Yeah I know it's a TMZ link but still

Barack Obama's politics meant nothing to Samuel L. Jackson because the "Pulp Fiction" star only voted for the president for one reason and one reason only ... because he's black.

In an interview with Ebony magazine, Jackson explained, "I voted for Barack because he was black. 'Cuz that's why other folks vote for other people — because they look like them ... That's American politics, pure and simple. [Obama's] message didn't mean [bleep] to me.

Jackson then went on to drop the N-word several times when discussing Obama, telling the mag, "When it comes down to it, they wouldn't have elected a [bleep]. A [bleep] is scary. Obama ain't scary at all. [Bleeps] don't have beers at the White House. [Bleeps] don't let some white dude, while you in the middle of a speech, call [him] a liar. A [bleep] would have stopped the meeting right there and said, ‘Who the [bleep] said that?' I hope Obama gets scary in the next four years, 'cuz he ain't gotta worry about getting re-elected."

How do you guys feel about this? It's his own personal choice, but I disagree with his point. I really dont think that people vote for candidates that look like them. I would almost go the point of saying that it's a pretty damn dumb reason to vote for someone. I expected better from Jackson.. And whats with the 'some white dude' thing :/

wat

About the rest, I really don't give two shits about what Samuel L. Jackson or pretty much any other celebrity has to say about anything. Their worldviews are so much different than mine simply because they're celebrities. They don't exist in the same world that I do.

I was tempted to make a post simply "That's fair, I didn't vote for him because he's black" but was afraid the sarcasm wouldn't be detected.

If people vote for people because they look like them, how did an individual belonging to an ethnic minority get elected?

HMMM.

Anyhow, doesn't bother me. Thinking a lot of black people wouldn't vote for the first potential black president simply because he's black is ridiculous. It'll also happen the first time we get the opportunity for a first female president.

And then beyond that, he's right. Hell, at this point, so much of our population simply votes on "republican" or "democrat" without actually caring what the people stand for or their views on issues.

If we had a populace that actually gave more of a damn about voting for the "right" person, then I'd care more when people make statements like these.

Didn't Chris Rock already do this? "He black. I black".

I hope Obama's 2012 re-election message is based on the "Angry Black Man" stereotype. Fuck hope and change. No more nursing some weak ass white wine, bust out 'dat bourbon.

You sir are no hero of the day.

Live up to your name next time and go for the gusto. I would have laughed.

I think the point is that people have been voting for white presidents for the past however many years and the idea of a president who is not white was not even something under consideration for a while so a lot of ethnic politics were at play. Hell we still won't vote for someone if they are not christian. It is true that a lot of enthusiasm in the black community for Barack Obama was because he was a minority and honestly I don't see the huge deal considering that it is something that no one ever expected could happen so naturally people got excited. I don't get mad when Mormons vote for Mitt Romney. Ultimately the goal for society should be to move beyond ethnic politics.

You're probably right. They don't vote for them because they look like them. They vote for whichever one spends the most money advertising.

When it comes down to it, they wouldn't have elected a nigga. A nigga is scary. Obama ain't scary at all. Niggas don't have beers at the White House. Niggas don't let some white dude, while you in the middle of a speech, call [him] a liar. A nigga would have stopped the meeting right there and said, ‘Who the fuck said that?' I hope Obama gets scary in the next four years, 'cuz he ain't gotta worry about getting re-elected.
Damn.

Thought Samuel was smarter than this.

I didn't vote for Obama solely because he's black, but I was happy to be voting for a black guy for the presidency. Likewise I would have been pleased to vote for Hilary Clinton, as the first female president.

Yeah, a lot of people probably voted for Obama because he's black. But a lot of people probably voted against him because he's black. It all evens out to me.

On another note, I always found it funny when people say something like "Yeah well all blacks/minorities voted for Obama". Doesn't that mean only whites voted for that McCage dude?

I don't blame him. I too voted for Obama because he was black -- though still white enough so as not to completely disrupt my delicate sensibilities.

Sounds like they caught him at the perfect time. He seems very frustrated with the American political system and this frustration has probably been building for some time.

I always found the outrage about that fact some blacks voted for Obama based on the fact he was black ironic when at the same time there was women's movement that basically wanted to elect Hillary because she is woman then the same thing happened when Palin came in to the picture. It very hypocritical especially when we know for damn sure many also did not vote for Obama because he is black.
