Samus cameo in Federation Force revealed

I don't get the fixation on Samus with the backlash FF got.

A Metroid game, not even a spinoff, could work great even without Samus. Samus is not what makes Metroid Metroid to me. Its isolation, exploration, progress through new equipment. Everything else is a variable.

FF shits on what makes the franchise, but Samus is not a necessity, imo.

What is the point of this post? Like what kind of responses are you hoping to garner? Metroid has spent 30 years up until now establishing Samus as the lead of Metroid. Final Fantasy doesn't do that.

I purchased No Man's Sky and I'll purchase this.

What's wrong with me?

Federation Force won't be a bad game, so there's nothing wrong with you.

Next Level Games' track record since working with Nintendo has been nigh-flawless and I expect that to continue through with this title.

I think the FF was meant for Federation Force not Final Fantasy

Man this game just... Doesn't look good.

Completely agree.

Shit, I damn near consider Alien: Isolation to be an unofficial Metroid game, lol. We'll call it the 'horror genre spin-off' to match the 'pinball', 'death-match fps' and 'co-op fps' spin-offs.

Probably responses from people who realised he meant Fed Force with 'FF', not Final Fantasy :)

I still can't believe the laziness of Tanabe's vision for this game. A co-op game where you have to navigate Metroid environments without Samus' powers, using more basic equipment and teamwork, that could be a great twist on the formula. Instead they just put the troopers in mech suits that give them Samus' basic abilities before shoving them into levels that have most of the Metroid complexity removed. I hope Tanabe catches some heat internally for this whole debacle, NCL's producers are not infallible and the last two Metroid products have severely damaged this IP.

Just let Retro handle the next game without Tanabe being up their anus.

It's a Nintendo game. It can't NOT be fun to a degree, right? It honestly can't be that bad, which is why people seem to be overreacting.

I have to draw a line for myself though. Sometimes I will buy a game in a series just to support that series. But there's no reason to buy Federation Force. It's not what I want out of something labeled "Metroid" so I don't want to encourage more games like it. It's not like I've bought every Metroid game at full price. I bought Other M for 8 bucks. I bought Prime MP Pinball for $10 used.

With FF, I just don't see any qualities that make me feel like I can play this game with my friends and have a lasting, quality experience. It's unappealing. It might not be horrible but it's not a looker, visually and gameplay wise it's not particularly exciting.

This is a "vote with your wallet" sort of situation. I'll save my money for a Metroid game that begs me to buy it Day 1.
Sticker Star was junk.

ITT overreactions at how a piece of entertainment media portrays a fictional character.

I mean, it's a game people actually want and it feels like the people that want a new real Metroid game are just being mocked by this game.

Don't get me wrong here, I think FF will be a good game, but I know it's a result of poor timing which is what caused the backlash. I will probably pick up FF myself, but stuff like this really stings, especially after the Other M disaster.

Come on guys, this isn't a Samus game. This is a spin off about soldiers from the Galactic Federation and it's been sold to us from the moment it was announced as a spin off. This wouldn't exist if Nintendo wern't planning to expand the Metroid franchise and with this being branded under "Metroid Prime" we can almost certainly expect Metroid Prime 4 for NX.

This is a cool little cameo, what were you expecting?

What has Final Fantasy to do with anything? FF in my post stands for Federation Force in this context which should be clear considering the topic of this thread. Chill. Now read again.

Upon reading further, I find myself more in agreement with the sentiment that the cameo isn't a big deal.

I wish they'd have put energy into something that the fanbase has been vocal about, but I think they've shown time and again that they do their thing, not what the fans, or necessarily the market, wants. Doesn't change the fact that I'm less keen on them then before, but other things have far more to do with that than the Samus cameo.

I don't know what else you could do to FZero that GX already didn't do, besides give it online play, to make it sell gangbusters.

If Nintendo really wants to revitalize these franchises, give them to Atlus to make more game like #FE. It's time for #F0 with Captain Falcon singing his theme song from GX while racing.

I can think of few games that were done as properly as F-Zero GX was, and it sold like crap. Hell, Sony dropped Wipeout like a bad habit and shows no signs of remorse, and those games did better than F-Zero for the most part.

I don't disagree. I meant the only way for large sales, would be to put it on PC, Xbox, and PS4 as well as NX. It would garner much larger sales and justify the production and marketing costs.

Nice to see she has her Prime 3 ship. Makes sense considering this is right after Prime 3.

I'm not mad over a cameo like that. Samus isn't the star of the game in the first place.

NLG made Strikers and the new Punch-Out!!, both of which were pretty good games, but nigh-flawless (especially Dark Moon) might be a bit of hyperbole. FF has enough gameplay videos out there to show that there are indeed flaws in the game design, and most definitely the graphic design. Saying it won't be a bad game is fairly bold, but I understand wanting to be optimistic.

I really enjoyed Luigi's Mansion. The game was a stunner visually and was basically a classic point & click adventure without the pointing or clicking.

At least now we know that the story Peer fed us about Nintendo taking her out for lunch for her birthday and putting a bullet in her head is inaccurate! :)

Sticker Star was flawed but fine if you thought of it as an action platformer and not a RPG.

It was a bad action platformer

Super Paper Mario was a fine version of that with rpg elements

Sticker star is garbage, and you can't think of that like that because it strait up breaks into rpg battles.

I personally don't think this game will be that bad. I have faith in NLG. But why oh why is there not online co op? Local co op only? Really?! Wth.

Its a shame Nintendo didn't release or confirm a actual metroid game before this game was announced because a lack of classic metroid is the issue. A cameo in that scenario would have been great. Now it's just a gesture that acts like Nintendo is kicking the fan base.

This is the first I've seen of this game as I've pretty much totally ignored it until now.

What the fuck at those graphics? Is this a game that was in development for the original DS and got ported over or something? I'd never guess it was a 3DS game from looking at it. I've seen F2P mobile games better looking than this.
