Samuel L. Jackson has joined the cast of Jose Padilha's remake of "Robocop" at MGM and Sony Pictures says Heat Vision.

Joel Kinnaman ("The Killing") stars as cop Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer with the help of Gary Oldman's scientist-creator character.

Jackson will play Pat Novak, a charismatic media mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world. Shooting kicks off in September in Toronto.

Sounds like a role for Jackson. It also appears to have a good mix of actors. Hype rising.

Still not very glad about this remake. How can it ever have the flair, and the atmosphere of the old Robocop? The society was made fun of, the TV bits were awesome, all-in-all Robocop just rocks.

this sounds cheesy as fuck. this remake is going to be terrible.

HUGE Robocop fan (it was MY Star Wars as a kid) and I'm really looking forward to this.

The media was an important aspect of the original (it was the first thing you saw), so I'm curious. Not dismissive.

I wonder if this Robocop will make Detroit feel more real with a majority black cast. Probably not. I think the new Robocop should have been black instead of a lone white guy in a city that is well over 80% black.

In the original, Alex Murphy was a transfer from another city.

What I liked about the original Robocop is that it felt like a 'realistic' future. Robocop was a top of the line robot, but he was still moving around like a tank, he was heavy and a bit clunky; same thing with the ED-209. We've all seen those robot and powersuit prototypes on youtube, and it really does feel like we are 20-30 years away from what we saw in Robocop.

I hope that the new robocop wont ninja his way around..

It's going to be good I bet, why so dismissive, it's not like we're dealing with something as sacred as say Metropolis.

the best part of the original was kurtwood smith. the other 2 robocop movies are shit, I have no hope for this one.

Shooting in Toronto? Boooo. Detroit is perfect: It is already run down and bankrupt, they desperately need the money, and you can get away with blowing up any building you want. Hell they'd probably thank you for it.

Also, Joel Kinnaman is a terrible choice for Robocop

He looks like an 80 pound meth addict.

He's going to be covered in armor, what does his build matter?
