Samus cameo in Federation Force revealed

Gonna buy it day one!

I really hope the people of NLG don't read threads like this. They're working their asses off to produce a game that gets butchered by some people that haven't even played a second of it.

It's also getting butchered by people that have played it. It's hard to find any positive articles about the game from the PAX East demo.

It's just her spaceship, that's it

That's it? That's all we see of Samus? Just her ship?

What a fucking joke. I know this is a spinoff game but cmon.

Well, now that's pretty crap.

Let's see how good or bad the game actually turns out to be. But so far, it looks like a turd.

Nintendo: do NOT blame the Metroid franchise if this sells poorly. Blame your executives for signing off on a game that no one wanted. Blame your marketing department for giving you bad data. Etc. But don't blame Metroid, because this game is NOT Metroid.

In this case nobody should ever be critical of any game on a public forum because of hurt feelings.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Fucking Tanabe!!! HAHAHA
Holy shit, not even the music sounds like Metroid. Samus doesnt appear with Theme of Samus (or Theme of Super Metroid, that is use in all her stellar appearences), who the fuck though that was a good idea! Even the fucking Virtual Boy pinball game had the melody when you control samus on her ship.

Hey, heres something that could have been a great federation spin off.
-Put it after Fusion, your team actually needs to capture Samus and get her to trial after the events of that game.
-The four characters in your team actually have a personality and think they are doing the right thing
-Discover in the middle of the game how the Galactic Federation are maybe not the good guys here.
-Samus actually saves you in person in the final part of the game, by actually appearing in a whole mission. You let her go.
???
PROFIT

And maybe be making an actual Metroid game after Fusion in the background, but you know, let people know info about it so they know it exists. Maybe a good teaser.

Also, dont let Tanabe near any position of creative control again. He knows how to be a western producer when other are putting the work, but he knows shit about actually having a good idea for a game.

Its not their fault, they are a great team. See how they werent let be on any interviews alone for this piece of shit, but they actually were for strikers, punch-out!! and Luigi's Mansion?
Its Tanabe's baby, through and through.

If they have any passion at all for this game, it's not shining through. Honestly, they're probably just there to do to the grunt work for Tanabe. I doubt they'll take any criticism personally. If I'm wrong and they truly have a larger creative role here, then they absolutely deserve to share the criticism.

NLG's trademark animation flourishes are everywhere: exiting the dropship, the dropships themselves, climbing into the mechs, etc.

I don't understand, the video just says this is mission 12, is it the last one? if it is that's a pretty boring last boss. There's a chance Samus shows up later on isn't there?

Anyway, I'm in the minority but I always wanted to see more about the Federation aside from the one dimensional government force that is secretly evil. Still though, wish there was a game that's set after fusion so that they explore Samus being on the run.

I highly doubt that's the final boss of the game. The final boss is probably on the Doomseye (acting as a short final planet like Phaaze).

Federation Force just likes injecting unique cutscenes in each mission, this one just so happens to have a cameo.

This is actually one of the more fun-looking missions I've seen. I like the time limit imposed by the Beetle moving forward.

There is no way this is the last boss; that would mean only 12 missions, which would make the game tiny.

The funny thing is, if the cameo had Samus appearing in person and whatnot, people would just ask how the devs would have the gall to give her a role in such a game.

I mean, I don't like the game's existence either, but sheesh.

Then who cares? She'll probably show up in some form later on in the game. The real tragedy here is them continuing using the Metroid Prime 3 ship instead of the iconic and infinitely better designed one that's in Super Metroid and Prime 2.

The arm cannon animations are particularly cool.

It's obvious quite a bit of thought and effort went into the content featured in the demo. If the rest of the game is just as polished, we should have a quality product on our hands, whether some people are willing to admit it or not.

Eh, I like the Prime 3 ship. It's a cool design and you see a lot of it in Prime 3. It's not iconic like the Metroid 2 ship, but it's probably my 2nd favorite of Samus's ships.

