact it makes Superstars hints it might well make a return.

I recall reports that some actually caught on fire.

Yeah, but if you were cool (and your avatar says you are) you would sell them to GAF members at a discount. I believe the standard GAF discount is 50 percent ;)

Shakka de Tambourine! or whatever

It's "shakatto tanbarin" (Shakka to Tanbarin => Shaker & Tambourine)

I have the only home version of it "Shakattotanbarin da pyon!" which features Minimoni and ... it's just not as good as Samba. It's way too easy, even on the hardest difficulty because it's meant for kids. I would love for Sega to do a proper home port of the arcade game, but eh... it's been several years now and they haven't.