And it makes sense to use it when Federation Force happens right after Prime 3.

"Trademark."

There's nothing unique about any of those things. Literally any company that makes video games is capable of animating a drop ship. But hey, if wanna drop $40 on this game because the arm cannon spins when you pull the trigger that's not my business.

There needs to be a ToS for how individuals are allowed to feel about this game since every time it comes up, there are people complaining about fan reactions.

e.g. "You're allowed to say 'the game isn't the best looking Nintendo title..." but saying 'this game looks ugly," is too far."

That's hilarious. Notice how there's never any discussion about the merits of the game (l wouldn't dare to imply it's because there's none) but people going "wow this looks shit" and then long winded outraged rants at how "immature" those darn Metroid fans are for thinking it looks shit.

Here's a suggestion for the thread police: instead of whining about people whining about the game, how about you ignore these obnoxious entitled opinions and try to discuss with your fellow Federation Force enthusiasts how excited you are to play a FPS for the first time and mash the fire button to shoot a big glowing weak point while barely moving?

Wow, I can't believe it. First Sakamoto, now Tanabe. You people are fucking insane.

I think NLG would rather make Federarion Force than crappy Activision and SEGA licensed games. It looks fun, just have to try the game out and form an opinion based on actual experience.

NLG makes games exclusively for Nintendo now. They shouldnt have to pick up Tanabe's dirty laundry that never went anywhere.

Eh, I wouldn't compare Tanabe to Sakamoto- the former is making a game far removed from main Metroid and Samus stuff. It's probably not going to be the Other M dumpster fire and it won't likely be an exercise in character assassination. So while this game looks shitty it's not a fucking disaster like Other M was so...

When u are trying so hard to avoid any single positive news about the game, i am sure u are not going to find any single one there lol.

I wonder what will happen to all of u haters when the game got reviewed quite well there. DDOS the web lol.^_^

I suspect they were involved in the project from the start: it's obvious the NLG metroid pitch was related given the timing.

It's just as much their pet project as it is his.

You seem to be oblivious to the particular animations I mentioned.

NLG have a very exaggerated animation style, one that was critically praised for both PunchOut and Dark Moon. In those two cases, it employed visual expression. However, with FF's case, they had to be more creative: thus, to create engaging cinematography, they're using additional kinetic movements. Your post completely misses the point as the arm cannon isn't even a good example.

When mounting the mech after ejection, for example, there's a chimplike quality in the process (using handles like monkeybars) that defy the game's bulky visual presentation, and scifi narratives in general. They have an energy that's alien to the rest of the franchise (and unfortunately to the way they are marketing this game) that I can't help but be intrigued.

There isn't really any positive reception to this game thus far tbh. Ranges from "not worth the dislikes" to "it's alright".

Honestly I would have taken an X-Com/ Fire Emblem like game featuring the federation versus pirates rather than this.

Like CODENAMED: S.T.E.A.M? It will bomb once again and badly lol.

Oh please. I had seen some positive review the moment Blast Ball released. Hell, some are even more interested in buying the game now rather than the first time the game is shown.

because unlike previous spinoffs, the mainline game is nowhere to be seen. This will happen any time a developer pulls something like this. Spinoffs are always a fun curiosity unless the main series is being ignored. See Valkyria Azure Revolution for the exact same reactions

World of difference between these two.

The gap between the last mainline Valkyria game and Azure Revolution is a year shorter in Japan, and there was another spinoff game inbetween.

Azure Revolution is also a full-budget HD title (The first one in 8 years) that is thematically in-line with its series.

And lastly, it's had alterations made to it in response to criticisms (More KOTOR, less Musou.) rather than the "No, trust us guys, this is a proper Metroid game." response Nintendo has given.

They're already blaming Metroid for Other M's dissapointing sales. That's the reason why we've gone 6 years without a Metroid game and when we finally are getting one it's hardly anything close to what Metroid is supposed to be.

judging by these posts , this game really is catering to it's audience.
